Chapter 134

.

On Saturday May 13th Eve went with Nadia to their mosque. Afterwords Nadia began talking once again about her plans to go to Sangala, as a relief worker this summer.

.

Nadia: So, have you given any thought to coming with me, helping with their reconstruction?

Eve: I'm thinking about it. But to be honest, that place still scares me.

Nadia: It worries me too. But, with the fighting over, that country needs help more than ever.

Eve: Do you really believe Allah wants you over there?

Nadia: I like to think so. I'm sure he wants me to help those in need. As for specifics, he leaves that up to us.

Eve: Reconstruction is weird. People are looking back at their choices with regret. You're lucky that your prents never cheated.

Nadia: They have each other, and their faith. Sometimes my night terrors were so bad I had to sleep with them.

Eve: My dad, I think he's filled with regret over cheating on my mom. Karen however has become even more of a, I guess I should say "the B word."

Nadia: Guil, shame, they can be hard.

Eve: Like you'd know. Karen has actually joined a class action lawsuit. It's being filed on behalf of women who had abortions or families of those who committed suicide. They're saying these things never would've happenned if Mason hadn't told the world about ELE.

Nadia: I haven't always agreed with president Mason, but those people made their own choices.

Eve: Yeah. Karen's just trying to make sure she doesn't have to work. Anyway, I think you're right. I don't know about Sangala, but I will try to figure out what Allah wants me to do.

.

On Monday May 15th Eve was at Ravenwood, watching news coverage of the congressional hearings. Right now they were covering the protestors outside congress. The protestors didn't seem particularly organized. All that united them was their disagreement over Mason's policies. Some said Mason never should've told the world about ELE. They blamed him for the increased abortions, rapes, spousal abuse, and suicides. Others felt he should've followed North Korea's model. They had suppossedly built better shelters because their people were used to living on less food and being told what to do at gunpoint. And ofcourse there were those who said ELE was a hoax, a move to force the nations of the world to work together. If that was the plan, it didn't seem to have worked, and Mason apparently abandoned it when things fell apart, specifically after a suitcase nuke was detonated in Illinois. The protestors weren't united, each group just trying to scream the loudest for the cameras.
