Chapter XVIII- The cemetery.
A car stopped by the cemetery car park. The doors are opened. And the two came out.
"Well, why are we finding a girl who died many years ago? This doesn't make any sense! How could the kill..."
"I know it doesn't. But why would a name appear in the list of both Helen Lane's clients and friends? To me, it should be a person using her as a fake identity. Then going to attempt the murders with another fake identity to do the second barrier!"
"Then what do you know about Jennifer Morrigan? Why did the killer use the name who was gone almost twenty years ago?"
Wolf still remembered how Katt was filled with enthusiasm with her prestigious personality. She scanned every piece of paperwork from Wolf seriously. Looking and marking every detail that even a professional Private Investigator cannot discover. Of course, after her rant on the shower again, plus Wolf buying her lunch when she bathed after making the discoveries. She described the meal as:"A proper lunch." The lunch consists of traditional Conerian delicacies. Which she really appreciated.
"She never missed a degree from her mind." Thought Wolf, seeing her storm away. "We are now in the sacrebleu cemetery at the sacrebleu weather! She does have her proper way of doing things, eh?"
She walked at a fast pace with the quick sound of her footstep that went "clock, clock, clock". And Wolf only slowly, trying to hide his annoyed and unenthusiastic feelings but in the mean time cannot resist hiding it. Resulting in an irregular footstep pattern.
Still, Katt quickly found the person who is in charge of the cemetery. The name's John.
"I'm looking for a grave with the name of Jennifer Morrigan."
"The younger people's grave is down on the opposite side. Go check yourself."
The cemetery was nothing but an ordinary cemetery. There are gray, lifeless stones lying in the area. With nothing but names carved on the stone. Some have a merry life, who lived for a long time. But some lived just for a couple of years. The cemetery is an outdoor one. So wild grass grew irregularly at the side of the graves. Not to mention a couple of pansies here and there at the side.
Katt ran along the role of the younger people's graves. When she saw an old lady, who was clearing the grass at the sides of the graves.
"Excuse me, but do you know where is the grave of Jennifer Morrigan?"
"Right over there, at the right side."
That was when Wolf also saw that she found the grave, so he hurried along.
He then inspected the grave.
"Look, paper hearts."
"See? I told you, you stupid gray piece of fur!"
"That's not nice of you." Wolf finally expressed his dislike of Katt's 'names' of him.
However, not listening to Wolf, Katt pointed the flowers.
"Flowers. And they are still fresh."
Wolf thought: that must be the killer. It is.
A voice was heard.
"This is no ordinary grave."
"How?"
"I had worked for this cemetery for almost five decades. But this one is special. She died in rainwater. Do you want to see her face?" The technology of processing food in airless environments has been applied to dead bodies. Keeping them from natural decay.
"Take a look." Said Katt.
"Ok. But we will not find anything. At least to me."
When the man dug down, Wolf went a bit down when they decided to open the grave. His eyes are filled with sadness, shimmering light of water when almost shutting them in. But revealing a small, narrow curve.
He hung his head down. Knowing that Katt will never think or understand. And she won't bother anyway.
"I kind of missed Falco."
Wolf was pulled out from of his sadness. Turning into a furious behavior.
"What? That feathery son-of-an-general-pepper?!"
"Don't you call him like that!" Yelled Katt."He's a charming person!"
"Charming. Hmph. More like devils chanting." Thought Wolf. Wolf was always skeptical about Falco. Since he is the only one capable of fighting him in an Arwing apart from Fox. And he fights even better.
"Well, I have no interest in your personal affairs." Said the man, who finished digging the grave. Exposing the capsule. "This is who you wanted to see." As he pushed a few buttons, and it let air in. After a minute, it opened automatically.
Wolf saw it. He did not cry of frown. He just needed a bit of alone time suddenly. The time of solitude which everyone needed.
When Katt raised her head, he grabbed Wolf away.
"What is it?"
The man then thought the two have left. So he closed the capsule, pressed the button to make it vacuum again and dug back the soil on the capsule.
That was when Helen Lane's father showed up.
"That's the girl's father."
"How did you know?"
"Instinct."
"Well, I don't think..."
"Sh!"
The man then put the flowers beside the grave. Seeing that it was dug, he asked the man who had come here.
"Oh, Just a young couple. Nothing more."
"Guess he might be the killer instead of his daughter."
The two then hurried back to their car. Driving away. But it was Wolf who wanted some private time. There was something on Jennifer's face. Who is the same of his kind. But charming. It wanted to talk to Wolf. The endless stories that were told on her face, and gave much harmony to Wolf's memory.
