The Tetsusaiga
"What do you mean it's time to pass on the Tetsusaiga, Mum? How do you know?" Kazuki demanded.
"It's been shaking a lot lately." She replied, showing Amaya and Kazuki.
They all looked inside Inuyashas memorial where it sat and indeed it was twitching and jumping slightly in its holder.
Kazuki paused for a few moments and then started getting really excited. "We all know it's going to be me who gets the Tetsusaiga!" He looked smugly towards Amaya.
"Ohhhh I see! It's all because you're the boy isn't it?" She said crossly.
"AND I am almost exactly like dad in personality and looks! Of course the Tetsusaiga is going to choose me because I am most like its original owner!"
Amaya hadn't thought about that and she had a sinking feeling as soon as Kazuki said this. She guessed she would find out tomorrow.
"Don't forget about Jirou!" Kagome said.
"What? That little eight year old pip squeek? No way!" Kazuki huffed.
At dinner that night Kagome told the rest of the house what was going on.
"Oh Boy, baby this is awesome!" Sen, said turning to Kazuki. "This is so exciting! Of course you're going to be the one to wield the Tetsusaiga!"
Kazuki blushed when his girlfriend said this and suddenly said modestly. "You think so?" Scratching the back of his head shyly.
Amaya and Kagome glared at him wondering when since did he act so modest when he was all boastful and full of pride before.
"This is really great!" Said Yuko, She was the second youngest child in Mirokus family and a tom boy. "But how do you know it won't be Amaya who will get the sword?"
Kazukis gaze shot towards Yuko. "Of course it's going to be me you pip squeek!"
"What about Jirou!" Mina protested. "He is also a child of Inuyashas!" Jirous face spread into a wide grin.
Hiku watched the debate and refused to get involved. He was much like Sangos little brother in looks and personality. He sat at the large dinner table sipping his tea curiously looking from person to person as they spoke.
"Even if the Tetsusaiga chooses Jirou." Kagome began, becoming tired of the arguing, "He's not using it until he is older!"
"But mum!" Jirou started to protest before Kagome gave him a menacing glare.
"I said NO! NOW BE QUIET EVERYONE AND EAT YOUR DINNER!"
Everyone froze, even Miroku and Sango felt intimidated by Kagomes raised temper. They hadn't seen it in so many years it took them by surprise.
It really hurt Kagome thinking about that old sword because it reminded her of everything that she and Inuyasha went through.
After dinner, when Kagome wasn't around, everyone continued their debate outside. Hiku stayed to the side quietly and listened to everyone's arguments just like at dinner. While the others all kept close to their own points of view.
"Like Kazuki said, he is the most like Inuyasha! He's bound to be the one to get the Tetsusaiga!" Sen said cheerfully, both of her arms wrapped around one of Kazukis.
"Well I think it's going to be Amaya!" Yuko protested. "She's the strongest out of everyone here!"
"NO SHE'S NOT!" Kazuki was getting angry now. He never liked being called the weaker of the two. "I'm WAY stronger than Amaya is! OUCH!" Amaya knocked him to the ground with one swing of her arm.
"Yes, I am!" She looked at Kazuki sternly as he picked himself up from the ground.
"WHAT YOU SAY?"
"You are wayyyyy weaker than I am!"
The two began to battle while Mina kept telling Sen, Hiku and Yuko how it was defiantly, without a doubt, going to be Jirou!
In the morning everyone was gathered when Kagome brought out the fidgeting sword and gave it to Kazuki who took it with a gleam in his eye. "Here we go!" He laughed looking at Amaya and quickly unsheathed it. "See look the Tetsusaiga was always meant to be mine!" Kazuki said with a smug look on his face.
"Try looking at the sword idiot!" Amaya said.
"What are you t-?" Kazuki began when he looked at the unsheathed Tetsusaiga for the first time and saw that it was blunt. "WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON? THIS CAN'T BE!"
He kept re-sheathing and un-sheathing the Tetsusaiga several times but still it remained as blunt as ever.
"OK! BEING STUBBORN ARE WE?" He said as he re-sheathed the sword once more. "THIS TIME SHOULD DO IT!"
"OH GIVE IT UP!" Amaya yelled at him as she yanked the Tetsusaiga from its sheath that was tied around Kazukis waist and suddenly the sword transformed.
Amaya stared at it for a few moments as if she didn't expect it to transform under her grip.
"I TOLD YOU GUYS IT WOULD BE AMAYA!" Yuko yelled victoriously. "She IS the STRONGEST after all!" Yuko had always admired Amaya like an older sister because of her spunk and strength. She would always be behind Amaya in every argument.
Mina and Jirou stood flabbergasted; their mouths hung open, and their eyes popping.
But nothing could compare to Kazukis response. He sat to the side sulking, his cheeks puffed up and staring at the ground fingering a rock. His aura was dark and depressed.
Amaya looked over to him after she had gotten over her own shock, "What? Can't be bothered arguing with me anymore?" She laughed.
He snapped his head around to glare at her but said nothing. His pride was too wounded to find anything to say in reply.
Everyone was gawking and praising Amaya accept Mina and Jirou because they were still frozen in shock, and Sen was trying to comfort her boyfriends wounded pride.
The first words Kazuki said after were faint mutterings about "baby sister" and "can't believe this."
When Tanaka came around Amaya told him that she had something to show him. In the split of an eye she unsheathed Tetsusaiga and flung it in front of her, stopping it just in front of Tanakas nose.
"Wait... IS THAT THE TETSUSAIGA!" He gasped.
"Yes, yes it is!" She rested it over her shoulder, just as her father had done in the past.
"WOW THIS IS AMAZING!" Tanaka exclaimed excitedly, he kept observing it from all angles. "But I always thought Tetsusaiga would choose Kazuki?" He said innocently.
Amaya glared at her best friend... "What?"
"You know... because he's the guy and so much like your father..." He was starting to get nervous.
"Well you know. Tetsusaiga picked me because I'm the strongest! And why would it care if I was a girl or boy?"
"So how did your brother take this?" Tanaka said avoiding the question.
"Oh..." She laughed. "He hasn't spoken to me yet! He was so boastful about how he'd get it because he's 'the strongest' and 'the guy' and I guess he's not over the Tetsusaiga choosing me instead." She shrugged with a proud grin on her face.
"That is so awesome! I can't believe it chose you!" He said astounded, "and not just because you're a girl by the way." He added hastily.
"Pfft, I'll forgive you this time. But don't ever underestimate me again because I'm a girl ok?"
"Alright." Tanaka said following Amaya to the Hill.
When they got home Kagome informed them that Rin, her daughter and Sesshomaru would be coming over the next day. Rin had sent a letter asking permission for this visit and apologising for never being able to see Kagome sooner. This excited Amaya because she really wanted to become more acquainted with her extended family.
