Chapter 144

.

After her initial instict of flight wore off Eve realized she had nowhere to go. Her parents were oth dead, Nadia would advise Eve to turn herself in. Maybe the Sons of Liberty would help. They were believed to hide certain fugitives from the police. But Amy might tell them what she'd done, or even tell the authorities. After walking until sunset Eve found herself near the highway. A motel was within eyesight. Eve had enough money for at least one night, not much bloo on her, hopefully she could hide it from the clerk. Maybe she could think of a plan if she had just one night to think. Eve tried to remember the countdown. 768 days left, if the missles failed. Right now, that seemed too long to wait.

Eve sat in her motel room, with the gun in her hand. She had washed the blood off, but she couldn't erase the past. There was nowhere to go, the police would find her eventually. There were really only two options, arrest, or death. Eve remembered what Nadia had said, the first night they met. It was better to suffer temporarily in this world, than to suffer forever in Hell. This made sense, maybe Allah would even forgive Eve if she accepted man's punishment. But the thought of prison, the shame of admitting what she'd done. That terrified Eve more than Hell. She had paid for tonight, had enough for tomorrow night. Enough food, or money for food, to last until Thursday. Eve only had until then to decide what to do. Unless the police found her first.
