Duality
Chapter Six
-Separation-
Kai lounged on a couch, staring up at the stalagmites of his prison chamber that had once been his home, his refuge. He glared at the rocks, his grey eyes turning an angry silver, that was until he heard a dark, but devious laughter echo around the cave. The white haired demon sat up, looking to the massive mirror in his room. He stood, his form tall and lanky. He was dressed in black and nothing more as he walked over to the mirror, though instead of seeing himself, he saw a young blonde woman with eyes shining with golden mischief. "Hello Kai." She giggled, lifting her sleeved arm and covering her mouth as she tried not to laugh.
"Talia." He smirked.
She was a gorgeous creature, her hair almost the color of sunlight and falling just below her rear. Her dress was long and flowing, looking similar to a kimono with a thick obi tied around her waist. "It seems you have been distracted. For the spell on our prisons is weakening…that filthy witch…she is here in my realm…with a human. She mated with him in an intimate way."
Kai's smirk darkened. "So I heard. She covered the mirror so that I couldn't watch." He told her. "But I was still listening."
Her smile grew. "The time is coming. I can sense it. I looked into the future and I know our fate rests in the hands of the dark haired ones. I believe they descend from the gate keeper…"
"Yes…his jealousy of the human king grows each day. Something is going to happen soon…something that will change the way things are run." The white haired demon rubbed his chin.
"Precisely," she laced her fingers together. "The witch is too distracted by her own thoughts to give us even a glimpse. As soon as she leaves my realm, I will begin my attempts of escape. Until then, continue your manipulation of the human so you can come free me yourself."
He placed his hand against the glass of the mirror. "And when we're finally reunited…we can once again begin our task of creating a new, better world. All will be right again."
She lifted her hand as well and placed it against his, though the glass still remained between them. "We will be together again." She assured. "Until then, the sun will continue to chase the moon." She smiled, and then her image faded.
"Until then." He repeated softly, letting his hand fall before he moved back over to his couch. A smirk came to his features and anticipation welled up inside him then. It seemed the witch queen had finally returned home from her escapades.
The throne room went silent when Sakura landed at the end, and the demons watched as their queen walked with purpose towards her throne. She had a serious look on her face, and despite the fact that she was wearing the same dress from the day before, she sat straight down in her throne instead of going back to her chambers. Looking about the room and seeing everyone's gaze on her, she hissed. "Don't you all have things to be doing?" she snapped, making them all rush to go and do something, just so that they were away from the irritable pink haired woman.
She heard a fit of giggles burst beside her. "Oh my, oh my. How was it my dark mistress?" Ino demanded, sitting on the arm of the throne.
Sakura sighed, continuing to stare forward. "It was…the best experience of my life." she said softly, before looking down at her lap. "And not just the sex. He was…fantastic."
"It sounds like you've fallen for him my lady." Tenten chuckled. "Just like I fell for his handsome knight."
"That is not what this is." Sakura said strongly. "I hold a fondness for him, and nothing more. Now that he's out of my system, I can concentrate on more important things."
"Are you sure about that?" Ino wondered. "He made you smile more times than I can remember."
"I simply find him amusing is all." The pink haired demoness said with a wave of her hand. "Now, the humans have these things called silverware, in which you can eat meat without getting all dirty. They also cook their meats. These are things I would like to begin implementing, for I find that cooked meat is abundantly more flavorful than raw."
Ino gasped. "Cooked meat?"
Sakura nodded. "Yes. It's delicious. They even put seasonings on it to enhance the flavor."
"My mouth is watering just thinking about it." Tenten said.
"I want to begin the practice of cooking meat and using silverware as soon as possible." The pink haired woman said, waving her hand and having a few parchments appear before her. "Here are the measurements and dimensions for the utensils. Take them to the blacksmiths and have them forged from silver and other various metals they can find."
Tenten nodded and took the papers. "Yes Your Majesty." She said, walking off with the papers.
Ino watched her friend go off before focusing back on her queen. "When are you going to realize that you're infatuated with a human?"
"When our realm freezes over." She replied stubbornly, looking at the blonde.
The blonde shivered, looking around in alarm. "Oh M-mistress…it's getting so cold in here!" she cried out, rubbing her arms in attempts to get 'warm'.
Sakura's emerald gaze narrowed dangerously. "I'm not in the mood for your shenanigans Ino. We won't discuss this any longer."
"Alright, alright." she waved off, deciding to leave as well. "But everyone deserves a prince charming." She called over her shoulder, before disappearing out the door.
Sakura sighed once she was alone and rose as her throne began to move out of the way. She walked down the tunnel to her chambers, shedding her clothes and getting into the bath. When she had left this morning, Gaara had been sound asleep. He looked so peaceful, she almost didn't want to sneak out of his chambers. But in order to ensure that he stayed asleep, she'd cast a spell over him with what little strength she retained in the human realm. And with one last kiss to her recent lover's lips, she left.
It had hurt more than she'd anticipated to leave him like that though. Without saying goodbye, or even getting one last hour of time with him. But it had to be done. If she'd stayed until he'd woken up, she knew it would have been that much harder to leave, and she might not have left at all. It was a shame though, because she's felt more alive in her day spent with him than she had in centuries. Ino and Tenten were right, he did make her smile, and she was infatuated with him. But she would get over it, as she got over all other attachments she'd formed over the years. It just might take longer than normal.
Letting out a sigh, she sunk beneath the water, deciding now to focus of ridding her body of his scent, the first of many steps to forget the handsome redheaded king.
Gaara sat on his throne, a frown etched on his face as he glared off. He couldn't believe she had actually left him. He was so mad, but the part that bothered him most was how upset he was. He hadn't realized he'd grown fond of the pink haired demon. Sure, she was beautiful, and a queen, but what he couldn't stop thinking about was how clever she was, and how strong she appeared before her subjects. He'd enjoyed most of his run-ins with her. Their banter was exciting, and she challenged him.
He growled out. She was exactly what he described his perfect princess to be. "Ugh!" he yelled, standing abruptly and storming out just in time to run into Naruto and Hinata.
"Y-Your Highness!" Hinata exclaimed in surprise.
"Gaara, we were just coming to see you." Naruto said, before blinking. "Where are you going?" he asked, before gasping, a smile coming to his face. "Are you going to bring back Queen Sakura? And get married?!"
"Why would I marry a foolish harlot who leaves me in the middle of the night!" Gaara nearly yelled, cursing when he couldn't hold back his fury.
Hinata shrunk behind the blonde slightly. "W-well…it seemed to us that the two of you got along well." She said softly.
"Yeah, you were a lot more pleasant to be around when she was visiting. Everyone noticed." Naruto added.
"She was only with me for lunch, how could anyone have possibly noticed a change in my demeanor?" he demanded, glaring at Naruto.
He laughed and rubbed beneath his nose. "Well…we were all kinda spying on the two of you." he admitted. "And even after that your mood seemed improved."
Gaara just stared at him. "Sure it did." he huffed, walking off, his dark aura only growing. He didn't want to be with anyone, but he couldn't remain here. Because every time he saw a mirror all he could think about was the pink haired beauty.
Kai let out a growl as he watched the human king through the mirrors in the castle. He wiped his hand across the glass, making the image of the human realm disappear. Why were humans so foolish? Wiping his hand across the mirror once more, he was then given the view of another chamber, one that had numerous depictions of the sun and sky on it. His stormy gaze moved across the room, landing on the only occupant, who was brushing out her long golden locks. "Talia." He called out, getting the blonde's attention. "We have a problem."
She glanced back, seeing the white haired man and rising from her vanity. She walked over to image and smiled. "Kai how could we have a problem? The king and queen are already infatuated with one another. Their love is budding."
"Yes, but he refuses to acknowledge it, and I know Sakura isn't either. You remember how stubborn she is." The white haired man said, pacing across the expanse of the mirror. "If they do not acknowledge their feelings and seek one another out to continue their relationship, then the dark haired ones will never come to be."
"It's been one day Kai." Talia smirked. "You must be patient." She watched him, appearing amused. "I get it. You dreamed of her again."
"I can't help it." he growled. "Every dream it's the same. She comes to me, enchants me, and then I take her." he said. "And after centuries of not being able to bed a woman, those dreams look better and better each time, especially now that I know she will one day be real."
Talia smiled, pulling her chair towards the mirror. "Tell me it again, about your dream girl."
Kai sighed and rubbed his chin. "Oh where to begin." He said, getting a far off look in his eyes. "Her hair is black as midnight, contrasting greatly with her pale, ivory skin. Her eyes shine like sparkling gems the shade of jade, and a look of mischief lights her face. Her body…is glorious enough to be worshipped, and when I find her, worship it I shall. She embodies the Moon in every way." He smiled slightly. "I already know she's clever and smart, and yet innocent enough to still be sweet, just like you Talia." He looked back at her. "She's my perfect match."
The blonde seemed to glow. "I certainly hope so. You've been dreaming of her for nearly thirty years now. I wonder if she will be as amazing as your dreams predict."
"I know she will be." he said, his sour mood lifted slightly. "And once I have her, I will help you find your mate Talia. For you deserve one just as much as I do."
She simply laughed. "I don't mind staying focused on our goal."
Kai smirked. "Well, once our goal is met, we are sure to find your mate." He said.
Talia returned his smirk in kind. "I don't mind being surprised with mine. Don't worry." She assured him. "I will get work on making sure our dark ones come to be. After all, they will be the ones to free us."
"I'm not too concerned, just impatient." He replied. "But with our barriers weakening, I will be able to enter the king's dreams and manipulate him that way. Of the two, he will be easier to sway, and if he comes to Sakura, she will be more likely to give in to her feelings for him."
"And I shall drop in on the little tart and make her existence insufferable." She grinned, placing her hand on the mirror. "Soon we will be free Kai and burn these worlds to the ground."
He placed his hand against the mirror over hers. "And we will finally be able to be together once more. As it should be."
Talia nodded. "And we will never be apart again."
"Never." He agreed, before the blonde's image faded, and he went back to dreaming of his dark haired beauty. He couldn't wait for nightfall to arrive, because when it did, he was going to send the redheaded king one hell of a dream.
