It's been months since he did it. Since he broke up with Zatanna. But you see, to him it was necessary. To her it was something that they could have lived with out. Now Zatanna has become more like Batman. She's quiet and a bit stiff. Only because of the fool who decided to leave her for his best friend. But she doesn't blame him. It's not his fault. It's hers. She didn't stop him. She let him walk away from her. And she allowed herself to be silent and brooding. But she can't really help it. It just happened. All of this did.
"Team, report to the mission room." Ordered a voice over the intercom in her room that was housed by the watch tower due to the explosion of Mount Justice.
Sighing, Zatanna got off the comfy bed and grabbed her mask off her desk, then made her way to the main room of the watch tower that happened to be the mission room as well.
The young, ex-magician had changed greatly over the years. Her hair was still deep ebony, but it was now naturally wavy. Her eyes were still a gorgeous blue, but they don't hold the sparkle they once possessed. True she was now taller and had filled out, but she felt the same as she had for the last few months. She felt he chest pang with hurt every time she saw Batgirl or Nightwing. But it hurt worse now because she didn't even have her best friend to confide in. Artemis was dead. And wally was distraught. But she loved Wally as a brother and she would always visit and give him company.
Of course her costume remained the same and she was okay with that. She didn't really like change. She liked the way it was before that tragic day. The day her heart was broken into a thousand itty bitty pieces. But se was not only mourning the loss of Artemis, she was also mourning Kate. The FlashWing had perished in a battle with Klarion the Witch Boy. And the issue was that she had died saving Nightwing. And he didn't even throw her corpse a sideways glance. It infuriated her.
Hey, Zee!" Called Bart.
Zatanna whipped her head around to see the future speedster who was like Wally in so many ways. She didn't mind him, his company allowed her to feel like she used to when she was fourteen years old. She gave him the best smile she could manage. "Hello, Bart."
He smiled his bright smile. "So what do you think they want us for this time?"
"Dunno. I just know I need to beat something up." Zatanna stated.
Bart nodded his head. "Yeah, that sounds crash, but don't you think we might just need to have a break and get a steak out or something?"
Zatanna shrugged. "I guess, but that's not as entertaining."
Little did she know that this one would be just what she needed.
