Chapter 160
.
Eve thought about what they had said. She wasn't too suprised that Amy still had militia contacts. She couldn't blame her. Mason's people sent her to this place for her political beliefs without even a trial. Eve didn't want any part of that anymore, but she couldn't tell colonel Park what she'd heard. Eve also thought about what Jessie said. Was that really what he thought of her? What everyone thought about Eve? That she was nothing more than an opportunist who just used people to help herself whenever it was convenient. The worst part was she wasn't even sure that Jessie was wrong.
When Eve went to sleep on July 13th a part of her expected to be woken up early on Friday. But she did not expect to be woken up so suddenly, or violently. It was early, all the lights were out. Eve recognized this guy, Paul, a fellow prisoner and patient in the clinic. Paul was attacking Eve, on top of her in the hospital bed. Eve tried to fight back, yelled for help. Paul said, Maggie's right, have to purge it out now!" Eve had no idea what he was talking about, he seemed insane. Eve tried to fight Paul off, but he was too strong. Fortunately the guards came. They hit Paul on the head with nightsticks and dragged him away. Eve was very grateful that they protected her before Paul could rape her. This was the first time she appreciated these guards.
After the attack Eve was brought for a check-up. There was only one doctor on duty, he was watching the news. There was breaking news about Israel attacking Pakistan. They dropped nerve-gas into numerous Arks, killing both Israeli and Pakistani workers. This situation was expected to escalate soon. Eve didn't recognize this doctor, but he cleared Eve to work today. Before the doctor let her leave colonel Park came to see her.
.
Park: Hello Eve. I hope you're okay.
Eve: Yeah, I'm fine. The doctor cleared me to work today.
Park: Good. My security measures are designed to prevent this sort of prisoner against prisoner violence. That becomes difficult to enforce in the clinic.
Eve: I understand. Paul said something about "Maggie" and wanting to "purge it out now." What does that mean?
Park: Maggie is a cult leader. I don't know much about her, except that suffice it to say there will always be dangerous cult leaders.
Eve: Yeah, he seemed insane.
Park: I do take the safety of my workers seriously. Before he was sent here Paul raped and murdered at least one woman, probably more. If you feel he is too dangerous to be around, we can protect you. I just need you to sign something.
Eve: Sign what?
Park: Just a document, detailin what he did to you, what you feel he tried to do. And we will make sure to keep him isolated from the general population.
.
Eve read the document that colonel Park handed her. It was completely truthful. That Paul attacked Eve in her sleep, that she believed he planned to rape her. Eve knew what Park might do to Paul, but she didn't care. Eve signed this document.
