Chapter 139
.
When Eve got home Karen wasn't there. Perhaps that was for the best. Eve went to her room and examined her gun. She could imagine putting a bullet into Karen's heart, where it belonged. She knew that Murphy would never betray an informant, but it all made sense now. Officer Murphy knew that Eve hadn't smoked a ciggarette before Febuary 4th. He knew that Eve went hunting with Amy, but not that they were dating. And now it seemed that Karen tried to get Eve killed. After all that bitch did to Eve's family, and now this. It was clear that Karen only cared about herself. She'd gotten pregnant to earn more chances. Then she'd aborted her child when it became inconvenient. Now she was trying to sue the government for her own stupidity. Eve was going to enjoy sending that bitch to Hell. Eve stood in front of her bedroom mirror, pointing the gun at her reflection. Karen would finally pay, for stealing Eve's father from her, for killing Cujo. But as she waited Eve had time to think. Karen and Zack killed Cujo because they couldn't spare the food. Karen tried to be an informant because she valued her own life ahead of everyone else's. But wasn't that what Eve had done. She'd gotten involved with RJ to ensure her own survival, likely taking food from others who needed it. And Eve had become an informant, even against Amy, to avoid prison. As much as Eve hated Karen, it seemed she hated herself just as much. When Eve calmed down she put her gun away. If she ever expected Amy's forgiveness, she should forgive those who'd wronged her.
