Chapter 131
.
Over the month of April 2034 Eve noticed when the government took certain measuers. They siezed colonel Samuel's shelters, arrested most of his militia. Some militia people backed up the government's version of events, Amy theorized they'd begranted access to this shelter. When militants in Saudi Arabia took American military hostage Mason ordered certain camps bombed. Mason said they were terrorist training camps, Saudi authorities claimed they were peaceful religious schools. These actions made Eve uneasy, but most Americans supported their president. And why not, he had saved them all from ELE. But was it a coincidence that he said this after the Arks were completed? Now they were just gathering food and oil for them as a precaution. But Eve was far from alone in her uneasiness. The Sons of Liberty denounced some of Mason's policies. And on April 22nd, general Douglas also criticized Mason in an interview. Mason has some powerful detractors.

After Febuary 4th there had been certainly been an increase increase in sins. People had done drugs, committed adultery, even suicide. Their logic had been that they wouldn't be around long enough to suffer the consequences. Now, they worried aout the future. Marriages that involved infidelity now had to re-examine if they could make it work. Those who did drugs would often be recovering addicts, at best, for the rest of their lives. The same could be said of those who became alcoholics. Eve regretted taking up smoking, she vowed to once again try and quit this summer. Many had come to religion, particularly christianity and islam. Some would abandon those now, but others would stick with it. At any rate all of those people could at least try to live with their new situation and adjust. But for the people who had ended their own lives, for them it was too late. The first family seemed to have been an inspiration. Some called the first lady a pioneer. Many presidents had committed adultery, some were less secret about this than others. But Sharon Mason was the first first lady to openly have an affair. Eve wouldn't have thought this was a glass ceiling that women wanted to break through. Zoey Allen marked the first time the vice-president's daughter had openly had an abortion. At Eve's school it was clear that both teen pregnancies and abortions had high rates. Some even considered abortion to be a rite of passage. Others, girls as young as 14, were openly trying toget pregnant. Eve looked back at some of the choices that she'd made. She admitted that there were mistakes. Smoking, losing her virginity, informing on Amy. But she still believed that, for the most part at least, she had acted morally.
