A/N: Chapter ten~! Whooh~! Hope you like it! And yes... it's short. Dx
DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN POKEMON.
The blunette glanced anxiously at the door, as the knob was turning slowly. She fidgeted with her hands, feeling the sweat on her palms. The doorknob stopped turning, the door swiftly opening. After staring intensely at the door, Dawn sighed in relief.
Dawn got a questioning look. "What are you doing here?"
"I got lost," she replied with a sheepish smile.
"Daniel, the files." Peter directed his attention back to the person Dawn was previously talking to. Dawn subconsciously took in his features; brown hair and blue eyes.
A cream-coloured folder was handed to Peter. "Follow me," Peter said to Dawn as he walked out the door, shutting it. The two walked in silence, finally reaching their destination.
As soon as they arrived at the room, Peter closed the door and sat down.
"Have you made your decision?" he asked, listening intently for the answer.
Dawn took a deep breath, trying to maintain the confidence she had. "Yes. I'll join you."
"Are you sure?" Peter asked, making sure.
Dawn swallowed a lump in her throat. "Yes."
"Alright then. Dawn, you are now an assa-" he started, until Dawn cut him off.
"No, I'm not," Dawn said sharply.
Peter raised his eyebrows in question, amused at her behaviour.
Dawn continued, "I said I was joining you, not becoming an assassin."
A chuckle was heard in response. "Anyone with common sense would know that joining us would mean becoming an assassin."
"You never asked me to be an assassin," Dawn stated matter-of-factly.
"Then care to explain what I asked he?" He smirked, definitely amused.
"You're exact words were, Now tell me, will you join us?" Dawn said, as if reciting a poem.
"Dawn, you are very smart." He looked impressed.
"Besides, from my understanding, assassins are professional murderers. I have not murdered anyone, nor had any professional training," Dawn said.
"Alright then." He chuckled. "So, you are joining us? But you're not becoming an assassin. Correct?"
She nodded. "I'm not murdering anyone."
"Alright then. Now, Dawn, are you absolutely sure about this?" he asked seriously.
"Yes," Dawn said confidently.
They said there in silence for a while. Peter was going through the files he just got from Daniel; whereas, Dawn was just sitting there.
"So, what exactly am I supposed to do?" Dawn asked.
Peter glanced up at her, putting the files aside. "Let me tell you about Team Cresselia and Team Darkrai."
He was cut off by a fit of giggles. He raised a brow. "What is it?"
Dawn laughed. "It's just… These agencies are named after Pokemon!"
"Dawn, Pokemon are real," he said slowly.
Dawn stopped laughing. She was in shock. "Wait, Pokemon actually exist?" she asked, dumbfound.
"Of course," he replied.
"I thought it was just a game!" Dawn exclaimed.
"Back to the subject. Right now, Team Darkrai is search for a jewel. It's known as the Diamond Pearl, quite a strange name, really. The Diamond Pearl contains great power. It can summon the legendary Pokemon Cresselia and Darkrai. And with the jewel, he can control them too," he explained.
Dawn just stood there, gobsmacked. Peter spoke again, "Speaking of Pokemon, I think you'll need one."
"Me? I'm actually getting a real Pokemon? This is so amazing!" Dawn squealed, making Peter chuckle.
"Alright, follow me then." Peter stood up, leading Dawn to a lab that looked just like the ones in the game.
"I still can't believe this is actually happening!" exclaimed Dawn.
"Just like in the game, you have Pokemon teams of six. But you need to make sure no one finds out that Pokemon are real," he explained, and Dawn nodded.
He continued, "You'll start with one Pokemon. You can't find wild Pokemon, so I'll give you another Pokemon when I feel like you're ready. Now, which Pokemon do you want? You can have starter from any region."
Grabbing a dozen of spheres from his locked desk drawer, he released all the starters.
Dawn just stared in shock. "I choose the Piplup!" she chirped.
Peter nodded, returning all the Pokemon and handing over Piplup's Pokeball.
"Follow me," Peter instructed, leading Dawn to a large battle arena. "This is where you and your Pokemon will train. You will have a professional to train you in combat, but you train Piplup by yourself. This place is reserved for you, no one else."
Wide eyes staring at the field, Dawn didn't know what to say. "So this is sort of like my personal gym?" Dawn squeaked.
"That sounds about right," Peter said nonchalantly.
"Oh my gosh, thank you so much!" Dawn practically leaped onto him, happy.
"One more thing," he began.
"Yep?" Dawn responded.
Peter continued, "When in this base, call me Commander."
"Okay!"
"You'll need a codename and a different identity when you're here."
Dawn thought for a few moments. "Okay, my codename can be… um… Platinum and my identity name here can be Platina," she said, remembering the name she used before.
"Sounds good to me. Your surname can stay the same, as Berlitz isn't an unfamiliar name to this agency. Your mother was one of our best. Also, you may want to wear a disguise just in case," he suggested.
Dawn nodded, remembering seeing Paul earlier. "Um, Commander, is there someone named Paul in this agency?"
"I'm not supposed to tell you, but yes. He is my son and one of the best assassins here at the moment. Why though?"
"It's just that I know him outside of the agency," Dawn explained.
"You may want to change your personality as well then. That is, if you don't want him to recognize you," he suggested.
"Okay, I'll make sure to come here as a completely different person next time. Also, how often do I have to come here?"
"Oh, yes. Here's a piece of spy technology," Peter said, handing something to Dawn.
Dawn stared at it for a few seconds. "This is a watch…"
Peter grinned. "It's not just any watch. See this? If this glows red, I need you to report here immediately. Don't worry, I won't call you during school hours."
Seeing Dawn didn't respond, he continued, "You are welcome to come here any time, in your disguise, of course."
Dawn nodded. "Thanks! I'll get going then. My family may get worried," she said absentmindedly.
"Your family?" Peter asked with a raised brow.
"Well, I was adopted… in a way," Dawn explained awkwardly.
Peter nodded. "I almost forgot. See your pendant? This is where you can put your Pokeball." He placed Piplup's Pokeball on the pendant and it fit perfectly.
Dawn smiled. "Thanks a bunch! See you!" Glancing at the time on her new watch, she ran off.
Quickly looking at the screen of her phone, her eyes widened.
Twelve missed calls...
Dawn started panicking, doubting she'd make it back to May's house in time. After all, Drew's last phone call was about half an hour ago. She sprinted as fast as she could, climbing up the tree, just in time to see a furious Drew and a panicking May.
I'm dead, Dawn thought to herself, staring at the enraged Drew.
