The Plans Begin
"So you're staying to help me fight Kyoufu Oni?" Inuyasha asked the female demon.
"Yes I am." She sipped her tea awkwardly. It was difficult to pick up a tea cup with a claw. She could not fit into the cottage because she was far too big so Inuyasha brought out a picnic table for her to eat her meal on.
"First we must find your buddy to see if he will fight this battle with us."
"Brother will be most pleased." She said, holding her tea up to her large jaws again. Her teeth criss-crossed her mouth, some pointing up over her lip, and others down. Her eyes were a soft brown and on each of her eye lids a dark scale would shade her pupils from the sun, they looked very much like strange scaly eye lashes.
"Where do you think he would be?"
"I am not sure." She replied.
"Hmm" Inuyasha grunted while slurping up some noodles. "By the way, why exactly couldn't you two control yourselves while you were attached to Kyoufu Oni?"
"Naraku made sure that only one head would be in control, naturally it was going to be the one in the middle I suppose." As she crunched on a rice cake Inuyasha realised something.
"Why don't you have a name?"
"Hmm?"
"Kyoufu Oni has a name, but you don't. Were either of you ever given another name other than 'Kyoufu Oni.'"
She shook her head.
"Maybe I should give you one. I prefer to not call you 'demon' all the time."
She looked at him surprised, almost as if she wasn't expecting to be called anything else.
He thought while sipping from his orange juice carton that Kagome had brought from her home in the future.
"How about Kaya? It's a nice name."
"Kaya..." She paused to think for a moment, "Yes I like this name you speak of... Kaya sounds good." She stared at her next rice cake, a content grin on her face.
They walked into the nearest village and asked the villagers if they had seen a dragon demon walk through there. Many of them were alarmed that Inuyasha had one walking with him that day, and most of them hadn't seen such a demon lately.
Kaya and Inuyasha almost gave up until an old man pushing a wheel barrow said, "Hey Inuyasha, I like your new demon friend, I saw one just like her the other day. It had goat horns and was a kind of a maroon colour."
"That's it!" Inuyasha exclaimed. "Do you know where he went?"
"Sure, he went that way." The old man pointed to the South. "I think he was headed for the next village over."
"Thank you!" They both raced over to the next village, they had no time to lose. Kaya and Inuyasha wanted to get her brother to join them as soon as possible so they could return and protect the cottage.
Asking around they finally found his location. He had gone to a strange building filled with bamboo books.
Walking into the building they were confronted by a 40+ year old man.
"Have you seen a demon come in here?" Inuyasha confronted him.
"You're not here to hurt him are you?" He said frowning at Inuyasha.
Kaya stepped into the room and the man looked up smiling. "Another one! Excellent!"
"I am here looking for my brother, where is he?" Kaya spoke gently looking down at the man.
"He is over here!" He escorted them to a room where bamboo books were scattered on a table, and surely enough the Maroon coloured demon was sitting there, glaring at the characters.
"I am trying to teach him how to read. Fascinating these creatures!"
"Brother." Kaya began and he looked up, his eyes smiling at her.
He walked over to her and half way he noticed Inuyasha, suddenly he froze and growled barring his huge teeth.
"It is ok brother, he is our friend now." He looked up at his sister, but was still on his guard. "Why won't you say anything brother?"
"You see," the man interrupted, "he cannot speak. All I can get out of him are grunts and growls. He speaks using pictures, and that is also how I teach him how to read."
The Maroon demon also had soft brown eyes like Kaya, he had huge goat horns, long scruffy green hair going down his spine and light green scales down his neck and stomach. His wings were blue and he also had four smaller horns down his jaw on both sides, as well as a horn sticking up between his nostrils.
"We came to ask him something, do you mind leaving us alone with him?" Inuyasha asked.
"Oh, sure!" The man smiled and walked out of the room.
Kaya proceeded to explain things to her brother.
He frowned and shook his head, he lifted his left claw and pointed to the ground nodding, and then he pointed out the door and shook his head again.
"I think he is saying that he wants to stay." Inuyasha scoffed. "Coward."
The demon snorted at Inuyasha and shook his head. He picked up a picture of two men fighting, pointed to it, then himself and shook his head.
"Oh, so you just don't want to fight." Inuyasha looked at him frowning.
Kayas brother pointed at Inuyasha and nodded.
"Well that's fine then, we'll just fight him off ourselves." He paused and added, "Coward!"
The demon roared at Inuyasha again, he clearly didn't like being called a coward.
"Brother!" Kaya interrupted. "Are you sure that you don't want to help us."
He nodded firmly; he picked up a drawing of a man meditating, and pointed to it.
"I think he wants peace." The man walked in again. "I heard my friend roar, what are you doing to him?"
"Heh." Inuyasha scoffed, "Nothing! He just doesn't like me calling him a coward." He smirked at the demon who glared viciously at him.
"Common we better go Inuyasha. Leave my brother be."
"Fine."
"If you change your mind brother, we will be in the village to the north. Come and find us there. Good bye."
They walked out the door and ran as fast as they could to reach the cottage again.
Inuyasha thought for a moment and an idea came to him as they were running.
"I know someone else we could try, but it might be a long shot. He's an old friend but he may not want to get involved."
"We should try anyway." Kaya replied simply.
"Okay then. We're headed towards the mountains!"
