20. Chapter 20

Chapter Twenty

Conner, Ethan, and Kira arrived at the library a half-hour earlier than planned. "Oh, the library isn't open yet," said Kira. There a lot of space here, a walkway and a lot of benches….I don't see how Erica could plan an ambush right here in the open," said Ethan. "It doesn't hurt to be careful," said Conner.

Suddenly the three of them heard someone singing:

"Aku no hana karen ni saku

They followed the voice to one of the benches where they saw Erica lounging on a bench reading a book. "Leave the Tyrannodrones at home he said. We're the good guys, we don't ambush people." Erica looked up at them, "Last time I listen to my brother." "What's your game?" said Conner. "Game?" said Erica slyly, "What game?" "Did you really expect us to believe that you would just happen to want to study with Ethan the day after you found out his identity?" "Yeah…Are you guys under some crazy impression that I have an ulterior motive?" "You knew who he was when you made this meeting!" screamed Conner. "And?" "Erica….why did you make that quip about the Tyrannodrones if you weren't planning on bringing them?" asked Kira. "Well, you three are here which means you assumed that I'd ambush Ethan, but considering the numbers, who really ambushed who? Three against one doesn't seem like fair odds." "Are you trying to tell us you didn't have an ulterior motive? You were seriously going to study?" "Yeah." "Why?" "What do you mean Why? Ethan needed help, that's why he called me!" Erica looked at Ethan for support. "Yeah, I did," said Ethan. "But you knew he was the Blue Ranger…." started Conner. "Yeah, and there is a difference between when I fight you guys and when I don't fight you guys. Do you know what that is?" Erica looked around for an answer. "I'm off the clock now. I'm not fighting, and I don't go looking for a fight when I'm off the clock!"

"You expect us to believe that. You weren't gonna capture Ethan because your "off the clock"?" said Conner. "I don't care if you believe me or not, it's the truth." Erica's watch went off, "It's eleven, I take it the fact you brought 'help' you weren't planning on studying today." "No," said Ethan. Erica sighed, "I see how it is." She picked up her bag and started walking away, but Conner grabbed her arm. "We not done talking yet." "Hands off, McKnight! I don't need my Dino Gem power to drop you!" "Yoo-hoo!" said a very scary familiar voice.

"Wow, McKnight," started Erica, "Not only did you plan to ambush me, but you wanted it recorded! You're colder than Elsa." "We didn't invite them," said Kira. "Sure you didn't."

Cassidy and Devin ran up to the four of them. "What's up Cassidy?" said Erica. "Ummm," she started. Erica saw that Conner still had a grip on her so she pulled away from him, "Do you want to talk to me or them?" "You." "What about?" "Umm, you're doing that study thing today right? Steven said you didn't mind a big group." "Uhh…yeah, sure." "How did Steven know?" "I had a meeting with these three BUUUT they just cancelled on me." "Can we join?" "Yeah, why not? I bought a bunch of books to help." Erica reached into her bag and pulled out two books. "These are pretty much a very basic understand on paleontology. I'm sure if you can gasp the terms in these books the reading in the textbook should be clearer….." Erica, Cassidy and Devin started walking towards the library. As soon as they entered, Kira started walking a short distance away from Conner and Ethan, "Are you two happy?" "What do you mean?" said Conner. "She wasn't planning anything! She fully intended to spend today helping Ethan pass this test! And you guys just….didn't trust her."

Ethan walked up to Kira, "Are we talking about the same person. The same person that left you and me for dead! Demorphed Conner! Tried to frame her brother as a traitor! How much trust do you give a person like that?" Kira tensed up. "How do you know there isn't an ambush waiting for me there!" said Ethan. "I don't think she would've brought Cassidy and Devin into the library if there was….No….of course she wouldn't…" Conner, Ethan, and Kira walked towards one of the windows of the library and peeked in. They didn't see Erica, Cassidy, or Devin. "There is a logical explanation…."started Kira. "Yeah, I bet," said Conner. "One sec," said Ethan as he pulled out his phone. "Hey Devin, I wanted to talk to you about a Dragon Wars trade, where are you?" "We are on the second floor cause that where all the science books are. Can I call you back later, the librarian is staring daggers at me." "Yeah, no problem, as soon as you get out." Ethan hung up the phone, 'They are on the second floor. Devin is gonna call afterwards." "Okay, that settles that," said Kira. "We should go back to base."

While Conner, Ethan, and Kira were meeting Erica…

"So what do you guys think?" said Steven breathing heavily and stretching himself. "Honestly…." Said Dr. O, "I'm more curious about your armor than your power." "Are you telling me I just spent the half hour trying to impress you with my powers and all you can say is 'I was looking at your armor so I completely missed the power show'!"

"I liked it," said Trent. "Thank you," said Steven making a mock bow. "But…." "Don't say that." "It's just…it seemed that your attacks have a big blast radius. Don't get me wrong, the Ruby Blast, very powerful. You have a lot of room to work with in the woods…hitting all those trees…that is not how we fight. We are more….close up. I'm more concerned your attack might do more than hit the monster."

"Like hit the civilians," said Dr. Oliver. "Yeah," said Trent. "I see," said Steven, "Well, I also have this Phantom Laser. It's supposed to fire black energy beams." "Supposed to?" "I haven't tested it yet." "And how do you know it's supposed to do that?" "The guy who gave me this suit told me that what it's supposed to do." "Someone gave you the suit? Who?" asked Dr. O. "I'm not allowed to say, it was a condition." "Can this person be trusted? For all we know this guy could've given you a bomb." "I trust him. He wouldn't have given me something that could potentially kill me." "Interesting."

"So am I in?" said Steven. Dr. O smirked, "I don't know. What would you do if we say no?" "Ask Mesogog for a job, I think the problem with Erica is that we not spending enough time together. Maybe working together might cheer her up." Trent and Dr. O looked at each other, "Are you serious?" said Dr. O. "Yes." "He's bluffing," said Trent. "You sure?" said Dr. O, "If Kira needed help wouldn't you make a deal with the devil?" "No, the devil costs too much." "Are you sure you in love?" said Steven smirking at Trent. "Okay," said Dr. O, "You're in, but you only fight when we say you can." "Who is we, is it a majority vote or can the Red Ranger make the call solo?"

All of the sudden, they heard footsteps coming from the entrance. Conner, Ethan, and Kira were walking downstairs. Conner stopped short at the bottom when he saw Steven, with Ethan and Kira stopped behind him. "Hi," said Steven. "What are you doing here?" asked Conner. "I invited him," said Trent, "He wants to join our side." "Really?" said Conner. "Yeah, really," replied Steven. Dr. O put up a hand, "Conner, I said it was okay." "Fine, but that doesn't explain why he's here." "He wants to join our side," said Dr. O. "Does he?" "Yeah, I do. Now would you please stop talking like I'm not in the room?"

"You understand why we're…..skeptical," said Ethan. "You mean scared? No I don't know why." "How do we know you're not working with her?" asked Conner. "Because….I asked you three to help her on Friday, remember?" "SO why did you send Cassidy and Devin to the library to meet with her." "One, when Trent said you the three of you were going to meet her, I was worried about what you were going to do. Two, Devin was at his wit's end on tutoring Cassidy and needed someone better to help her. Erica the best person I know on Paleontology who could do something with Cassidy. I think I might've called her a miracle worker…." "Trent?" said Conner. "Hey," said Trent, "She was fully planning on an honest study session, you're the ones that went with Ethan to accuse her of trying to kidnap Ethan!" "How do you know she wasn't gonna do that!?" "She my damn sister, she completely forgot about the meeting until I reminded her yesterday! She wasn't planning anything that you three needed to ambush her!" "Enough!" said Dr. O. "Whatever happened, happened. Drop it." "Fine," said Conner turning towards Steven, "Why our side, why not Erica's?" "Funny story about that….." started Steven as he started to explain the event that occurred yesterday.

"You're kidding…." Said Dr. O. "You WERE bluffing about trying to go to Mesogog side!," said Trent. "Yeah. If I go to him, I'm probably gonna get killed." "Why would she save you, she risked…." "She knew the damn risk and she still help me! That's how I knew she wasn't gonna try anything with Ethan!" said Steven. "Well at least we know how to get Erica on our side. We just need to swipe Erica Dino Gem that Mesogog holding on to." "Oh yeah, that shouldn't be too hard," said Steven. "Trent, you got our Dino Gems back….could you go back and get hers?" asked Conner. "That was nothing more than pure luck and timing," said Trent, "Mesogog and Erica were not at the base, the White Ranger was knocked out, and Elsa and Zeltrax were fighting Conner and Dr. O, what the hell are the chances of that happening again?" "The Cubs have a better chance at winning the World Series," said Dr. O. "Yeah, those odds seem about right."

"So Steven," said Conner. "What can you contribute to the team? We have a computer expert, a Dino expert…." Steven smirked and raised his arm that had his morpher, "I've spent the past half-hour showing Trent and Dr. O what I can do, you wanna see?" "Why don't you give them another demonstration, this time focus more on the martial arts and that…..energy beam gun of yours," said Dr. O. "Ok," said Steven. "Energy gun…..is that safe?" asked Kira. "I dunno," said Steven, "I'll test it on a tree and see what happens." Conner, Ethan, Kira and Steven left the base.

"Hayley, what kind of energy reading was Steven giving off?" "He wasn't fighting long enough to get a complete reading," said Hayley typing on the computer, "But from what we've seen so far, most of his energy is emanating from the red ruby from his chest." "Have you figured out what is the jewel, crystal thing is?" asked Trent. "Without a complete analysis, the computer is telling me, we don't have this crystal on record." "So it is newly discover rock?" asked Trent. "Or a space rock…."said Dr. O, "Hayley, cross reference the rock to my secret files." "Okay, scanning now…." "Secret files?" asked Trent. "From my past life as a Ranger." "We have a 50% match," said Hayley, "To something called a Power Ruby." "Power Ruby?" said Trent looking at Dr. O, but he folded his hands and was staring into space, "So he's back…." "Who's back?"

Kira came running down the stairs. "Ok, so what is he?" "What do you mean?" asked Trent. "He pulled out his ray gun thingy and shot a perfect hole through the trees!" "Trees?" "There are three tree lined up right behind the other, and he pulled his laser gun and BLAST! There are now three perfect holes in those poor trees." "I wonder what it will do to the Tyrannodrones?" Connor, Ethan, and Steven came down soon after. "Ok, he's in," said Conner. "Woot!" said Steven. "Just shoot the Tyronnodrones, okay?" said Ethan. "Ok." "Or the mutant monster Mesogog sends our way," added Connor. "Right." "Please don't let that thing go off near civilians, okay?" said Kria. "Ok." said Steven. "Have you thought about a code name, Black Ranger already taken," said Conner. "I was thinking the Dark Avenger!" said Steven making a heroic pose.

"How about the Phantom Ranger?" said Dr. O leaning against the wall.

Steven tensed up, "Where did you hear that name?" "From a past life." "That not me, that's my predecessor." "I figured. You haven't shown us your invisible power yet." Steven shrugged, "You and Trent already have that ability, no point in showing an ability you are familiar with. And it's not invisible, but more like transparent. You can see me when I move." "Could it last longer in that form than me or Trent would?" "I dunno, what's your time in invisible mode?" "You haven't shown Erica what you could do right?" "No, I didn't feel like giving Erica and her boss the chance to see me, would have ruined the surprise." "They won't see you coming if you make your debut invisible. They know me and White Ranger can do it, but not the Phantom Ranger." "Don't call me that!"

"Am I missing something here?" said Trent looking at Connor, Ethan, and Kira. "You're not the only one who's lost," said Conner.

At Mesogog Base…(A few hours Later)

The Pink Ranger headed to Zeltrax's lab where he was working on his zord, "Have we figured out how we are going to do this?" "What do you mean?" I'm pretty sure the Rangers have us out-gunned against this…..thing. We're going to need something…." "Like?" asked Zeltrax. "I dunno. A plan would be nice." "I have a plan." "Can I see it?" "No." "How am I supposed to do my job tomorrow if I don't know what I'm doing?" "You'll get the plans tomorrow." "Why not now?" Zeltrax slapped something down hard and turned to face her. "The later you receive the plans, the less chance there is of it falling into enemy hands." "Are you kidding me?! What makes you think that I would do that? If anything goes wrong with your plan, your first thought is that I gave it away! Why would I jeopardize this plan and myself?" "After what you pulled yesterday, I wouldn't put anything past you," he countered. "What the hell do I need to do to prove my loyalty?" "Are you still seeing him?" "Not anymore. It's too risky." "Then get rid of all your contact with him." "How do you want me to do that now? It can't wait until tomorrow?" Zeltrax glared at her. The Pink Ranger let out a sigh, and pulled out her phone. She clicked a few buttons and showed Zeltrax. "Here this is me blocking his number, and this is me deleting his number. Happy?" "Tch. What stops from undoing all that when you leave the base?" "ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!" "Zeltrax," said Elsa from the ground floor. "We need to talk about these plans for tomorrow." Elsa climbed into the elevator where Zeltrax and the Pink Ranger was. "How soon is the Pink Ranger getting these plans?" said Elsa as she climbed out of the elevator "Zeltrax won't give me the plans until tomorrow," said the Pink Ranger "The plan being executed tomorrow. Why would you hold out on giving her the plans, she has an important role in it," said Elsa. "So there is no chance of it getting into enemy hands," said Zeltrax. "Are you kidding me? After yesterday fiasco, I'm sure if anything goes wrong with this plan, Mesogog going to be blaming her for everything!" "Yay," said the Pink Ranger sarcastically. "If this plan fails, you're going to lose your chance on your revenge and she's gonna be blamed for it! Now, are you going to give her the plans or not?"

"How much am I involved with this? I thought this was all Zeltrax?" "Lord Mesogog doesn't care what Zeltrax motivations for his plan are, he wants this plan to be a success so he put you in it. Maybe if you do a good job he might forgot about yesterday." Elsa handed the Pink Ranger the plans, "How good is you and your zord team work?" "I know how Chomper works," she said as she scanned the plans, "We can work together in sync no problem….." The Pink Ranger was rereading the plans again, "But this…does Mesogog want me and Chomper to fight separately?" "Yes. Mesogog said you can have her fight on command." "Yeah but I'm giving her orders telepathically when I do that. I've haven't done it when I give her an order and I do something completely different." "Well," said Elsa, "That is your job tomorrow. Mesogog wants your zord fighting the Rangers zords, while you fight the Rangers personally." "Okay," said the Pink Ranger, "Chomper and I can work over the plans tonight no problem." The Pink Ranger took the plans and went into the elevator and left.

"Well?" said Elsa. "She said she cut off communication with him. Deleting his stuff from her phone," replied Zeltrax. "You don't believe her." "There is nothing stopping her from seeing him behind our backs." "I can handle that. I'll even give Mercer a warning, I'm sure he doesn't want to see her punished."

Erica came home late from training with Chomper. She came in through the back door to minimize the noise. As she snuck past Anton's study, "Can you come in when you have a second Erica?" Erica let out a sigh and entered the study. Anton was busy writing something when Erica came into the room and laid down on the couch. He put his papers away, "It's late. Where were you?" "You know where I was." "Were you with Steven?" "NO! I was getting ready for the job tomorrow. I needed to go over some moves with Chomper to make sure the plan works. Or else I was going to improvise." "And?" "We are fine for tomorrow. SO long as someone doesn't screw up." "Zeltrax?" "He is a loose cannon, if anyone not gonna follow the plan it's him!" "He has just as much to lose in this situation as you do." "Why did you bring up Steven? Why you think I was with him?" "After what happened yesterday, everyone is a little concerned about your loyalty." "Elsa and Zeltrax have better things to worry about than my love life." "Are you breaking up with him?" "Again. Seriously? I told him we need to keep our relationship low-key." "Is he joining the Rangers?" "Why would he?" "I assumed he told the Rangers your identity so that means he is on their side." "He's not. He was just trying….to help me." "By spilling your secret to your enemies? You call that helping?" "What do you want from me?!" "I want you stop seeing him." "Are you serious? Did Zeltrax put you up to this?" "Noone put me up to anything, Erica. It's just…." "Just?" "Initially, I put Elsa on as Principal Randall to watch over Trent. She stayed on after we figured out the Rangers identity. You want to know why?"

Erica was thinking of an answer.

"It is very convenient having all those addresses on the school database, students….teachers. Especially being in a position of power where you can do something about it."

Erica sat up from the couch, "Are you serious…..?" "At any time. One phone call to Elsa and I have a list of the Power Ranger addresses….and Steven." Erica clenched her fist, "Why haven't you done it already then…if you do have that power." "Not very sporty to attack someone at home…but I think I can make an exception." "I already deleted him from my phone, what more do you want." "BREAK. IT. OFF" "We are already…" "Listen to me. I don't even want to see you together, even when you are off-duty. I don't want you seeing each other at all! Do I make myself clear?!" Erica released her fist, "Chrystal." She left the room and slammed the door behind. "Please," he whispered, "Use all that anger against them tomorrow."

Some time later at Steven's house….

Steven was at home watching the new anime on TV. He kept texting and calling Erica throughout the episode but she wasn't replying back. "Knowing her, she probably re-reading the textbook before the exam. He smirked. After the show was over he went online to his favorite blog site to talk with other fans about the show ending. Before he could start blogging, he saw something on the screen, "Hmm….that's interesting….." he murmured to himself.

The Next Day…

The first period bell rang and mostly everyone was seated. "Alright," said Dr. Oliver holding a stack of papers in his hand. "Whose ready for the exam?" A long groan filled the classroom. "Great, I see how excited everyone is." He quickly scanned the room, "Are we missing someone?" looking at Trent. Trent shrugged, "I figured she was excused since we all know whose getting the A." Some students made a very quiet laugh. "Very funny," said Dr. O. "I didn't see her when I left, I assume she left before me." Suddenly, as if on cue the sound of someone singing from the hallway made it way to the classroom.

"I will be your Deadmaaaan/With nothing but this blood on my hands/Stuck in your wonderlaaaand/I just want to make you bleed like me"

Suddenly the singing stopped and Erica entered the classroom. She scanned the classroom, "You didn't start the exam." "I was waiting for you," said Dr. O sarcastically. "You didn't have to do that, I came late because I didn't need the whole class period." "OOOHHH" murmured the class. "Aren't you being a little cocky?" "Listen," she said pointing at him, "I spent EIGHT hours at the library yesterday studying for this exam! You call me cocky, call me prepared." "Alright MS. PREPARED", he said as he took the top test paper from the pile, "This one has your name on it." She took the test from his hand and made her way to the back of the classroom. Steven purposely turned to face the window as she walked past him, and she didn't give him a passing glance. Erica was passing a black student whose she was not introduced to, who quipped "Fantastic anime by the way." "I know right, but one season, ugh!" "The manga is better." "I heard that, and it doesn't leave readers with a cliffhanger." "Erica," said Dr. O, "Aren't you gonna sit with Steven?" "No. I don't want to give away the answers, she said as she sat down. The anime guy elbowed the guy next to him, "SO what is the latest rumor with the power couple?" "Cassidy and Devin?" "No. Erica and Steven." "I thought they broke up, and now they are friends..." "But…?" "I assumed they were friendly enough to sit next to each other. I guess something happened."

Ethan looked at Devin and mouthed "Eight hours?" Devin nodded and sent Ethan a text, "I swear Erica has the patience of a saint. I was ready to book five or ten times. But she stuck with Cassidy until she got it. I don't get why you booked yesterday, you could've learned so much." Ethan looked at his text for a minute. "Ethan?" said Dr. O. Ethan looked at Dr. O. "You ready to put your phone away?" he asked. Ethan turned off his phone as discreetly as possible and put his phone in his pocket. "Now that everyone is here let's get this test started."

About halfway through the class period, "Dr. Oliver, question 35 is a trick question!" said Erica. "Erica, every question has an answer. Even the ones you don't think have an answer to it." "Oooohhhh" the class murmured. A few minutes before the class period ended, "Finished!" said Cassidy as she went to the front of the room to hand in her exam. "You sure?" said Dr. Oliver, "You have a few minutes." "Nope. I know I got this one in the bag," said Cassidy leaving the classroom.

At the end of the class period, after everyone handed in their exam. "Hey, its Erica right," asked the black anime student, walking over to Erica desk, "I'm just gonna ask it. How many questions were on your exam?" "My exam?" "Uh huh." "50 short answer. How many were on your?" "Well…I think for the rest of us it was 30 multiple choice questions." "WHAT?!" "Ms. Fernandez, if you have question about your exam we can meet in private after everyone leaves," The anime student took the hint and left the classroom. Erica walked up to Dr. Oliver desk, "Seriously? Is this because I'm the Pink Ranger or something?" "It has nothing to do with that. Like you, I like to keep my professional and personal life separate." "God, can anyone on that team keep a secret?" "Wouldn't you tell your boss about conversations you had with the enemy?" "Fair enough." "Look Erica, for all intents and purposes I was going to give you the exact same exam. Then….I got this memo Saturday night." Dr. Oliver pulled out a piece of paper from his desk and handed it to Erica. She took the piece of paper and started reading off of it.

"To Dr. Oliver….I realize that Paleontology is not challenging enough for the valedictorian of the school…so I have redesigned the class to be Honor Paleontology for said student…to do this you need to change how you teach the course to meet the honor requirement…state standard require harder exam and a research paper to satisfy honor designation…..will let you and valedictorian figure out the detail…Principal Randall"

Erica was still scanning the memo, "You have got to be kidding me…." "Read the time stamp." "Saturday at 9pm. She bumps me up to honors without telling me. Awesome." "Now I want you to look at a copy of your exam versus the exam I gave to the class", he said as he gave her a blank copy of both exams. Erica scanned both exams. "The first 30 questions are the same, the only difference is…" "You have blank space where the rest of the students have 4 answer choices. 50 questions is easier for you because…." "My points per question are worth less than theirs are." "Yup. So please don't complain when I'm trying to do you a favor." "You could've given me a heads up." "I thought I was given this memo after Principal Randall spoke to you. I thought this was done with your permission." "It wasn't. How do you even know she was talking about me in this email? Wasn't there a potential valedictorian before I transferred here? How do you know this wasn't for them?" "I actually did think of that because you and the salutatorian, who used to be the valedictorian before you transferred, are in this class." "And?" "Re-read the memo." Erica looked at the email again. "As you know the valedictorian is only taking two non-honors classes, lunch and Paleontology." "I did a student search on both of you. Erica, you're the only one who fits that criteria." "You're trying to tell me that Principal Randall didn't put the prior valedictorian in Honor classes?" "No." "But she put me in Honor classes. Why the different treatment?" "Honestly, Principal Randall was transferred here after the incumbent students schedule were fixed in. I don't think she was permitted to move around students like that. Tevin had already picked his classes for the year. It would have been 'inappropriate' if she moved him around just to boost his GPA." "Tevin. That his name?" "He was valedictorian by at least a few points. Even if you did not transfer in to this school, he would have stayed top of the class despite the non-honors classes he was taking." "But when I transferred in…." "Randall saw an opportunity to put you in Honors classes since you were not able to 'pick' your classes." "And bump Tevin down a spot." "Why are you telling me this? I don't care about class ranking! What do I care if I graduate valedictorian or salutatorian?" "What do you think Smithfield cares about? Which do you think they might pick? I know the main reason you decided to move in with you brother and Dr. Mercer after being separated by x years was motivated by the requirement to get into Smithfield." Erica was silent, "Why am I getting this lecture, now of times. Shouldn't I have been given this lecture beforehand, like the first week I came to this school?"

Dr. Oliver sighed. "First off, do you know what tomorrow is?" Erica shook her head. "SAT grades come out for the seniors and that starts the race for college applications." "We are in our senior year shouldn't we have gotten the SAT grades in our junior year. I mean, I know I took it in another country but I received my grades in my junior year." "Yeah, but some students retook the test in their senior year to get a better grade." "Okay so now the race to apply for colleges starts now, great." "Second. I didn't think I needed to worry about the Valedictorian pettiness that goes on in other schools, until today." "What made today different?" "I have never seen you and Tevin speak to each other…until today." "Today….anime guy?" "That's Tevin." "You think he might do something?" "I don't know. We shall see when new SAT grades come in." "Why?" "What looks better on a college application: Valedictorian with a standard SAT grade or a Salutation with a high SAT grade?"

*knock knock knock*

Principal Randall entered the classroom.

As Erica left the classroom, "If you weren't on an important mission this afternoon, I would've given you detention." "And who was going to babysit me. I'm pretty sure school policy dictates the teacher with the lowest seniority is in charge of detention or the teacher that order the detention and guess who that gonna be?" "What did you two talk about?" "Are you serious? Not about today plan if that is what you are concerned about." Principal Randall looked at her menacingly. "We talked about the exam, I was given a different exam from the rest of the class and I was 'ticked off' to say the least. And that when I discovered that I was magically put in an Honors Paleontology class that I didn't sign up for!" "Are you angry for the work or the lack of notice?" "I dunno…..BOTH maybe." Erica walked into the college advisor office. A woman was running around the office giving a group of about 20 students' cups of water. "And you are here for?" she said speaking to Erica. "Umm, I was wondering if I can use one of the computer terminals to get my college application process started." "Yeah, just take one of the free ones." "Busy today?" The counselor helped Erica log into the computer, "Some students got the dreaded email." "What dreaded email?" "The SAT grades won't be released for another week." "Why not?" "Florida is delaying the release of test scores due to hurricane watch. The College Board, wanting to release grades all at once said it isn't fair to postpone one group of exam grade because of the weather. The College Board is afraid that some students might hurt themselves trying to find out their grade, so they postponed it for everyone" "That horrible." "Okay," said the counselor putting down the water. "Are you planning to go to state university, private?" "I looking at one specific university and anything else is just a contingency plan." "Alright," said the counselor pulling out a clipboard and pen, "What schools are you thinking about." "The first one is Smithfield, it a very small, competitive college." "Okay. For what may I ask?" "Paleontology." "Okay. What else. "Harvard, Oxford, Tokyo University." "Okay…have you thought about lower tiered school?" "Like Stanford? Or USC?" The councilor looked at her. It is our lunch period, I will make sure that my volume level stays down while in the hallway from now on." "Principal Randall can I speak to you, outside." The counselor and Principal Randall stepped out into the hallway. "So Counselor, what was the conversation about?" "It was more like a break up fight…." Principal Randall entered her office and closed the door behind her. "Can I go now?" said Steven. "In a few minutes," said Principal Randall, pulling out Steven file. "Baka (Idiot) …." He murmured under his breath. Randall was able to translate. As soon as she sat down reading over his file, "Watashiwa nihongo hasasemasu" (I speak Japanese). "Of course the trees hurt! Not that that you care!" Krista said as she stormed off back into the school. As soon as she left, Tevin went over to Steven and Trent. "Why the hell didn't you tell me!?" "About?" asked Steven. "A girl who likes Deadman Wonderland AND Attack on Titan!?" "Well those aren't her only favorite…." "Is this why you're head over heels with her? Oh my god!" "So why were you late today?" asked Ethan to Steven. "Well….I was late because I met Elsa today." "What?" said everyone. "Where did you see her?" asked Conner. "I left my house to come to the meeting and she showed up out of nowhere with these creatures…the same ones that ambushed me and Erica on Saturday so I figured they were…Tyrannodrones? Anyhow Elsa sent them away so I figured she didn't want to fight." "DO they know about your….?" Started Kira. "No, they shouldn't know about my abilities. I didn't even show Erica on Saturday. Elsa said that I should stay away from Erica….that it wouldn't end well for me." "Why would she approach you? Did she not know about the fight?" Me, Doctor Oliver, and Trent fight Erica. Well, Dr. Oliver and Trent were going to stay invisible while I fight her first, not fight but talk to her. After I speak to her, I go invisible and she chases me and they show up and beat her up until she surrenders." "Erica doesn't surrender. She either kicks our butts or we "kill her," said Conner. "What the hell do you mean kill her?" "When Trent killed her…" "WHAT?" "Don't you remember? In front of the mall, with Cassidy and Devin. She USED YOU AS LEVERAGE." "Right," said Steven remembering the event. "We weren't sure if we killed her or not, but she didn't rise to the surface but we knew she could control the water so we weren't worried about her 'staying dead'." "Okay so either Dr. Oliver and Trent gets their butt kick by Erica OR they "kill" Erica. But if you and Trent need backup I will definitely be nearby if she doesn't kick my ass." "Conner?" said Dr. Oliver. "I'm not totally against the idea. We can make some changes if it deviates from whatever Steven situation is. "Wow. Do you guys guy normally plan strategy meetings this close to the battle?" asked Steven. "Mesogog normally attacks the same time every day. What do we have Hayley?" said Dr. O. "It looks like Zeltrax is bringing the big guns today. It seems to be an Aerial Assault Vehicle and some sort of Terra Assault Vehicle." "An attack on land and air. Mesogog must be desperate. You sure we can't call Trent back?" asked Conner. "Not until he gets our secret weapon," said Dr. O. "Why don't we spilt up 3-2?" asked Steven. "I thought you wanted to fight Erica?" asked Conner. "I think our priority is stopping Zeltrax from destroying Reefside," replied Steven. "Yeah, but there is no way she won't be sitting on the sidelines, especially since Zeltrax just cashed in his chips with these weapons." "Honestly I prefer if I fight Zeltrax by myself," said Dr. O. "You sure? I don't mind blowing off-" started Steven. "No this fight is between Zeltrax and me, if Erica shows up, fight her. Just don't go looking for any backup." "Please, if I seriously need help…..I'll run." "If Erica proves too much for you. Rejoin with us," said Conner. "Oh yeah. Cause I can absolutely take that machine without a zord of my own." "He right Conner. Since this is your first mission…" "Doctor O, let me do this my way," said Steven. "When you meant run…." "Okay Conner, What's the plan?" said Dr. O. "Okay. Me, Ethan, and Kira will fight the Terra Assault Vehicle. Dr. O you fight Zeltrax….Hayley do you have a lock on Zeltrax?" "He is located in the Ariel Assault Vehicle." "Okay, so you fight him in the Ariel Assault Vehicle. Steven, find the Pink Ranger. She should be nearby." "Yeah, where? Near the Ariel Assault or the Terra Assault?" "Hayley?" "I don't have a lock on her now." "Okay then. You go with Dr. O and help with Zeltrax until the Pink Ranger shows up." "Got it." "Alright. Lets break."

Outside the Reefside City Limits…..

Trent was walking through the forest somewhere outside Reefside. "I can't believe I agreed to this plan." Earlier that day…

"No. She went to blow off some steam on a tree and Krista wanted her to stop so she sent Tevin in to "stop Erica." "How did that work out for them?" "It was a draw. So I left." "Since you're here I have a scret mission/favor?" "Why do you say it like that?" "So you'll say yes." "What is it?" "There is a Secret Artifact located somewhere outside Reefside. I've been watching over it for some time, I believe it ahs the power ot upgrade the Rangers power. The problem is is that is hidden, invisible almost, I can't access it. My power has no effect on it." "So you want me to coax it out using my power? That doesn't seem too difficult." "It requires a lot of your Dino Gem Power. The effect could range from putting you into a coma to just a temporary drain on your powers." "Ah. I see why this is a favor. What were you going ot do if I said no?" "I was going to use a power amplifier to make my power stronger to get the artifact out." "That doesn't sound very safe." "I don't think either choice is very safe. But what other option do we have? Can you do it?"

"Ok, okay. I'm here now. No point is dwelling on the past." Trent looked at the waterfall and pulled out the map he was given, "It seems to match. Okay." Trent raised his morpher arm towards the waterfall. Suddenly, a force was pulling Trent power out of his body. Trent took two steps back to try and break the connection but he fell backwards as the connection was broken. "Okay, so Dr. O wasn't kidding about that power drain, It didn't take 5second to drain so much energy from me. I need to do this as slowly as possible."

Near the Reefside coastline…

Both the Black Ranger and the Dark Avenger were walking up a cliff toward the Aerial Assault Vehicle that was hovering a few feet from the cliff. "I don't get it. Why isn't the Aerial Assault Vehicle moving?" "Zeltrax wants us to come to him." "Oh, who doesn't love walking into a trap," the Dark Avenger said sarcastically. "So, Why did you choose the Dark Avenger as a name?" "I don't wanna be called the Phantom Ranger. Too much to live up to." "What do you mean?" "I mean, you were around during the Astronema attack on Earth right?" "Yeah, but you were a just a kid during that time." "Yeah, but when your dad is fighting on the front lines blasting Quantons left and right you can't help but feel insignificant."

"So your predecessor…." "Is my dad, yes. Not that you would call him a dad, being never around when you need him. He would either be working on Earth as a military scientist or maintaining intergalactic peace as a Phantom Ranger. In case you ever wondered, out of all the advanced civilizations in this galaxy, Earth comes dead last. When Zordon-" "How do you know Zordon?" asked the Black Ranger. "Are you kidding, he was one of most powerful sages in the galaxy, how do you notknow him. The question is how do you know him?" The Dark Avenger paused before continuing, "I know the answer to that question. You used to be a Power Ranger years ago, Rita and Zordon was responsible for turning you into one" "How do you know that?"

The Dark Avenger smirked and continued his story, "When Zordon was left imprisoned on Earth, it was meant to be a death sentence because no one on Earth could protect him. But He gave humans the ability to protect him through the Power Ranger Force." "Force?" "Well initially with the original Power Rangers, he condensed the Force into the Five (or Six) Power Symbols which helped them morph. After Zordon was destroyed all the Force was put into the galaxy. But the Force only responds to certain individuals. There are people who know how to harness the Force but cannot use it themselves. For example the Dino Gems, they already had the Force within them. You knew about the force, as I'm sure the others teachers in the past knew, and were able to turn them into morphers." As the Dark Avenger was talking, the Black Ranger was thinking to himself, How the hell does Steven know all this stuff?"

"Moving on, because Earth came in dead last, the Phantom Rangers were sent in to protect the planet from the evil forces trying to take over." "Do you think Zordon being imprisoned had something to do with it?" "I am personally of the opinion that Zordon was such a powerful force even before he was imprisoned on Earth, and when the news spread of his imprisonment, all the villains wanted a piece of him. Since he was trapped, he really couldn't stop them from invading or destroying Earth. "The Phantom Rangers weren't always around. The Rangers have not seen the Phantom Ranger until Divatox attacked." "The Phantom Rangers were defending Earth long before the Power Rangers showed up. I think Zordon needed time before he was able to create the Power Ranger force. The Phantom Ranger have been keeping the alien forces away from Earth, which is why Zordon enemies haven't shown up, until Rita Repulsa was released. She was imprisoned on the moon. The Phantom Rangers ignored her because she was locked up. When Rita was finally released, Zordon had the energy needed to create the Power Rangers, so he told the Phantom Rangers to stay away." "So, what are the Phantom Rangers?"

"Consider them like the Lantern Military Force in the comic books. When Divatox attacked and Zordon left Earth, the Phantom Rangers came back to Earth, that where my dad was sent in. Well, no that's not true. He volunteered to get sent to Earth, I mean who volunteers to get sent to the weakest planet in the galaxy? He was sent to Earth for two reasons: one, to help protect the Earth while Zordon was away. Two, to look for someone." "Who? "My mom. She was banished to this galaxy for breaking the family laws or something like that. She was sent here and stayed with her aunt and uncle. When my dad found out, he pretty much went to Earth to find her and they were reunited. But when my dad saw how good the Power Rangers were protecting Earth, he pretty much took Earth out of the Phantom Ranger protection list." "Are the Power Ranger that powerful, in an intergalactic sense?" "Are you kidding me? The Power Rangers took down some of the most famous villains in the galaxy: the Vile Family, Lord Zedd, and the Machine Empire, just to name a few. Those guys were the most fear beings in the galaxy….until they got their butts whooped by a group of human teenagers." "I see."

"So my dad left Earth in the Power Ranger hands. But since he is still a Phantom Ranger, he has to help protect other parts of the galaxy. SO when it comes to priorities, mom and I come dead last. You know how Trent and Erica complain about Dr. Mercer not being around, but at least he is around. If they really miss him, they can just go to his lab and bother him. I can't do that if I ever wanted to talk to my dad." The Dark Avenger stopped and sighed before continuing with his story.

"You're wondering why I chose the Dark Avenger as a name….I guess I want to avenge everyone who was hurt by these monsters. They come in waves and each Power Ranger team comes together and beats them. But people are still getting hurt in the meantime. It's like once the team disband after the threat is over, a new threat arises and hurts people, and then a new team comes along and kicks butt. I want to be the Earth's Avenger. I know it sounds corny, but you guys are going to quit sometime. Who gonna keep the peace until the next team comes around. Ugh….I'm sorry for the ramble."

"No worries, we reached the top of the cliff. Can I ask you a question?" "Yeah." "How do you know all this stuff?" "The short story….my parents told me. My mom remembers you. You saved her once." "I've saved a lot of people." "I know but she asked me not to tell you about her." "And I guess my second question is….are you human?" The Dark Avenger stopped walking, "In all honesty…..not Earth human….I guess the more familiar term you might be familiar with is humanoid from Star Trek." "So human but not Earth Human." "Right, I might have been born on Earth, but both my parents are not Earth Human." "Steven…..thanks for sharing." "Mom said I can trust you." "Seriously, man. How does she know me?" "First day of school, I got through my teacher roaster with her. When I came across your name she dropped the dishes. She never drops anything. And she asked me what you looked like and she pretty much wanted me to describe you, and when I was done, she told me the story how you saved her life as the White Ranger. And she told me that I can tell you everything if you asked." "Except her name." "She wants to surprise you for parent teacher conference." "Fair enough."

The Black Ranger and the Dark Avenger were staring at the ship. "Ready?" asked the Black Ranger. "Yeah just one sec." replied Steven because he saw a figure sitting at the edge of the cliff with his back facing them, "Hayley, you got a lock on the Pink Ranger?" "Yeah, you see that figure on the edge of the cliff, that's her." "I knew it." "Yeah, she wasn't going to miss this fight." "I guess you're fighting Zeltrax, Mano-a-mano." "Yeah, good luck fighting her." "I just need to apologize and then run like hell." As they both walked closer to the cliff, the Pink Ranger stood up, "Well, well, hello there Black and White Ranger," she then turned around and saw she was completely mistaken. "Well, hello there, Back Ranger and Black Ranger with a red ruby on his chest." "Dark Avenger," he said to her putting his thumb on his ruby, "Nice to meetcha." "No point in intruding yourself, you're be dead soon enough." "Yeah, good luck with that." "You don't need to antagonize her." "But she asking for it." "Black Ranger, Zeltrax is expecting you. Please see yourself up." "Right," he said as he jumped into the Ariel Assault Vehicle. "What about me?" asked the Dark Avenger. "My job is to keep everyone out except for the Black Ranger. I expected to face off against the White Ranger but I supposed you'll do for a warm up." "How do you know the White Ranger is even coming?" "This is your first mission, isn't it? The Red, Blue, and Yellow Ranger are fighting the other monster. I can't believe they would let you fight on your own against me. They must have told you the stories about me kicking their asses." "The only story I heard was the White Ranger running his sword through and you falling into the water." The Pink Ranger clench her fists, "I'm gonna enjoy tearing you apart," she said as she put herself in a fighting stance. "Oh crap…." Thought Steven, "I really put my foot in my mouth this time. How am I gonna apologize to her at this rate."

Hey everyone. After so much time I am back writing. I know some of you might be upset that I have creating my own Power Ranger History/Backstory, but that comes with the Fanfiction territory. -When Erica and Tevin were fighting she mentioned ShoDan and NiDan. In Japanese Martial Arts when you get a black belt there are 10 additional ranks you can get. It ranges from ShoDan (1st Dan) to JuDan (10th Dan). Tevin is a Brown Belt which is the belt level before Shodan, but Erica is a NiDan (2nd Dan). She is two belts above Tevin in Japanese Martial Arts.
