Chapter XIII- The help from the kitten
Wolf sat in the chair in his home. Taking a nap.
It was the day after of he fighting the gangsters. And he was still very tired. On his desk sat a bottle of ink, a fountain pen, and a computer. And a piece of paper. Scattered on the table irregularly.
He woke up and looked at his surroundings. But felt only it was damp and humid.
"The rain. Always in fall..." He thought to himself.
When he stood up he decided to go down to have a quick meal, and he would start working again. The doorbell rang.
Wolf went to the door, opened it, then a pink figure appeared in front of her.
"You said that I can come to your place and tell you about something that I know that can help with your investigation, don't you?" Said she.
"Uh, Katt. What's with the little clothes?" Said Wolf. Looking at her, from head to toe.
Katt did not wear much. Despite today's cold weather. She just wore a blue tank top, a skirt, with a red jacket. She did not do any makeup as usual. But she still failed to not shrug her shoulders for she felt cold and she cannot hide it.
Wolf giggled. "You actually think that wearing fewer clothes can make me have a good impression on your first arrival?"
"Or else what? Wearing like a big fat panda like those in Chengdu?"
Wolf did not know that she was so moody that day. So he reassured her: "There, there. It's my fault. Don't get..."
Katt sneezed.
"You must have a cold. I'll give you my coat." Said Wolf. Taking off his and handed it to her.
Katt, with her instincts, did not take the coat. But when she felt the care that Wolf gave her, she wore it on. Hesitantly. With a skeptical face.
"Did you have dinner yet?"
"No. I did not have dinner when coming here."
"Well, I can make some for us two. But do not expect it to be good."
"What is it then?" Asked her.
"I can make a meat patty with salted egg. A Guangdong dish."
"I'll take it." Said she, a bit dim.
"The towels are in my closet of you want to take a bath. Unless you do not mind that some of my gray fur is on it."
Katt already went inside and there was a sound of a door opening. Then closed.
Wolf then opened the fridge and took a glimpse inside.
He has barely anything. For his 24/7 routine has made him have a habit of eating outside than cooking himself. But there is something that he just needed.
Wolf felt his unskillful hands not suitable for making these things. But he promised her. So he took out a dish, and molded the minced pork into a dish-like shape.
He took an egg out, but he forgot how to prepare it into a salted egg. The memories he had which faded into the unknown sea of his conscience.
"Forget it." Said he. When he was younger he could have kept on trying. But now he just did not have the strength to do it. He is just too tired these days. As he put the egg back to the fridge.
A continuous noise of water hitting the floor was produced. Then outcome Katt's complaining.
"How good is the insulation of your fur? Did you live in the Antarctica?"
"Turn the knob to the left. Unlike any new ones that have two separate knobs. I just got used to the old shower."
"So it is..." said she, in the shower.
After a quarter of an hour, Wolf turned off the fire, then took the dish out. That's when Katt is out also.
"I apologize for my unskillful hands..." said Wolf, when Katt is eating Wolf's dish.
"It's fine. Still."
After she finished, they went to the table in the living room. Behind the chair is a portrait of the former Starwolf team. Where Wolf, and the rest three were crossing their hands, as a flying massive battleship was behind them. They looked prestigious.
"So what you've got to help me?"
"I have this...mobile device." As she tried to find it in the bag that she had brought. "It won't turn on. Even I went to buy the same battery that fits the model." As she took it out after she found it and gave it to Wolf.
Wolf then knew that something's on. "Does it include any hearts?"
"No, it did not." Said she. Only a phone that I do not know how to turn on.
"Well, thank you for your help, Katt. I will continue this investigation as soon as possi..."
"I want to be your partner."
"What? Partners?" Asked Wolf. "You can not help with many things. It's too dangerous!"
"Then I cannot just stay there and do anything when the one who killed my lover roams freely out there!"
Wolf thought of it for a minute. His eyes filled with thought. He then stood up, and told Katt: "You really do not have the ability to do that. You are not trained. You do not have the marksmanship I have. What will you do if there is a person holding a gun against you? You can't react like I do. And the skill of confrontation? You sure that you can handle these situations?"
Katt said nothing. But also stood up. Her eyes are with determination and pride, shining, like a ray of hope glistering underneath. But at the same time, filled with tears that as if they were going to fall down on her face.
"I'm only a person who wanted to save her lover. And to avenge him. You still think that you understand what I feel of this situation? I will give my energy, even my life to avenge him. But I need your help. So, are we partners?"
She showed her hand, waiting for Wolf to hold it and to promise her.
"We're partners." Katt had succeeding in telling him to let her be his partner. Plus Wolf knew she had the ability to do so. Her true emotions touched him.
The sound of the raindrops hitting the glass vanished suddenly. For a while. But sunlight still cannot break through the thick, dark clouds. Yet there is a chance that there can be a silver line can get through.
Later, they went on to a place. A place that requires the two's cooperation.
