5th movement

HIS FIRST DAY WITH THE CELLO PLAYER

"Let's start."

(BLUE DANUBE)

The conductor swung his hand as the various instruments began to match each other's tone, creating a delightful and lively harmony with every fast and strong stroke of the four stringed instruments. A certain brunet also matches the sounds as he jumped, skipped and stopped with every pause of the piece coincidentally. Now the music reached the part that slowed down, he sneaked silently into every room that he passed by as he knew the classes were starting.

It was Sawada Tsunayoshi.

Tsuna was currently running late for his first class. Well, it's not really his fault that he wasn't that good with directions since he inherited that trait from his parents, particularly his father's blood as a Sawada. Because of this unlikable trait, he got lost several times as he went in and out of different buildings until he finally found the right room.

And now he was standing at the front door of his homeroom, unsure what to do as he heard the instructor begin his class. It couldn't be helped since he was late for almost 30 minutes.

'Maybe I'll skip for now.'

The brunet closed his eyes and sighed. He was about to leave when he felt someone bump into him again, resulting in the door open as the both of them fell on the ground. As if on cue, the musical piece ended.

All of their classmates were looking at them with different expressions. 'It's embarrassing! Too much for my first day.' Tsuna thought, looking at the different reactions of the class, including their scary looking instructor, who was eyeing both of them.

Wait.

He almost forgot about the person beside him, the person who was at fault for their embarrassing situation. He looked at the person's features to see a student, the same height as him, with a red hair and eyes. What shocked him was that the boy, with the same built as him, was carrying a big hard case on his back. 'He must be a Cello player.' he concluded.

"S-Sorry, I didn't see you a while ago." The red haired teen suddenly spoke, bowing while he apologised.

"It's fine." Even though he said that, his mind was complaining to himself. 'Am I that small for the people not to notice I'm there?'

"Ehem...You two are 30 minutes late and yet you still manage to chit chat?" the male muscular instructor said with his angry voice. "What a Dame duo." The instructor's remark made some students secretly chuckle since they didn't want the instructor to get mad them too.

Well, now their classmates had a labelling for them, that's for sure.

"Name."

The duo blinked as they looked at their instructor who was waiting for a reply and so the red haired boy did his introduction first.

"E-Enma Kozato, cello user." he said with his low and slightly trembling voice, looking down at his feet.

Since the shy teen had nothing left to say, the brunet started his introduction.

He slowly went to the center of the room with his legs slightly shaking. He inhaled deeply as he said his name.

"Tsunayoshi Sawada. Nice to meet you all." he said with his calm and not so enthusiastic voice.

"Incomplete introduction, young man. What about your instrument?" the instructor said with an intimidating one.

His tongue was stuck for a moment. He actually didn't want to say the words. He wanted to say that he was going to be a lawyer, not a violinist.

"Hurry up. We don't have all day, Sawada."

I...I…

So, with his shaky voice, he said the word that scared him on the inside.

"V-Violin user."

Enma noticed that Tsuna was scared and yet sad by the tone of his voice and most of all, those dull and cold brown eyes. It made him curious about the brunet.

"Tch. Now both of you hurry and sit on the vacant chairs. "

Both of them look at each other as the red haired student smiled at the brunet.

'Eh? Why? Did I do something?' the brunet thought, confused. Why did the student beside him suddenly smile? Tsuna could only react with a blink. But somehow, the smile of the teen made him okay, just for a little bit. Maybe he should thank him later.

So, the both of them went to the two vacant seats at very end. Unknown to the brunet, Kozato Enma was still observing those brown dull eyes that now showed a little hint of radiance, which made him glad.

Those brown eyes would be more attractive if they were full of life. It suited them.

The class went on, and Tsuna got bored because he already read a lot of books on their topic from those times, so he tried to entertain himself with the use of his pen and notebook. He drew his scary teacher in a serious manner, though it looked really crappy. The eyes were too big, the nose was bigger than normal and the moustache was not even with the right side. He sighed in defeat. 'I'll never be a good artist no matter what. Unless the theory about parallel worlds is really true.'

Meanwhile:

*A certain brunet suddenly sneezed while drawing the ocean at night with the moon shining at its best, reflecting on the calm water waves. 'Did someone talked about me?'*

(A/N: If read at one of my story 'child of the night', then yeah, you already know him)

Now back with the story.

Beside the brunet was the red haired student, sleeping peacefully. Lucky for him, the instructor didn't saw him yet so he just let him be for a while. But when the instructor was about turn to them, Tsuna hurriedly shook the sleeping student, but before Enma could even wake up, the instructor already saw him while the brunet tried to wake him up.

"Dame Duo, outside. NOW."

It was the first time Tsuna was called that and the worst was making him stand outside. Could this get any worse?

He checked his watch for the time. 5 minutes before lunch break.

Tsuna decided, without consulting the scary looking instructor, to go outside as he was instructed, but he brought all his belongings with him.

And he didn't stay outside the classroom. Instead he tried to find a spot for him to spend his break alone.

He noticed a big tree, shielding the grass below it from the warm sunlight. A perfect place that only he knew of. He hurriedly ran into that area as he contentedly sat on the cool green grass and leaned back on the trunk as he could finally be alone.

"Nice choice."

Maybe not.

The brunet blinked as he looked at the student beside him.

"WHA-?!" Naturally Tsuna was surprised to see that Enma followed him and he didn't even feel his presence.

"S-Sorry, because I have nowhere to go and you're the only person I know from our class so, I decided to follow you." Enma scratched the back of his head.

Tsuna nodded as he stated his condition. As long as the red haired teen was quiet, then there was nothing to worry about.

The two sat on the both ends of the big tree trunk and silently ate their lunch. After a while, Tsuna closed his eyes, feeling the afternoon breeze. Enma brought out his cello as he made himself comfortable and started to slide his bow on the strings of his instrument, releasing a mellow and rich sound, lower than the sound of a violin. This made the brunet snap his eyes open, but he didn't leave the area. Instead, he intentionally listened to the melody and all of a sudden, he stood up and went to the other side of the tree when the red haired teen was in the middle of the performance and he stopped him.

"S-Sawada-san?" Enma looked Tsuna.

"Your Cello's tune is a little bit off."

"O-Off?" He couldn't believe it. The instrument sounded fine to Enma. But his classmate was telling him otherwise?

"This string." Tsuna pointed a certain string in the rightmost corner. "Just rotate it a little bit and it will be fine." he said. Tsuna was about to return to his original spot Enma suddenly grabbed the brunet's wrists.

"Wait, Sawada- san. I want you to stay here and listen to my music."

Tsuna hesitated at first, but when he saw the serious and sincere red eyes of the teen, he decided to stay and watch his classmate. Kozato Enma tuned his cello and proceeded to play his interrupted piece.

(Elgar's Cello concerto 2nd movement)

The cello piece had a strong and the same time a lively mood. Tsuna watched the red haired teen passionately play, hitting the fast notes in a clean manner without any signs of mistakes. The brunet got the impression that as of now, it was just his classmate Kozato Enma and his cello.

Little by little, students slowly built up where the cello user is currently performing. They had to admit that Enma was a good cellist. Not just good, but an amazing one.

Then, the brunet thought on. 'What is the genius cellist doing here as a non-regular music student?'

Tsuna still felt a little uncomfortable while watching the performance, especially now that the number of students who come to watch had increased and the fact, that Tsuna was watching the performer in the front row. It still scared him, but the sound that was coming from the cello seemed to help him to feel calm, like everything was going to be alright.

After the performance, the former shy Kozato Enma returned as he realized what he had just done. The students clapped and praised him for his amazing performance. He bowed and thanked them as the students dispersed.

"Kozato-san, you're amazing!" Tsuna said as he approached Enma and smiled brightly for a moment, shocking the cellist as the brunet spoke, "And it's odd that you were accepted into this school as a non-regular student when your skills should have gotten you accepted with no problem at all."

"W-Well, the music piece that I accidentally sent was full of errors since a lot of people were watching me while I recorded the performance." the cellist said and frowned. Tsuna sighed, but then suddenly smiled.

"Just do your best for the recital that is held every month, I'm sure that you will be promoted to regular classes in no time." The brunet grinned sheepishly, making the cellist smile too, and he then nodded in return and looked at the pair of brown orbs that had a tint of brightness.

However, Enma noticed the brunet's violin case was positioned in a careless way and accidentally blurted out the word 'violin' which made Tsuna's brow twitch, remembering his violin.

His precious violin.

"Y-Your violin, it's-" the cellist immediately spoke, but was cut in by the brunet.

"I'm scared."

'Huh?' both of them thought.

What the brunet confessed confused Enma. 'He's scared of his violin?'

And Tsuna was especially confused. It was unexpected on his part that he would actually say what he really felt to a classmate that he just met. He continued to speak. He had no idea why he couldn't control himself.

He knew that it was him. The real him. The weak one that he buried deep inside his heart.

"I'm scared. I can't even look at it." His voice trembled as he felt his body tense.

'Stop, Tsuna.'

"I-I hate it, and I promised to never play it again. But I-I still want to look at it." Tsuna said as his pair of dull brown orbs slowly regained its natural and warm feeling.

'Please.

I…

I want to play again.'

For a moment, his facade collapsed.

And Tsuna was able to mutter the words that he wanted to do.

What he really wanted to do.

"I want to play again."

But he instantly composed himself. He closed his eyes for a while and when he opened them, they were back into a dull hue.

"Forget what I said, Kozato-san. I'll be leaving this academy after a year anyways." he said with a smile. A fake smile.

'Sawada-san. Why are you holding yourself back? What's wrong?' Even though Enma didn't know what really happened to his classmate, he still wanted to help him. He could still hear the other side of the violinist. It was screaming. So, he decided.

Enma stood up, hurriedly picked up the brunet's violin and went back to his position as he put the violin in front of them.

"W-What are you doing, Kozato-san?" Tsuna felt uncomfortable as he felt his whole body move in a warm and cold sensation.

"Sawada-san." Enma spoke as he held the zipper of the hard case. It made the brunet's heart rate increase as his body slowly distanced itself from the violin, only to be stopped by the red haired teen.

"You need this. Please stay."

Now the cellist slowly unzipped the hard case and revealed the violin that was no touched for a year. For some reason, it looked lonely. He stared at the brunet sitting uncomfortably in front of him. Tsuna's eyes were shut tightly and his fists were clenched. Enma picked up the violin as he held the brunet's hand slowly opening the fist and gently placed the violin. He observed that the violinist's hands were shaking while holding it. It seemed that he knew what he was holding.

"Sawada-san, open your eyes."

Tsuna didn't want to. He was scared. But something told him open them and so he did. Slowly, but surely.

The brunet opened his eyes and they widened in shock as he saw his untouched violin.

It was still the same, simple brown violin that he owned and treasured, but it felt different since he couldn't feel his violin's feelings anymore and now he was holding it with his trembling hands, afraid to be rejected by his own instrument.

"He's waiting for you, Sawada-san."

Tsuna stared Enma. He wanted to believe in him.

The real him wanted to. So, he inhaled deeply and blinked three times before looking at his violin again.

Now, he found himself holding his violin smoothly without any trace of anxiety as he felt the old feeling he knew so well return.

The feeling of peace and happiness that he always sensed the moment he held his violin, just like in the past.

But then his mind became aware again, his hand started to shake much worse than before as he let go of his violin, letting it drop to the ground. Fortunately, Enma caught it before it reached the ground.

The both of them sighed in relief.

"S-Sorry, Kozato-san. I was-"

"It's fine, Sawada-san." Tsuna said as he put the violin back inside its hard case and waved his hand at the brunet.

It was fine, because for a moment, he saw the brunet look truly happy for the first time.

The brunet looked at his hands as if he wanted to feel the sensation again.

Then the school bell rang...

The both of them were alarmed as they hurriedly stood up and ran in the direction of their classroom.

However, the brunet stopped running along the way and Enma noticed it as he stopped too.

"Sawada-san?" Enma turned to his side and looked at the brunet curiously. Then he saw a bright smile, this time a lot brighter than earlier. Even if Tsuna's eyes were still not as bright as they could be, Enma knew it was sincere.

"Tsuna." The brunet paused before he continued. "Call me Tsuna."

This made Enma feel delighted. 'My first friend inside the Academy.'

"Then call me Enma, Tsuna-kun." he said with a grin on his face.

Both of them nodded, followed by a laugh as they started running late again.

It was okay, since it was worth it.
