Chapter 150

.

Eve was so glad to be out of her cell, she almost forgot she was still in prison. She got to shower, eat a regular meal with other poeple. After breakfast the guards brought Eve to her shift with other new recruits. They seemed as dazed by the sunlight as Eve. Maybe throwing new convicts into solitary confinement was standard practice for colonel Park. The instructor schooled the recruits in oil drilling, specifically their individual functions. Eve knew she had to learn quickly. Park might be stuck with her, but if she wasn't useful she might be thrown back into solitary. One thing that hadn't changed with ELE being stopped, Eve still had to adapt quicky to survive. Much of Eve's first day on the oil rig was spent learning to use the machinery. The supervisors seemed angry, but they were good at this stuff. Eve hadn't factored in the hot Texas sun, but tried not to complain. At some point they handed out sandwiches with water for lunch. The officers continued to talk as the workers ate. By the end of the day the workers were just beginning to use the machinery. After that the shift was over. The workers were sent to the showers. Eve was uncomfortable with the guards being there while she showered. Then dinner, not much time to talk to her new co-workers, but at least she wasn't alone. After dinner the prisoners were brought back to their cells. Eve asked when se was working again, the guards said something.
