Chapter 166

.

When Eve woke up on Sunday, she eagerly went to breakfast. She hoped that she'd slept through Park's announcement. But no, the other prisoners were upset, and worried. Amy sat next to Eve.

.

Amy: Rumor is the missles failed, ELE was too hard to drill through.

Eve: I'm really hoping that's not true.

Amy: You know I'm a wolf right?

Eve: I thought I made it clear that I didn't want to know about your activities.

Amy: You know Lee?

Eve: If you mean the guard, not well.

Amy: He's a wolf too. Anything happens to me, he can help you.

Eve: Why are you telling me this?

Amy: You could've turned me in earlier, you didn't. Stuff is about to happen, you'll have to choose a side. And I really hope you choose ours.

.

Eve wondered, why did Amy have to tell her these things. That a guard was allied with the rebels, that was valuable intel. Eve could tell colonel Park, solidify her position as an informant. But that would mean losing Amy forever. If Eve said nothing, she would essentially be choosing Amy over Park. Maybe Amy wanted to get back together, that she was testing Eve. Maybe Lee wasn't even a wolf. Would Amy really trust Eve with this intel, given her previous betrayel, if it were true? Eve contemplated this during her shift on Sunday. After her shower the guards said she was wanted in Park's office. It seemed she had to make a choice, she couldn't remain neutral forever. As they got to the office Eve was hit by the sudden cold air full blast. After being in the hot Texas sun in July all day, this felt good. Park was eating french fries and soda. If he offerred any to Eve, he'd expect something in return.

.

Park: Do you have information Eve?

Eve: Yeah, the prisoners are worried that ELE is still coming. Between that, and the heat, people are angry.

Park: Any information, I don't already know?

Eve: There are tensions between christian and muslim workers. I heard the guards say that if anything goes down, they'll use brutal force. I'm scared I could get caught in the crossfire.

Park: That's your problem. Murphy seems to have exxagerated your skills because so far you've told me nothing useful since you arrived.

Eve: I'm sorry. Amy might've told people I was a snitch, she didn't take our break-up well.

Park: I suggest you find something soon. Because right now, you're only chance of getting into an Ark is to prove your loyalty, and your usefulness. Your ex-girlfriend's co-conspirators might not trust you, but she might still have feelings for you.

Eve: I understand sir. I'll do what I can.

.

After meeting with Park Eve went to dinner. Seeing this "food" a part of her wished she had given in to temptation. She sat next to Amy and they spoke quietly.

.

Amy: Did you inform on me to commandant Park?

Eve: No. But he knows, or at least strongly suspects, that you're a wolf.

Amy: He could've heard that anywhere.

Eve: Park definitely seemed to think that ELE's still coming, and he's not concerned with hurting prisoners.

Amy: Yeah. With limited space on the Arks he doesn't want too many criminals onboard. I appreciate you telling me these things.

Eve: Just be careful, I don't want to see you get hurt.

Amy: Be careful too. Par won't like it if he knows you told me.

Eve: I know, but I had to help you. I never stopped caring about you.
