INT: Miranda and Gary are sat in the study. Penny walks in.
PENNY: So are we ready?
Miranda and Gary put their hands on their heads.
PENNY: I took it on myself to start the brainstorming!
She reveals a mood board. It is covered in different shades of green and orange with crocodiles and giraffes.
PENNY: Tilly has given me a number for the guy who made their wedding cake. I have given him a brief description of what we're looking for.
MIRANDA: And what are we looking for? Please tell?
Penny just laughs, Miranda looks to Gary, he mouths the words "Get rid of her"
MIRANDA: Mum, its been lovely having you, but don't you think its time to get back to Dad, I'm sure he's missing you.
PENNY: Ha! Don't make me laugh! He has his golf buddies round. He didn't even notice when I left the house!
Penny starts to cry. Miranda looks to Gary who shrugs his shoulders.
MIRANDA: Do you want to stay here tonight?
Gary shoots Miranda a look as if to say "What the hell?" Miranda pushes him.
GARY: You're more than welcome! In fact, with you here Miranda and I can go to that party!
Gary winks at Miranda.
MIRANDA: Oh yes, would you mind?
PENNY: Of course not. Who's party?
Gary and Miranda answer at the same time but with different answers.
MIRANDA: Stevie's!
GARY: Chris'
Penny looks at them oddly.
MIRANDA: It's at Stevie's house for Chris!
Miranda and Gary jump up.
GARY: So if you're sure...
PENNY: Well...
MIRANDA: Thank you!
They run out of the room.
PENNY: So?
EXT: Miranda and Gary are in their car they have gone to a local viewpoint. They have a few different notepads.
MIRANDA: So we both agree with St James church?
GARY: Yep and you're happy to have to party at the restaurant?
MIRANDA: Well it seems the best option.
GARY: Happy with the 15th?
MIRANDA: I can't believe we had to do this?
GARY: Do what?
MIRANDA: Make up a party so we could get away from mum. I feel sorry for her Gary, she's only trying to be helpful.
GARY: Why don't we just give her a few tasks, that way we are still in control but she feels included.
MIRANDA: Good idea! She seemed to be set on the cake, what other tasks can we give her?
GARY: Maybe the games? Or the DJ?
MIRANDA: Oh no, we'll all be playing pin the dummy on the baby whilst bopping to a Cher tribute act.
GARY: Okay then, what about, asking her to say something at the christening?
MIRANDA: That's such a lovely thought, but come on this is mum we're talking about, she's sure to say something embarrassing!
GARY: Don't be silly, I think this is something she would enjoy. It would give her something to focus on, allowing us to get everything else sorted.
MIRANDA: You are clever sometimes aren't you!
GARY: Hey, what do you mean sometimes?
MIRANDA: Shall we tell her?
Gary winks and starts the engine.
INT: Penny is asleep on the spare bed with the twins next to her. Miranda walks in, and quickly stops Gary.
MIRANDA: (Whispering) Look!
The two creep in. Gary picks up the children, Miranda tucks Penny in.
MIRANDA: We'll tell her in the morning!
They exit the room and walk to the nursery.
GARY: Can you have Billy please? My arms going numb!
MIRANDA: Is Daddy to weak to hold both of his children?
GARY: Oh sod off! They're growing really fast!
MIRANDA: I know, the midwife has said she can't believe how quickly they're gaining weight. Billy has gained 5lbs in the last six weeks, Gracie a little less, she's gained 4lbs.
GARY: They definitely follow you on that front!
MIRANDA: Excuse me, that is what I call RUDE! (BEAT) Oh my god! I just sounded like mum!
Gary starts laughing.
MIRANDA: And what are you laughing at? You're turning in to your father, more and more every day!
GARY: Alright, alright! No need to be mean!
They tuck the children up.
MIRANDA: Where has the time gone? Can you believe they are three months old?
GARY: It feels as though we've always had them, I don't know what I would do without them now.
He takes Miranda's hand and leads her over to the nursing chairs. They sit staring out of the window at the sunset.
MIRANDA: How lovely is this? So quiet and peaceful!
The children start to cry.
GARY: While it lasted!
They get up and walk over to the children. Gary picks up Gracie, Miranda picks up Billy, they resume their positions on the nursing chairs, they have the twins lead on their chests and are holding each others hands.
GARY: Do you think we'll have anymore?
MIRANDA: Children?
GARY: Yeah, having two is lovely but I always saw myself having three or four.
MIRANDA: Three or four?
GARY: Yes, I loved having two brothers. The fun we had together, I'd love that for Billy and Grace!
MIRANDA: They have each other! I don't think I could go through with all that again.
GARY: Maybe something for the future!
MIRANDA: Let's just focus on these to beauties shall we? I think once the christening is finished we should plan a family holiday!
GARY: A holiday?
MIRANDA: I think we deserve a holiday! Don't you?
GARY: Where can we take two young children?
MIRANDA: Disneyland!
GARY: Just because you want to go there!
MIRANDA: Well, why wouldn't you? Its for adults as well as children you know!
GARY: Okay then, when all the planning and christening is done we shall plan our first ever family holiday!
MIRANDA: You have a deal!
GARY: They're asleep! Maybe we should join them?
They get up slowly and put the twins back into their cots and exits.
Scene Ends.
