Chapter 147
.
The arrangements were quickly made. It was already past midnight. Eve just signed a piece of paper, she didn't even have to stand before a judge and officially plead guilty. Murphy brought Eve to her home to retrieve a few things. She'd be leaving for Texas early in the morning. She was allowed to pack a few things, but it quickly became obvious that the police had been here. They'd outlined where the bodies had been, but they were gone. Eve knew she had done this, made her home into a crime scene. After her mother died, even though she died here, it had never occurred to them to move. In a way it had still provided Eve with some sense of comfort. Now, they were all gone. Both of her parents, Cujo, Adam. Eve murdered a woman in this room. And yet, Eve still wanted to feel safe in this place. But now, that was over. Whatever happenned next, this place would never feel like home again.
Eve packed some clothes, a few books, includint the Koran. Murphy promised the rest of her things would be kept in storage until she was released. He also promised Eve donuts and juice on the way to the airport, but they had to leave. Before they drove off Nadia came to see Eve. Murphy gave the five minutes to say goodbye.
.
Nadia: I wanted to make sure you were okay, I saw the police were here, they questioned me. I told them I didn't think you would hurt your family.
Eve: Thank you. I think my dad killed himself, and I murdered Karen.
Nadia; My God. Did she try to hurt you?
Eve: I thought she killed him, I was probably wrong. Anywat they're sending me to Texas. Some kind of juvenile prison labor program. They're still preparing the Arks, just in case.
Nadia: I'll miss you, be safe.
Eve: Thanks. Am I damned, Nadia?
Nadia: I don't think so. You have much penance ahead of you. But I have faith that you can do it.
Eve: Thanks. I'll write to you. Try and keep in touch. I'll try to have faith that Allah will give me the strength to do this.
Nadia: Good, and I'll try to keep in touch. Take care my friend.
Eve: Take care, friend.
