INT: THE NURSERY AT PENNY AND CHARLES' HOUSE - Penny and Charles are fast asleep in the two chairs in the corner. The room is a mess. Toys, clothes, food, everywhere. The twins are in their play gym, wide awake. The front door opens and you hear footsteps race up the stairs. Miranda bursts through the door.
MIRANDA: Did you miss me?
Penny and Charles wake and both scream, starting a scream loop.
MIRANDA: STOP! Its only me!
PENNY: You're enough to make a ghost jump! Ha ha! Such fun!
MIRANDA: RUDE!
Miranda runs over to the twins! She picks up Billy and then Grace.
MIRANDA: Hello you two! Mummy has missed you! Has Nanna and Gramps been spoiling you?
She starts kissing them. Gary walks in.
GARY: Where are they?
Miranda passes Billy to him.
GARY: There's my little soldier!
He walks towards Charles who has dropped back off to sleep. Gary taps him on the shoulder. He jumps again.
GARY: Sorry dad, how have they been?
CHARLES: Little angels!
GARY: You can tell me the truth?
CHARLES: How do you cope with two? Its so stressful, you feed one then the other is hungry. You change them then they both do a poo! Its never ending!
PENNY: Hats off to you both!
Gary and Miranda smile to each other.
MIRANDA: So you won't be offering to look after them again too soon?
PENNY: I can cope with an afternoon here and there but a whole weekend, um, not again for a long time!
CHARLES: Don't get us wrong, we love having them here but we're too old for all of this! Harold down the golf club said that the one perk of being a grandparent is that you can give them back! I agree!
MIRANDA: Well Gracie, I think it might be time to go home! Lets leeave Nanna and Gramps in piece!
Gracie coos, Penny and Charles stand and each kiss the children.
CHARLES: Goodbye you two!
Penny kisses Miranda. Gary gives Billy back to Miranda then gathers all of the things together. They make their way to the car. Gary puts everything in the boot then straps William in. Miranda straps Grace in.
GARY: It will be nice to get home! To be able to sleep in our own beds.
MIRANDA: I second that!
The car pulls off.
INT: MIRANDA AND GARY'S BEDROOM. Miranda and Gary are led on the bed with Billy and Grace led in between them.
GARY: Who would have thought ay?
MIRANDA: Thought what?
GARY: That we'd be here with these two beautiful children.
MIRANDA: I never imagined our lives would pan out like this but now I wouldn't have it any other way!
Gary leans over and kisses her.
GARY: What shall we do today? Stevie's at the shop. Nick's at the restaurant. We have a whole day to do whatever we want!
MIRANDA: Can we just relax around the house?
GARY: Of course. Shall I make us some breakfast?
MIRANDA: I fancy a bit of your special French toast!
GARY: French toast coming up!
Gary gets up out of the bed and exits. Miranda snuggles down with Billy and Grace. Gary shortly returns with breakfast. They tuck in.
GARY: I think we need to get these two christened! What do you think?
MIRANDA: I think that's a wonderful idea. Maybe that's what we can do today? Plan their christening?
Gary gathers the plates and takes them out to the kitchen. He returns with a pad and pen.
GARY: So where do we start?
MIRANDA: The godparents.
GARY: Well, Stevie and Andrew are a must.
MIRANDA: And then there's Tilly and Charlie!
GARY: What about Chris and Alison?
MIRANDA: Oh my there are so many people to choose from!
GARY: That's a good thing though, it means these children have many people that care about them, that love them as much as we do.
Gary takes Miranda's hand.
MIRANDA: They do don't they!
GARY: All those worries we had when you were pregnant seemed to have just disappeared!
MIRANDA: Things have never been better!
INT: IN THE SHOP - Stevie and Andrew are sat behind the counter. Stevie jumps up as Miranda walks in holding Grace.
STEVIE: Good morning! I thought today was your day off, what are you doing here?
MIRANDA: I have a question to ask you both!
Andrew stands up and joins Stevie.
MIRANDA: Will you be Grace's godparents?
Stevie runs up to Miranda.
STEVIE: Of course I will! I mean we will!
ANDREW: We'd be honoured!
STEVIE: I'm going to be the best god mother anyone has ever had!
INT: AT THE RESTAURANT - Gary is sat at a table with Chris and Alison. Gary is holding William.
GARY: So, guys, Miranda and I were wondering whether you two would like to be William's godparents?
ALISON: Oh my, Gary, we'd be honoured!
Chris shakes Gary's hand.
INT: MIRANDA AND GARY'S STUDY - Miranda and Gary are sat at the computer. Suddenly Tilly and Charlie come up on the computer screen.
TILLY: Queen Kong!
MIRANDA: Tilly!
CHARLIE: What'o pals?
MIRANDA: We'll get straight to the point! Tilly we were wondering if you would be William's godmother?
GARY: And Charlie, if you would be Grace's godfather?
Suddenly you hear screaming.
GARY: We take that as a yes?
TILLY: Of course!
CHARLIE: When's the big day?
MIRANDA: We're still sorting everything out but will be around a months time.
TILLY: This is all thrillybobs!
MIRANDA: Isn't it just!
CHARLIE: Well the night is calling us. We shall see you all very soon!
MIRANDA: Goodnight!
Gary closes the laptop screen.
GARY: So we have Chris, Alison and Tilly for William's Godparents and Stevie, Andrew and Charlie for Grace's godparents. Do you think we have enough?
Miranda and Gary start laughing.
GARY: And come to think about it, we haven't left anyone for the next one!
MIRANDA: Next one?
Gary just winks at Miranda and drags her out of the room.
