Augustines - Walkabout
Andrew Belle - Make it without you
- Flash back-
"What is your name little one?" Bella asked as the three of them walked the halls in search of the little girl's parents.
"Mina...Mina Spencer," she answered through sniffles.
"Mina...Spencer," mused Ciel. He has heard of the name somewhere, but can't remember where.
He looked down to little Mina.
"Mina, is your father by any chance John Spencer?"
She looked up to Ciel with wide smile. "You know my Daddy?!" She asked jumping up and down.
He looked back to the corridor, "If we are talking about the same person, then probably yes."
Before Bella could even ask how Ciel knows of Mina's father, a loud frantic call of her name came from around the corner.
"Mina!" A frantic female voice yelled followed by a male voice. "Mina sweetie where are you?!"
"Daddy! Mommy!" Mina shouted and dashed towards the voices, leaving Bella and Ciel speechless.
"Oh where have you been Mina, we were looking everywhere for you!"
As both of the couples rounded the corner they saw little Mina in a loving embrace with her mother and what they guess is the father standing behind, relief evident on his features. Both felt a pang of longing and sadness as they remember their own mother and father. Both are gone from their lives and will never come back. Both will never feel the warmth of their embrace or their parental presence.
"Sorry mommy, I got lost," Mina mumbled from her mother's embrace.
"Next time don't wonder off on your own again, ok? Promise?" She chastised Mina.
Mina nodded her head in agreement, "I promise mommy"
"And who are these people?" Asked the male with bright blue eyes and brown hair, causing the mother to turn her attention to Bella and Ciel.
"Oh they are Ciel and Bella. They found me in the garden and they offered to help to look for you," informed Mina, skipping merrily back to Bella.
"I can't thank you both enough." He held out his hand. "I'm John Spencer and this is Lucy, my wife."
"Pleasure, Mr. Spencer." Answered Ciel, taking his hand and shaking it."I'm Ciel Phantomhive and this is Isabella Swan." Gesturing to a blushing Bella beside him. Still to that day Bella is easily embarrassed.
"Phan-Phantomhive...you can't possibly mean..." He trailed off looking at Mina's stuffed bunny and back to Ciel in uncertainty.
Ciel smiled, but it wasn't his natural one, but one of business only. "I must say, you have done an excellent job expanding the hospital and improving the services."
"Well we wouldn't be able to do those things If it weren't for your help, without your funding we couldn't have helped those who are less fortunate." He grasped Ciel's hand in gratitude. "I thank you again."
Ciel being not known to show emotions, cleared his throat and made an excuse.
"Well since little Mina here found her parents it seems it is time for us to leave." Giving Bella the look 'were leaving now'.
"Oh yes, we must go. Good night Mina, Mr and Mrs Spencer. It was nice meeting you," stammered Bella who understood Ciel's expression a second later.
"Oh before you both go, how about the two of you join us tomorrow night? We have a reservation for the play tomorrow evening and we have extra room. We would love for you to join us, as a thank you for bringing us Mina back."
"Uhmn.. we cou-" stuttered Bella.
Ciel interrupted, "We would be delighted, but unfortunately we already have a booth in our names, perhaps dinner after?"
The parents agreed and said their good bye.
"Good night Bella, Ciel!" Yelled Mina, waving her hands in the air.
Bella couldn't help but chuckle at the little girls childish antics while Ciel fought a smile.
They walked towards their apartment in silence before Bella spoke.
"You...do charity?" She said disbelievingly.
He shrug. "Good for the company..."
"I see..."
-Flash back end-
It turned out Mina's father is the head of one the hospitals that Ciel helped with their charity and expansion. He also said that not many knew of his appearance because someone else had been taking care of the company in his place, a relative (Sebastian in disguise). They had made up a story of him taking over the company when he is 'at the right age'. Though they preferred running the company in the shadows away from the media's eyes. Without any proof of them not aging, it will be easier for them to move and blend with the rest of the mortals. They only show their appearance on important occasions and very important meetings only.
Also Mr. Spencer is quite a collector of limited editions toys, he had managed to get himself a 'Bitter Rabbit' for his collection five years ago when five of those stuffed toys were put on sale for charity. Ciel saw his name from the winners list of the stuffed rabbits.
-Next evening-
A soft knock on the door brought her out of her memories of happier days. "Enter!"
Looking straight at the giant mirror in front of her, Bella never thought she would see the day she would be wearing an evening gown of her own accord. It's a floor length, one shoulder, black evening gown with a small slit on the side. It was simple yet elegant. The dress was partnered with simple black dolly shoes - shoe in this case because of her leg cast. True she always declined the clothes Alice gives her, well more like demand for her to wear or because 'she saw me liking it', but she never really said anything about hating wearing dresses. On the contrary she likes to wear dresses from time to time, whether it may be on occasions such as weddings or simply for a day out like a sundress. It's just she loathes anything Alice gave her, they were always flashy like they just came from the runway. She never considered Bella's opinions at all. Thinking back she knew she should have said no to things she didn't want, but the Cullen's -Edward were the first one who paid attention to her and she didn't want to disappoint them and also she was a foolish teenager whose judgement was clouded with over protectiveness - possessiveness, promises and first love.
She shook her head. Those were all in the past, the push over Bella is gone, dead. She died the day her parents and loved ones died. Better yet, she died when he left her in the woods. Never again will she be selfless, for once she does things for herself and no one else.
Sebastian came in and started to fix her hair into a simple up do, twisting and pinning stands of hair into swirling patterns. He then added light makeup to hide some of the healing bruising and finish the overall look. When finished, she hardly recognized the girl - no woman in front of her.
"You look lovely my lady."
Bella felt her blood rush to her cheeks at the complement, looking at her reflection she was glad most of the bruises and cuts were healed and almost faded.
"Thank you Sebastian. I thank the dress and you." She said looking at the butler through the mirror's reflection.
He placed a gloved hand on her shoulder and shaking his head in disagreement. "You're wrong my lady, the items doesn't make the person beautiful, they merely enhance the beauty the person already posses." And cue the blush, making Sebastian chuckle.
Bella sent him a glare. Looking at the clock on the wall it is nearly time to leave. It is the night where they would be watching Macbeth in the onboard theatre with the young master. To say she was shocked would be an understatement. She had spend a good half an hour on constant debate whether to accept Ciel's invitation or not. In the end she surrendered. I am doing it for myself not for anyone else, she told herself. When she used to be with Edward she was always given things she doesn't want or don't need at all. It was a frustrating thing to deny them and their gifts, she had tried but in the end she would not win because they would either replace the old item without her knowing or dazzle her into submission. They always think they know what is best for her. That and also they guilt her into accepting whatever they desire. She was afraid to lose them so she gave in to their wishes easily.
Well news flash, I am my own self and I know how to take care of myself, I have been doing it since I was little and living with Renee!
She inhaled and exhaled. Now isn't the time to sulk and think about the past.
Part of her accepting the invitation is because it is a Christmas present from both of them. Looking at the nightstand stacked with books she remembered her presents she had received from them over the years. Thanks to their understanding and mainly the contract they had never given her extravagant presents, at all. For Christmas and Birthdays they have either given her books that she enjoyed reading or created a feast of her favourite cuisine (made by yours truly, Sebastian demon butler extraordinaire ).

Ciel fixed his suit for the third time that night.
Calm down! It is just you and Bella watching a play and having dinner with the Spencer's after! That's all!
He keep telling himself, but unfortunately there is a small voice in his head and a certain butler reminding him it would be the first time for the both of them to go out together, alone. Like a date.
Even when he was a human he never had gone out with a girl alone, there was always a chaperone in the shadows. So this night may be as well his first date, ever.
"Master, Lady Isabella is ready," came Sebastian's whisper from the other room.
Looking at the mirror one more time and fixing his tie he left the room towards Bella's. He stood outside the door for a few minutes before taking a breath for courage and knocked on the door.
When Sebastian opened the door his breath hitched and he was frozen in place, in front of him is a goddess named Isabella Swan. It seemed everything around them is non-existent and its only him and the goddess in front of him, nothing else. Her hair is done in twists and twirls leaving a few strands framing her heart shaped face, light make up coloured her eyelids making her chocolate doe eyes sparkle and tinted lip balm made her lips more desirable than ever. It took all his power to restrain himself to not close the distance between them and kiss her senseless there and then. The black dress she wore is simple yet elegant, accentuating her curves contrasting well with her creamy soft skin. She looked mature, she's no 19 year old. He audibly swallowed. What would he give to feel her silky smooth skin underneath his fingers, memorise each scar, curve, freckle on her body.
She will be the death of me...
Bella too was frozen in place and she couldn't help but admire the handsome specimen of a man in front of her. She has seen Ciel in a suit before, but never seen him dressed in a black suit with a white shirt underneath and a bow tie. His dark navy hair tousled to perfection, striking blue eyes sparkling with emotions such as awe, surprise, wonder, adoration and much more to identify.
Sebastian watched in pure amusement as both of his masters rendered each other speechless. If he recalls correctly it is the first time both of them saw each other in formal wear. Especially Miss Swan in a long black evening dress. He gave them a good few minutes until he interrupted the clueless lovebirds with a cough.
"Beautiful... " Said Ciel in awe and his eyes widened at how loud he had said it.
Bella looked down and the familiar faint blush crept over her cheeks.
"Thank you, you don't look too bad yourself Mr. Phantomhive."
Ciel cleared his throat and chastised himself to get his bearings together.
"Thanks, uhmn...right. Shall we go Miss Swan." He said holding out his hand to her.
"What about my crutches?" She asked, looking at Sebastian.
"For tonight the young master will be your support, this is why I had taken off your cast in exchange for a leg brace. And based from the rate your injuries are healing you will be walking without crutches in no time." Sebastian found it quite interesting to see some of Bella's major injuries heal a little faster than normal humans would. He was quite tempted to look into it, but since it wasn't important right that moment he had just placed it into future reference.
"Oh.." Ciel walked towards her and looped her hands with his.
"Shall we?"
"Yes of course," she nodded. "Thank you again Sebastian."
"It's my pleasure my lady, have a pleasant evening," He said and bowed.
They walked along the corridor for a few minutes before Bella giggled, earning Ciels interest.
"What has got you amused Miss Swan?"
She hummed. "It just by how you and Sebastian act, I thought it was for show at first, but now... I am glad that chivalry isn't entirely dead after all."
"Why hasn't Edward acted like this before? "
She shook her head. "I would call it more over protectiveness than chivalry, he was afraid that I might injure myself or something. If you think about it he is just a boy who is overprotective of his new toy."
-x-
The night fell and most of the young ones went to bed and the adults come out and mingle. Talks and murmurs could be heard from the nearby gathering down below. It seemed that they have moved their evening party outside to the open starry night sky instead of being cooped inside the building.
Nothing beats the fresh air.
It was a clear night and the stars were out, shimmering like fireflies in the vast open sky. Not far on the horizon is a burst of colours from the Northern lights.
She walked towards a coffee table where a case lies. Opening it carefully she marvelled at the instrument encased inside. A violin, it was a Christmas present from Ciel.
Placing it beneath her chin, she took in its stained walnut body with wondering eyes. It is a beautiful instrument not just the appearance but also the melody it produces. She drew the bow across the strings, small wisps of rosin float lazily above the instrument while soft music pours forth from its hollowed body. Closing her eyes she is taken to her special place, where notes and melody comes together to give anyone a glimpse at the players emotion.
While playing her melody she looks back on the day she woke up. It was the day after Christmas and she awoke in a winter wonderland. Sebastian was the first one who greeted her, carrying a tray of food perfect for her sore throat. Looking at the state of her body it seemed she had suffered a fairly similar fate as she did with James only this time Victoria didn't get a bite out of her. Her body was filled with scratches, bruises and a cast on her leg. To say she was disappointed about the cast was an understatement, she whined like a little child about how mean Victoria was to break her leg thus putting her in another cast.
She also couldn't help but notice Ciel became more and more present wherever she goes. For example he sometimes offered to join her going to the park or simply join her for company in the library when she reads in front of the lit fireplace while he does some of his work on the oak desk nearby.
Bella found peace, safety, warmth, protection and comfort whenever he is around and somehow she feels alone, incomplete and longing when he isn't around.
Why am I feeling this way?
There was no denying it, but yes she did have a crush on him when they first met. He is handsome, more so than Edward who I used to think was a Greek god, comparing the two Edward is a boy and Ciel is a man. Everything about Ciel makes her want to learn more about him, to get close and touch him.
Then there is the past, Ciel's past to be exact. She was lost for words when he told her of his human past and how he became the demon he is now. He too like her lost everything in one night, but from all of those hardship comes retribution. She felt pure rage upon hearing all the things those vile nobles did to Ciel and his family, those weren't nobles at all in her dictionary, they are monsters. She was glad that those who did Ciel wrong paid the price, but there are some question swirling in her mind such as;
Why has he told me his history? Why now? What's the reason for it?
It's not that she isn't grateful he had shared his history with her. Quite frankly she is grateful that she gets a glimpse of who Ciel was. Learning the past brings her little close to him and she likes it.
Those emotions she feels for him whenever he is around or not, her reaction to his gestures ...or just him being there made her somehow complete. He made her want to live again, he gave her the freedom she wanted. And if she is being honest she had fallen in love with him from the very moment she laid eyes on him, it's just now she is realizing her feelings for him.
She missed a note.
No, no , no...it can't be!
Finishing her piece she hurriedly placing her violin into its case and pace the dark room.
I love him?!
She thought it was just a crush that would soon go away as soon as she is used to the idea of having him around. But love?!
NO!
After promises of revenge in front of her family and friend's graves she never thought of falling for another person, let alone a supernatural at all.
She went out onto the porch and slid down, her back supported by the railing. She looked up to the stars with tear filled eyes.
She was broken, a broken doll.
No one would want a broken, used doll. Besides she's just a human.
After the heartbreak she thought she could never stand to experience it all over again. Even though they said 'it takes time to heal wounds', it won't be in her case. She doesn't have time in the world. Her clock is ticking and running out, once it strikes twelve then it would be game over. Her soul would go to Ciel and she can finally join them on the other side. She can finally rest in peace.
Even if there is a small chance they could be together, it won't last. When the contract has been fulfilled then it's over. She won't have Ciel go through eternity with a broken heart. It's not fair on him. She can't hurt him.
I can't fall in love...
