A/N: Yay! Chapter 2~! Hope you like~!
DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN POKEMON.
"Well what?" Drew asked impatiently.
Dawn started to have an argument in her head, whether or not she should tell him the truth. She bit her lip and made up her mind, hoping she wouldn't regret it.
"Are you going to tell me or what?" Drew asked again, causing Dawn to sigh.
"First, promise me you won't tell anyone. Okay?" Dawn asked nervously.
"Fine. I promise. Now tell me," Drew said.
"Okay... here goes. Remember that time when..." Dawn hesitated.
Drew raised a brow. "When what?"
"When um... Can we talk about this later?" she pleaded, giving him the best puppy dog eyes.
Drew narrowed his eyes. "Fine. But you better tell me," he said.
Dawn nodded. "I will."
The rest of the school day went by quite quickly. Dawn couldn't quite focus during class, continuously wondering whether telling Drew was a good idea.
Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Paul shooting her a glance every now and then. She directed her attention towards him curiously, only to get a glare in response. Dawn simply shrugged, going back into though.
Dawn walked out the school gates, heading to where she normally met up with Drew. A mob surrounded him, high-pitched voices hurting Dawn's eardrums. She glanced at the path she walks down, and noticed Paul walking. Dawn pursued her lips, hoping Paul didn't live anywhere near her.
"Hey," Drew greeted, startling Dawn.
She quickly greeted back. "Hiya."
"You going to tell me?" Drew asked, creating an awkward tension between the two.
"Oh... I was hoping you'd forget about that." Dawn laughed nervously, trying to get rid of the uncomfortable atmosphere.
"Dawn, why didn't you tell me?" Dawn repeated.
"You never asked?" she half-asked, half-stated.
"Great. Now what's the real reason?" he questioned.
"I..." Dawn took a deep breath. "Remember the first day we met?" Dawn glanced at Drew, and saw him nod.
"That means you already know about that assassin, right?" Dawn fidgeted with her hands behind her back as Drew nodded.
"It's... happenedmorethanonce," Dawn said really quickly, slurring her words together, not daring to look at Dre win the eyes. She felt him stiffen. "And I guess you can kind of guess the rest."
"What?" Drew asked in disbelief.
Dawn glanced around nervously. "So, yep. That's the reason. Nice talking to you. Gotta go," Dawn said, running towards her house.
"Dawn," he started, "explain this to me. Now."
Dawn stopped running, turned around, and sighed. She couldn't get away from this one, they lived in the same house. "Huh?"
"What do you mean? Why didn't you tell anyone that you were being attacked by assassins? How do you deal with them?" Drew started pacing around in the middle of the street. It was a good thing no one was around.
"Oh, haha. That's quite a lot of questions you've got there, Drew. It's always nice to be an inquirer," Dawn stalled.
Drew rolled his eyes and gave Dawn a look.
"Okay, I'll explain everything. Let's just head home, okay? We're nearly there anyway," Dawn suggested, doing anything to stall.
Drew nodded.
Paul kicked at the dirt, on his way home. Just as the key unlocked the door, he heard two voices coming in the distance. He rolled his eyes, not caring. The voices were getting louder, and the people were getting closer.
"What do you mean? Why didn't you tell anyone that you were being attacked by assassins? How do you deal with them?"
Paul froze for a moment. What in the world? he wondered.
That couldn't be right, it couldn't. Paul shook his head slightly, walking inside scowling. He slammed the door shut, and strode up to his room.
Drew was still gaping, trying to process these thoughts in his head.
She had to be joking, he thought, but she wouldn't joke about something so serious.
Drew always thought the assassin attack was a one-time thing, so he never really gave it much thought. He felt guilty, guilty that he wasn't there to protect her, guilty for not knowing.
He started to see circles, and his sense of navigation and coordination seemed to be fading. "How in the world are you so calm?" Drew yelled. He was freaking out.
Dawn turned to him. "Um..."
"I still don't get why you didn't tell anyone!" he exclaimed.
"Listen, Drew. If I told anyone, how would everyone react? I mean, you'd probably start getting super protective of me now," she reasoned.
Drew wanted to argue, but he knew she had a good point.
"And what would mum and dad think? I would put them in heaps of danger! I'm already a burden-" she continued.
Drew cut her off, "You are not a burden, alright?" Drew hated it when Dawn bad-mouthed herself. "You're family, we are all happy with you here. So don't even go and think something like that!"
She looked startled, not quite expecting that from Drew. "Sorry," she said quietly. The two reached the house, Dawn following Drew to his room.
Drew took a seat on his bed, Dawn grabbing a chair to sit across from him.
"Explain," he demanded.
"There's nothing to explain," Dawn simply said in response.
"Dawn," he warned. He hardly ever used that tone.
"What do you want to know?" she asked.
"How many times has it happened?" Drew blurted, concern heard in his voice.
Dawn hesitated. "Including the first time?" she asked.
Drew nodded. Dawn glanced around, muttering something inaudible.
"What was that?" Drew asked.
Dawn repeated herself, Drew still had trouble hearing.
"Dawn, speak up," Drew said.
"Twenty-one."
Drew's eyes widened. "Twenty-one?"
"Drew, someone's going to hear you," Dawn said, trying to quiet him down.
"But, twenty-one, that's a lot. Not once did you decide to tell anyone?"
"Um," Dawn stuttered, "No?" Her response was more of a question, rather than a statement.
"Fine. My next question is why."
"Why what?" Dawn asked innocently.
"You know what I mean. Why didn't you tell anyone?"
Dawn sighed. "Listen, if anyone found out that you kew, they probably would want to keep you quiet by using force or something," she stated, causing Drew to sigh.
That was the thing, Dawn was caring and she couldn't bear to see her friend or family get hurt.
Drew stayed quiet for a moment, most likely in deep thought.
"Like I said before, I'm kind of a bur-"
"Dawn Berlitz! Do not ever say that about yourself. You are not a burden, got it?" Drew yelled, frustrated.
Dawn was startled, to say the least. Drew was too. The words just came out of his mouth, without prior thought. Besides, he never said her full name unless it was he was really mad.
Drew furrowed his eyebrows, moving his hands around quite a bit. There was no doubt, he was debating whether or not to tell his parents.
Dawn seemed to read his mind. "Drew, please don't tell mum or dad. Or anyone for that matter," she pleaded.
"This is really dangerous," Drew said. "What if you get hurt?"
"Drew, it's not like this is the first time it's happened to me or anything. And I've been fighting them by myself. There's no need to worry," she reasoned.
"When was the last time this happened?" Drew asked.
"Last time what happened?" she asked, in attempts of avoiding the question.
"The last time you were attack by an assassin," Drew stated, trying to keep calm.
"Oh, that," she said, laughing nervously. "Yesterday."
"What?!" Drew asked in shock. "When?!"
"Well, remember how I went to your room and asked if you had ever practised self defence or martial arts or something?" Dawn asked.
Drew gave a nod. "Yeah."
"I asked you that because... yeah..." she said.
"Oh," Drew said, understanding why she spontaneously asked him that the previous day.
"You never know if someone's after you." The words ran through Drew's mind, and everything started to make sense,
"Oh, and then? What happened?" Drew inquired.
"We fought, and he left," Dawn said awkwardly.
"Oh."
The two sat there in silence until Dawn spoke up, "Drew, you're not going to tell anyone, right?"
"I'll think about it," Drew replied, in deep thought, leaving Dawn to sigh.
"I'll get going then," she said, standing up. Dawn went to her own bedroom, leaving Drew alone and in thought.
He still couldn't believe it. He couldn't believe he didn't pay enough attention to her to notice that there were assassins after her. There was no doubt he was still shocked. He couldn't believe it, nor did he want to.
What should I do? What should I do? Drew asked himself, over and over again. He continued debating in his head, before shaking his head. He decided he would think about it tomorrow, though the topic never left his mind.
Dawn throw a pillow across the room, successfully hitting the wall. She clutched her head in frustration, regretting her decision of telling Drew. She could have lied, but she felt that it wasn't fair. She was scared, scared of how others would react. She was also scared that they would get hurt.
That was the exact reason she didn't want Drew to get involved, it was life-threatening. If Drew got hurt, Dawn would never forgive herself.
She sighed, deciding there would be a whole less trouble if she had joined swimming along with May, Misty and Leaf.
Grabbing her iPod, she listened to some upbeat music to calm herself down. It actually worked quite well, and soon she got caught up in the world of music. Music was truly amazing.
There was a knock at the door, which made Dawn take out her earphones. "Come in," she called.
The door opened, revealing Sarah. Dawn inwardly panicked a little.
"Dawn, sweetie, dinner's ready," she said sweetly, though it looked like something pained her.
Dawn hurriedly followed her down the stairs to the meals table. William and Drew were already seated by the table. Dawn glanced at Drew, who had an expression she couldn't identify.
She bit her lip, wondering if Drew had told her legal guardians. She couldn't make out what they were thinking. As she walked closer to the table, the more anxious she was starting to feel.
"Dawn, we need to talk," Sarah said, the minute Dawn sat down.
A/N: Bwahahaha! I have no idea. So... I hope you liked it.
