Drunken Tricks Are Sober Wishes

Akari walked (more like drunkenly hobbled) into hers and Tora's bedroom, the place she was led to by one of the household servants after she had been going around bumping into walls and peeking into random rooms for a while.

"Tora?" She yawned, a dopey grin on her face as she giggled softly right after. "Sorry I'm back so late. Aika's bachelorette party was..." She paused, either searching for the right word or ready to vomit. "...long." Thankfully, it wasn't the latter.

The only other person in the room with her didn't answer. In fact, he didn't even look up from the book he was reading. Akari peered at him from where she hovered by their bedroom door. He was sitting on the bed, atop the covers, long legs clad in royal blue pajama bottoms and one crossed over the other in what he probably deemed to be a comfortable position. His back was resting against the many fluffed pillows resting along the headboard, and he held a business book in his hands, lithe fingers curled around the edges of the binding his face was hidden behind.

His wedding ring gleamed in the lamplight on his left hand.

A proud smirk came to Akari's face. That's right, he was her husband. And they were totally married. They were so freaking married, it was almost like they were the same person, like some sort of freakish two-headed monster couple or something.

...Wait, what?

She shook her head at her drunken thoughts. She was acting weird. But then again, she had a reason to be acting weird. She was drunk.

Or... perhaps she wasn't... what if she, instead, was... was...

For some reason, maybe because of the way Tora was sitting there so calmly and ignoring her, she really wanted to mess with him right now. And an idea had just formulated in her foggy brain. An idea that she'd never think to try out while sober.

"You know what's weird?" She tried speaking a bit more clearly, attempting to sound like she wasn't intoxicated with liquor. Taking a few steps forward, she tilted and swayed, eventually turning to sit down clumsily on the nearby divan that stood against the wall. "Aika didn't have any alcohol at her party. Doesn't she seem like the type to go big with the booze?"

Now she had gotten Tora's attention. He lowered the book just enough to peek over the edge of it, golden eyes giving her a quick once-over from across the room.

Akari withheld a drunken fit of giggles and tried not to smile as she went on. Instead, she shrugged. "Well, I found it weird. Also -" She paused abruptly, trying to really sell the scene as she lurched forward uncomfortably, a pained expression on her face. "Ugh... that's... oh I don't feel... very well."

Tora set the book down on the bedside table and stood up. His expression was blank, but she could tell he was slightly worried by the way his lips quirked - like he was going to attempt to smirk, but thought better of it due to his concern.

"Are you alright?" He inquired, standing pretty far across the room from her still, since their room was massive and the bed was at the far end of it.

Barely aware in her drunken haze that if he got close up to her he would be able to smell the alcohol on her breath, Akari sighed, nodded, and sat up straight once more. She offered him a small smile. "It's fine. I'm fine. I've just been feeling a little... off, that's all."

He folded his arms in a serious manner. "And what, exactly, does that mean?"

"I don't know, I just haven't been in the best shape I suppose." She rubbed her stomach as she spoke.

Tora scoffed. "You're in perfect shape. Do you mean that you feel sick?"

"Well, yeah."

"How long have you felt that way?"

Akari was fighting against even more laughter that was ready to escape the longer this played out for. She looked down at the floor in order to hide her lop-sided grin from his gaze. "Uh, it's only a recent feeling. I've just been so nauseous, and it was especially bad tonight."

She glanced up to see him approaching her, and shook her head vigorously, holding up a hand to stop his advancement. "But really, I'm fine!"

Tora didn't stop walking towards her. He had a frown on his face and his eyes were checking her whole form over like flickering search lights. "Did you accept drugs from someone?"

"No! I'm not an idiot."

"And you're not drunk?"

"No, there was no alcohol at the party."

"You don't have food poisoning again, do you?"

"N-" Her eyes widened and she cut herself off, quickly standing and sprinting across their immaculately decorated bedroom. Jerking open the bathroom door, she flew to the toilet and proceeded to throw up the contents of her stomach.

Tora magically appeared by her side, as if having teleported to her, and stood behind her holding back her hair. She had forgotten how inhumanly fast he was, jeez.

"Akari." His voice was firm when he spoke this time. "You are not 'fine'. Is it food poisoning, then?"

Grabbing some toilet paper, she wiped her mouth and winced at the horrible taste in the back of her throat. Too many fruity drinks in little martini glasses. She had had too many fruity drinks, and it was coming back up in a bad, bad way.

"No, it feels different than that, somehow." She sighed, deciding to wrap up this fun charade of hers before he found out - and he would figure it out, as soon as he turned her around and really got a good look at her. "I think I'm-"

Tora interrupted her. "You think you're pregnant?"

Surprised by his tone of voice, which was much calmer than she would have expected, she set the lid of the toilet back down and leaned her elbows on it, burying her face between her arms. "Yes, I think I am." She bit her lip in order to stifle a giggle. Her drunken, goofy smile was back on her face again, threatening to ruin this whole trick before Tora reacted much to it.

Behind her, a certain blonde stood there, still holding back her hair for her even though he no longer needed to. He frowned, blinked a few times, then sighed and shook his head. He was trying to react as calmly as possible to this... they weren't even sure yet if she actually was pregnant, it was just a guess so he shouldn't freak out. Many thoughts were traveling through his mind though, and there was one thing he thought he should say before anything else.

"We said we didn't want to have kids while we were still so young." He reminded her slowly, thinking back to when they first got married and had had the 'baby talk'.

All Akari could do was nod. She was ready to burst out laughing, and therefore couldn't risk speaking.

"We're only in our early twenties, Akari, I thought we were going to be careful." Tora dropped her hair and ran a hand over his face, groaning. "How did this even happen?"

When she still said nothing, he decided to kneel down beside her. His voice was so low, he was practically whispering now. "It's not that I don't want to have a family with you... eventually, I will want that. But this isn't -" He narrowed his eyes when a sound escaped her, a sound that sounded an awful lot like giggling. "Akari...?"

She couldn't help herself, any longer and she would explode. Turning and rolling onto the floor, she snorted out a laugh, and soon had erupted with laughter, as she held her shaking sides.

And that was all Tora needed to see in order to fully understand what was going on, and to have reason to do what he did next.

"Wha- oi - wait - Tora, Torawhatareyoudoing?!"

He stood, collected her into his arms, stepped into the shower, set her down, turned the water on cold, and stepped back out.

"GAAAAAHHHH YOU JERK!" Akari squealed, banging her fists against the glass walls of their giant, walk-in shower. "Open the door, open it! THIS WATER IS FREEZING!"

He held the shower door in place and rolled his eyes, irritably barking at her, "If you weren't so drunk, dear, you'd realize that you can turn off the water yourself."

She turned around quickly and did just that, and he let go of the door and grabbed a towel for her so that she didn't make a puddle of water on the floor.

"It was just a little trick I wanted to play- !" Her explanation was cut off when he threw the towel at her face in his anger.

"You got drunk. You arrived home late - later than you said you would. And, you made up some silly story about being pregnant." He towered over her, eyes narrow and sparking with dangerous intent. She gulped as she wrapped the towel around herself, starting to shiver.

"Well, you've done far worse to me before." She countered, feeling a lot less hazy and drunk now that she'd been thrown into a freezing shower.

He ignored what she said and instead continued on with what he was saying. "What was this all about, eh?" He cocked a golden eyebrow as he questioned her. "Do you secretly want to have children now? Even though we know nothing about being parents? Even though I'm always working, and you're busy with college classes, when you're not accompanying me on trips or helping with the company."

"Tora." Akari glared at him. "You really think we couldn't be parents?"

"You really think we could? Right now? We got engaged after I graduated, and then got married when you did. Don't you understand? We're still young, you're barely even twenty -"

"Twenty-one." She hissed.

He rolled his eyes and rushed a hand through his hair, thoroughly messing up the blonde locks. "Yes, and that's still very young."

Akari sighed deeply. This is not how she wanted things to go tonight. She was acting stupid and drunk, and just wanted to have a laugh and be the one to trick him for once - but things had escalated quickly and gone way out of proportion.

"I think... I'd rather have this conversation with you when I'm sober." She stated, looking down at the ground with her forehead creased and a frown on her face.

Seeing her like that, Tora impulsively reached out a hand and brushed his fingertips underneath her chin, lifting it up so that he could look into her eyes. He spoke to her softly and gently, "But you are often more honest when you're drunk. Drunken words are sober thoughts, after all." He looked over her face carefully. "So I want you to tell me right now, if you're wishing to start... trying for a baby."

"I don't want to have kids yet, at least, I don't think I do." Akari replied quickly, removing herself of his warm touch as she wiped at her face with the towel. She could feel a droplet of water below her eye and it was bothering her. "But..."

Tora closed his eyes. "But?"

"Even if we had a baby right now, while we're so young and so busy, I think we'd find a way to make it work." She moved towards him suddenly, pushing him backwards until he was standing in their bedroom. Before he could respond in any way, she closed the bathroom door between them. "And I think we'd be great parents together. You'd do well as a father, Tora."

There was a pause where they both stood on opposite sides of the door, him with wide eyes and no words left to say, and her clutching the towel tightly in her fisted hands.

"I'm going to take a bath." Akari said quietly, knowing that he could still hear her through the door. "Why don't you go to bed? You don't have to stay up reading anymore, I'm home now. Get some sleep."

Back in their bedroom, Tora stood in front of the bathroom door, feeling, for some reason, guilty. He listened to the sounds of his wife moving about inside the bathroom - the sound of water reached his ears as she ran her bath, and the sound of a drawer opening, a brush running through her hair, clothes ruffling as she undressed herself. He sighed, finally stepping away from the door. She wanted to be alone, and he supposed he should respect that. She would do the same for him.

When he got into bed and set his head to the pillow, attempting to sleep like she had proposed he should do, the image of her wiping away a fresh tear running down her face painted the back of his mind, even when his eyes were closed he saw it.

Had she even known she was crying? She didn't look like she realized it.

Maybe... she really did want to be a mother, sooner rather than later. She might be ready... but was he?

He turned onto his side, reaching out and switching off the nearby desk lamp.

"You'd do well as a father, Tora."

He smirked to himself in the dark. "Would I, though?"
