"You two are going to be partners. Paul, you will train Platina," he explained, nodding in approval of what he just said.

"What?!" Paul and I exclaimed in unison.

"Well, Platina's new here and Paul is one of our most skilled," Peter said thoughtfully.

"But Pe-Commander!" Damn it, I almost let my tongue slip. Paul stared at me in curiosity. I couldn't help but feel tingly in the stomach, but I ignored it.

'There is no way I am working with him!' I wanted to screech. But I had to stay in character. I can't keep messing things up, I almost called Peter by his name. I need to do something to make my disguise more convincing.

"I do not approve of this… companionship. I believe I work better independently," I stated.

"Paul, your thoughts?" Peter looked towards Paul.

"Hn," he grunted. This attitude really annoys me, he could just say no.

"It's settled, you two are partners. You will train and attend each mission together," Peter decided.

No, just no! There is no way I can work with him, without blowing my identity. I was having an inner-panic attack, whilst I looked perfectly calm on the outside.

"You two must train at least two hours a day, five days a week," Peter informed.

Paul nods slightly and I stare at Peter blankly.

"Why don't you two go to Paul's training room and work out your training schedule," Peter suggested.

This time it was Paul who stared blankly while I meekly nodded.

Paul quickly walked off to where I assume his training room was. I had to go into a jog just to catch up.

"Mind slowing down?" I asked politely, trying to make my anger fade.

"Hn."

I ran next to him and tried to keep up with his pace.

Soon, we arrived in a room that looked almost identical to my training room.

"Training. Monday to Friday, 4-6 o'clock in the afternoon." He stated. I mentally growled in annoyance.

"That does not suit my schedule," I said calmly, although there was a slight menace evident in my voice. It was sort of like those creepy yet calm warning tones.

"Well not everything's about you," he scowled.

"Half of this is," I retorted.

"Fine. Any ideas," he sneered.

"Actually, yes," I said confidently. My only response was a raised eyebrow, telling me to continue.

"Training. Monday to Friday, 5-7 o'clock in the morning," I stated just like he did.

"Fine, whatever. Just make sure you show up," he said, more like growled. I mentally rolled my eyes. I smiled with triumph.

"Let's begin. Show me what you've got," Paul commanded. I scoffed.

"No, I just finished training. And last time I checked, it's not a weekday and it definitely isn't 5-7 o'clock in the morning. Farewell," I said, leaving a slightly surprised Paul. I inwardly smirked.

I went to the Commander's room and knocked on the door.

"Come in," a familiar voice called.

I entered the room and shut the door behind me.

"So Platina, what brings you here?" he asks.

"Why was Paul so surprised when he heard my last name was Berlitz?" I asked with genuine confusion, as well as curiosity.

"I mentioned earlier you could keep your last name because it was quite well known here." He started. I nodded.

"You're mother didn't use much of a disguise, she didn't need one. She was one of the best, very well known." He explained.

Oh right, my mum was an assassin. I still can't believe it though, how was it possible?

"Remember when she passed away?" he asked, with sympathy. I nodded. I haven't gotten over her death, but I'm not as uncomfortable talking about it as before.

"You think it was because of a fire, right?" he asked. That caught my attention. So it wasn't a fire? I nodded once again. I was starting to get even more confused.

"It wasn't. She was-" there was a knock on the door. Peter directed his attention to the door and I followed his gaze.

"Come in," Peter said.

The door opened and some person I didn't recognise entered.

"Platina. You should go," he said, with a warning tone. I meekly nodded and walked off, I'll head to May's house now. I got to a public bathroom and got out of my disguise.

What was he about to say? If my mum didn't die in a fire, then what was it? Now that I think about it, the oven was on fire but she wasn't burnt. She was sitting quite far from the fire too. She wouldn't have been affected by the fire, but what got her into that vulnerable condition?

I can't believe I didn't notice before. She wasn't killed by the fire. She must have, no. She couldn't have! My seven-year-old mind has always thought she had died in a fire, I've never suspected anything else. But the whole fire incident wouldn't make sense now that I think about it. She may have been murdered. I didn't like the thought. But she was one of the best assassins, how could someone have succeeded in killing her?

Alright, I should probably just leave this idea aside. I'll ask Peter about it, no more false theories.

I was on my way to May's house and I saw an ice-cream stand. I suddenly remembered I promised to buy May ice-cream. I went up to the stand and ordered a vanilla ice-cream with a chocolate topping.

I arrived at May's house and Max answered.

"Hi, is May at home?" I asked politely.

"May, someone's at the door for you!" he yelled up the stairs.

"Coming!" May yelled back. I heard a few crashing noises and saw May run down the stairs. I stifled a giggle.

"Dawn, hey," she greeted.

"May, could we please talk in your room?" I asked nervously.

"Um… yeah, sure," she said, leading the way to her room. She closed the door behind her and I sat on the edge of her bed. She came and sat next to me.

"Dawn, what's up?" she asked. I gave her the ice-cream and she happily accepted it.

"I promised you an ice-cream. Also, I came to apologise. I'm really sorry you sort of got into trouble with Drew. I shouldn't have put all that responsibility onto you. I'm really sorry, could you ever forgive me?" I rambled quite a bit.

"Of course!" she chirped. Well that was easier than I thought.

"Thanks so much!" I said happily and pulled her into a bear hug.

"C-can't b-breath," May squeaked.

I smiled sheepishly, "Oh, sorry."

"There's one thing I want to know," May started.

"What's that?" I asked curiously.

"Yesterday, when Drew was here. He said that he didn't know about half your life until a few days ago? What did that mean?" she asked innocently.

I opened my mouth to respond but I didn't know what to say so I shut it again. May continued.

She continued, "Also, you said something about your mother and your past, shouldn't you and Drew have the same mother if your siblings? And your past, wasn't Drew there?"

I blinked in surprise, I wasn't expecting this.

"Oh yeah, you said that you were going to go buy Drew a birthday present since his birthday was coming up soon. But Drew said his birthday wasn't for another seven months. Why did you lie? Where did you really go?" she asked.

Wow, she's going to figure me out before Drew does.

I opened my mouth to say something but May cut me off,

"And don't come up with another lie."

I sighed.

"Alright May, I'm telling you this because I trust you. This can cost my life or even yours. Are you sure about this?" I said seriously.

May looked taken back. A look of thought crossed her face and she nodded.

"Okay, so this is what happened…" I started.
