Chapter XVIII
"Are you ready to go Hijirikawa?" Ren asked looking at the blue haired teen. Masato was trembling more now than half an hour ago. It seemed that the more time that passed the more terrified he would become. Ren could understand the reason for his fear, yet that made him feel useless; and he never had felt in such a way in all his life. He wanted to help the blue haired boy somehow, but he just didn't know how to do it. A few hours ago he knew he had been able to calm Hijirikawa, because he saw and he felt his body stop tremble through his hands. Yet when they both changed clothes Hijirikawa began trembling once again.
Masato looked at the blond when he spoke, however he couldn't answer him. He wanted to open his mouth and tell him that he was okay, but his voice didn't want to cooperate. He could feel his throat was dry and it hurt; a light pain. It was as if his throat was eating all his words one by one, and his own speech was hurting him. He could also feel that all his body was weak, and he was starting to want to close his eyes and sleep... Because he believed that sleep was the only way to calm himself right now.
"Shit… what can I do to help him?" The blond thought, starting to feel desperate with all the sad feelings that were emanating from the blue haired teen in front of him. Seeing him in such a state was hurting him in a strange way. His heart was tight just like the stupid knot in his light pink tie that stood out amidst his light grey suit. It was when he remembered to look at Hijirikawa's figure attentively, and doing that he felt relieved. "Great, with that I can distract him a bit." He thought again, this time approaching Hijirikawa's figure slowly. Hijirikawa wore a dark grey suit with a white shirt. He had never seen Hijirikawa in a suit, unless it was with the uniform of their school but that didn't count since Hijirikawa looked amazingly beautiful and cute and… even sexy in a suit. Ren had never thought about a man wearing a suit in this way, however with the blue haired male it was totally different. He felt something new inside of him, a strange and good sensation that made him feel a pressure in his stomach and his heart quickened. He didn't know what it was, he just wanted to see him in a suit always if possible. "Shit… Focus Ren, focus!" He thought looking away from the blue haired teen and sighing to relieve all the feelings that Hijirikawa's figure had stirred in him.
"Hijirikawa look" The blond started to say while grabbing Masato's dark grey tie, surprising the terrified teen. "Your knot isn't well done."
Masato quickly looked at his tie and saw the knot was not tight enough which was making it to slide down on his neck. Embarrassed, the blue haired boy grasped his grey tie and unfastened the knot saying "T-This is just… I wasn't paying attention and… As I said… I… The tie…"
Ren was now smiling gently at Hijirikawa's expression of confusion and embarrassment. He grabbed Hijirikawa's dark grey tie one more time and stated "You can't do it." The teasing tone of his voice was not unkind as he began to help the blue haired teen.
Hijirikawa stood shocked at Ren's statement and lowered his face to hide his flushed cheeks, then said "P-Petra is the one who helps me with the knot, so I don't know how to do it." He admitted shyly. The blond looked at him and realized that Hijirikawa's body wasn't trembling anymore so he felt relieved. Finally he could be useful to the blue haired boy, he had been able to help him to forget about the important contest a bit. He felt happier knowing that Hijirikawa was fine now, he just wanted him to always be happy. It was painful seeing Hijirikawa sad or hurt, because that hurt him also. More than anything else.
"Do you want some help, Hijirikawa?" Ren asked whispering in his ear making the blue haired teen look at him quickly. "Look, mine is great right? So I will help you BY explaining the basic." He finished as he started to do the knot. Hijirikawa was speechless and still, watching the blond doing so many and confusing folds without stopping. However what caught his attention was Jinguji's gentle smile and his own reaction. One more time the blond had been able to take all his panic away, as if it had never existed. He couldn't understand why Jinguji, such a selfish person could make him feel so calm. It was strange and didn't make sense at all to him, yet right now he only wanted to enjoy the pleasant moment around him. So he closed his dark blue eyes and cleared his mind of all the problems that tormented him. Doing that in the room he could hear the birdsongs through the window, Jinguji's deep and slow breathing and the faint sound of his dark grey knot being folded. It was so pleasant... It felt so good… He just wished he could feel like this during the contest, while playing both songs. This way he would be able to forget about all the people that would be watching him and listening to his song, and create his own world where only he existed. Nevertheless he couldn't forget about the blond, because lately whenever he played in his own world he had been able to sense Jinguji's presence. So he had to ask for his wish in a different way, in other words he had to change it. Yes, at the contest he wanted to create his and Jinguji's world. A world where he played as if nothing else existed, and where the blond would listen to all the different notes of the songs they both would share. Playing in a world like that was what he had always wanted. It was perfection.
"Hijirikawa…" Ren called to him yet the blue haired teen wasn't opening his eyes. "Hijirikawa are you listening to me?" This time Masato opened his eyes and looked at the blond surprised. "Oye are you okay?" Ren was starting to feel desperate again at Hijirikawa's sudden calm.
"I… Yes I'm fine. I'm sorry." Masato said looking away. He felt embarrassed because he realized he had been lost thinking about Jinguji as if he would be by his side always, when in truth today May 7 would be the last day of their time together. He was sad, extremely sad however he accepted it better now because at least he could save some unique and special moments to remember later. Even if Jiguji Ren was not by his side anymore.
"Are you sure?" Ren asked again feeling worried.
"Yes, let's go or we will be late and I can't be late today." Masato said moving away from the blond who was worried still.
"Hijirikawa you should think about the contest once you finish it, until there you should just focus on what it's important to you." Ren said smiling one more time, trying to comfort the blue haired teen. In the beginning Hijirikawa avoided his smile, however a stronger feeling inside of him forced him to look at the blond and return the gentle smile. Ren couldn't believe in what his light blue eyes were seeing. He felt Hijirikawa's smile so deeply inside of him, that somehow he felt his body become weaker due to the sudden and surprising gesture. He had never seen anyone else smiling in such a beautiful way as like Hijirikawa was smiling now. It reminded him of the first time he had seen the blue haired male smiling at him. It was when he found out that Hijirikawa played the piano. However right now, the blue haired teen was glowing at his light blue eyes. Ren was hypnotized. He wanted to say something about that beautiful unique smile, however if he spoke now he knew Hijirikawa would stop smiling and would feel depressed again, so he just ignored his own desires and left the room saying "Let's go then, Hijirikawa."
The large and elegant auditory room was full of people, and those people were applauding one of the participants of the contest. It was a girl and Masato could tell that she was the same age as he, however she seemed to be more mature than him. She was surprisingly beautiful. Her long dark green hair shone under the bright lights of the stage whenever she played the two required songs, her long white elegant dress had shown all her purity especially in Badarzewska's song. It was as if that song had been composed for her only. He didn't know if she had chooseN such a color on purpose, yet even if she had a black or a green dress it would be the same because to Masato she was perfect. Probably the most perfect person playing the piano he had heard in all his life. None of the other participants had played as perfectly as her. He had felt her heart through each one of the pleasant, sublime and strong notes in both songs. Her way of playing the piano was angelical, she moved according to all the high, low, regular and irregular notes. It seemed that she didn't need to adapt to the songs, because the songs were the ones who adapted to her. She ordered them with her long thin fingers and they obeyed with all the loyalty they had. She didn't need to create a world were only she and the piano existed, because all the people listening to her piano and the songs she played were her world. A world that was already created. Hijirikawa Masato was feeling depressed and more nervous than before, because he had wished all his life to be as perfect as that girl, yet he had never reached that state of perfection. The beautiful dark green haired girl was unique in the music world.
"Hijirikawa Masato-san you are the next one, please get ready." One man said interrupting his thoughts and giving him the musical papers of the required songs.
The blue haired teen accepted the papers and said not looking at the man in front of him "Thank you very much."
"Ah Otohime-san, what a wonderful presentation you made. Congratulations, this way you will be in the first place." Another man said smiling happily. Hearing that Masato started to shake uncontrollably. He was terrified of everyone that was there listening to him, and terrified of the piano that he had to play in a few minutes. He was the last participant so it should be a good sign, however he felt a great pressure was over his whole being. All the others had been amazingly incredible playing both songs, especially Beethoven's song the one that scared him to death. So what if he couldn't play that song again? What if all his and Jinguji's efforts, especially Jinguji's efforts, had been in vain? He didn't want to disappoint the blond that had made everything he could for him, but he didn't want to disappoint all the crowd there also. What could he do to calm himself in only a few minutes? Jinguji was the one that had been able to calm him before they had to separate, yet Jinguji wasn't there right now. He was in the middle of the crowd.
"Don't forget that I will be right here with you." Masato remembered Jinguji's words and all his nervousness and fears disappeared. It was mysterious to him how a few simple words of the blond could calm him so much, however he didn't want to think about anything else right now. He had to focus on his performance.
"Hijirikawa Masato-san, it's your time now. I wish you luck." The same man that gave him the papers said one more time, interrupting the blue haired boy. However this time, Hijirikawa Masato was not afraid anymore. He was determined, all due to Jinguji's words.
"Yes, thank you so much." He said taking a deep breath and heading to the stage. His dream was in front of him, so he would grab it with all his might.
While he was walking towards the black piano on the stage, he looked out of the corner of his blue eyes everywhere. He was looking for the one who had supported him so much until now. He wanted to feel safe one more time, and he believed that only looking at the blond would be enough. He didn't know where he was sitting exactly, however he didn't give up to looking for him. He looked at one of the sides of the room, yet he didn't see him. Then he looked at the other side of the room and one more time he didn't see him. Finally he looked at the middle of the room and was able to see the blond, who was looking at him intensely as if his light blue eyes were telling him that he was there no matter what would happen.
"I knew this would be enough." Masato thought moving his eyes to the black piano right before him. This time he didn't fear the enormous instrument, this time he wanted to thank to the blond for everything he had done for him. So he thought it wasn't so bad if he said what he wanted the most through all the notes of both songs. Yes, he would do exactly that. He would let Jinguji know how important he had started to be to him.
The blue haired teen took another deep breath and sat at the black bench of the piano, putting the musical papers in the supporter over the instrument. He had decided to play 'The Maiden's Prayer' first, then 'Moonlight Sonata'. Since in the rules didn't specify which song he had to play first he had decided to do it that way. With another deep breath he began to play the pleasant song. The high and strong notes in the beginning forced all people in the room to be quiet and look at the blue haired male immediately. Those notes had been like a demand for attention, that the previous participant hadn't been able to accomplish. The next notes were all soft, sublime so his movements while playing were as gentle as the song needed. He was creating an incredible and unique harmony in the auditory room. However he was also feeling that harmony inside of him, so he was more than satisfied. Nevertheless he only hoped that Jinguji was also feeling the same way, because after all today he was playing for the blond's sake. The song was reaching its end so he was feeling a bit anxious for 'Moonlight Sonata', yet he wouldn't let the fear and the nervousness dominate him. He had promised that to himself while looking at the bond.
Once the song came to an end, the room continued to be quiet. Even so, he didn't fear the silence. In a way he liked the silence. He took another deep breath and changed the musical paper to Beethoven's song, ready to play the irregular yet strong song. The first movement was slow, strong and sad. If well played it could reach people's hearts easily. Nevertheless Masato didn't believe in all his power yet. He didn't consider himself as someone who could do such an incredible thing. Even so, today he just wanted to play and play and play to thank someone that had started to be important to him. The first movement came to an end and he quickly yet peacefully began to play the second one. This movement was as easy as the first, however it was happier than the previous one. With this movement he thought it would be good if he could convey, through his music all of the memories he had of his moments with that sound. He really wanted him to remember everything since the beginning until the end, in other words today. All the good and bad things that had happened with both of them. All the fights, the words, the looks of concern, anger, happiness, all the smiles… He wanted the blond to remember every single thing that had happened once and probably would not happen again, at least between them. The second movement was ending so he thought about a great farewell in the third movement. He would let the blond know how important he was to him. Through all his intense, strong and fast notes he would make him feel how special he was. It was sad knowing that everything was coming to an end. The song, their time together, their new friendship… It hurt deep down inside him, however he was happy because he had been able to know Jinguji Ren, the great playboy better. He would remember all the days they passed together always, even if Jinguji Ren didn't care about him anymore. He wanted him to understand his intentions through his actions, however even without knowing it he was allowing to all the people in that room to enter in his own world full of strong and intense emotions.
In the middle of room Ren could sense that Hijirikawa was full. Full of passion running and jumping from note to note, burning inside people's hearts; especially Ren's heart. The same heat he felt whenever Hijirikawa played was there, stronger than ever. Something in Hijirikawa's song was different, he couldn't identify what it was exactly however he could feel it deeply and strongly burning, marking his heart. He was afraid of that intense heat, of that unique feeling. He was in a dilemma right now because he wanted to understand what kind of feeling it was, yet at the same time he didn't want to. What could he do? The more he listened to Hijirikawa's song, the stronger that intense feeling would grow. His heart was intensely pounding already, and his light blue eyes were shut tight absorbing every single note Hijirikawa was giving to him. It was strange. It was good. Hijirikawa was definitely someone unique. Finally the blue haired teen finished and for a few seconds no sound was heard. However suddenly all the people inside the auditory room rose from their respective seats and began applauding frantically and happily for Masato's incredible performance. If the previous dark green haired girl had been perfect then due to all the applause of the crowd the blue haired boy had been more than perfect, because Hijirikawa Masato had been able to reach their hearts with his.
The blond rose from his seat, left the room and headed to back stage where he knew Hijirikawa would be. He wanted to see the blue haired teen to tell him how perfect he had been. No, he needed to see him, because right now he knew their hearts were connected. He could feel it. Once he arrived backstage he saw Hijirikawa being congratulated by everyone there; even the dark green haired girl from before. He felt annoyed because he wanted to be the first to congratulate him, however once he saw Hijirikawa's wonderful wide smile he ignored his feelings of selfishness and smiled as well.
"Hi-Hijirikawa" Ren called to him nervously.
Hearing Jinguji's voice, Masato quickly looked to his left side. His smile remained in his lips and he simply said as he closed their distance "Thank you Jinguji."
The blond wasn't expecting such words with such a gorgeous smile only for him, so he blushed slightly and looking away asked shyly "What the… Why are you thanking me?"
Masato was ready to answer him however a strong deep and harsh voice behind the blond caught his attention "Congratulations Masato-kun… Now let's go home."
Masato's dark blue eyes widened in shock and fear with the sudden appearance of the man.
"Fa-ther?" He said in a trembling voice. Ren quickly put himself in front of the blue haired teen as a way to protect him from everything that would come. However he was also afraid.
Oh my… Masa's father xO what will happen now?! (Masanyan T^T… *grins evily*)
