Hi guys! An update a week, that's what I'm going for. Here's a little peek into Ferb's head after all that. Oh, and just saw It's No Picnic, which I do have opinions on, but I am putting an alert on here.
*SPOILER ALERT* I wanted to watch without shipper goggles, but I just CAN'T. So EVERYBODY in the gang is busy, except Phineas and Isabella, so they're forced to have a boring old picnic, which for the record, Phineas doesn't seem too thrilled about. Anyways, Isabella finally has alone time with Phineas... except literally the only frickin' thing he can talk about is Ferb! What the...? And apparently, Phineas can't even have Big Ideas without Ferb... Meanwhile, Isabella is on an overload of happiness, and has to keep slapping herself to stay sane. But, of course, Doof's plot leads to Isabella accidentally snuggling Ferb and Phineas getting a big idea AS SOON AS Ferb gets there. Again, what the...? And once again, Ferb tries to apologize to Iz even though he's done nothing wrong! Motherf*cker, this was like fan fiction gone wild, and for the first time ever, I think I just saw Phinerb, like, real Phinerb. So what the heck now? Ferb loves Isabella who loves Phineas, who is like, obsessed with Ferb. CURSE YOU, LOVE TRIANGLES! That's what I got out of it anyway. Also, the Fireside Girls kidnap Irving and probably kill him.
I was insane. Crazy. Manic. Take your pick. I never even remotely thought I would get to the point where I would be doing any of this, yet, here I was, practically breaking in doors. And she was staring at me, like I had completely cracked.
"Ferb?"
"We need to talk, Vanessa." I sighed.
"It's her, isn't it?" Vanessa said softly. "Isabella."
I just didn't know what to say, but I found myself saying, "Yes."
She smiled. "Oh Ferb. You took this long to realize it? Even while I was accusing and abusing the poor girl?" I half-smiled and nodded. "Yeah. I like you, kid, but 'Us' is never going to work." She joked.
"How could it, when we're BOTH in love with other people?" I asked.
She winced. "Ferb…"
"Vanessa, you've met the love of your life. Don't let him get away, because, speaking from experience, it's very hard to get them back."
Ah… I stretched myself out, as the sun just barely shone into the bedroom. I didn't quite feel like waking up yet. I turned onto my side and resumed my earlier activity of lightly drawing ambiguous patterns on Isabella's bare legs. Everything I had done yesterday was so incredibly crazy and out of character for me that I had no idea what the consequences would be. Honestly, I didn't care.
Isabella began stirring gently next to me. "Good morning." I said softly.
She sat up abruptly. "Ferb!" She took a minute to adjust herself. We were only in our undergarments. "Oh my gosh, last night, we… we…"
"Uh-huh." I said, as I kissed the back of her hand.
Isabella, for the first time in a very long while, blushed violently. It was positively adorable. I'm all for a headstrong and assertive girl, but at the same time, it was fun to see Isabella become shy.
Suddenly, she lost her timidity and snatched her hand away. "Ferb!" She said, in a shocked tone. "I can't believe you! You have a girlfriend!"
"Had." I corrected.
"Oh my god, I actually slept with someone else's man! What's the matter with me? I'm not even innocent at all, I knew you and Vanessa are a couple!" She ranted.
"Were." I corrected again.
"I feel so bad… had? Were?" She said slowly.
I nodded.
"You… you broke up with her?" Isabella realized slowly.
I had my head propped up with one hand. I couldn't help smiling a little.
"What? WHY? Ferb, she's your dream girl! She's always been your dream girl." Isabella said.
"Dreams change." I said softly. I glanced at her. Her eyes opened wide for a minute, but then she looked away and started blushing again. I sighed to myself. Didn't she realize that I was one hundred percent in this now? There shouldn't be anything in the way. Yet, Isabella seemed more guarded than ever.
"Okay… okay…" She shook off her initial reaction. "Why...?" I knew what she wanted to ask. She wanted to know exactly why I came here after making her cry and breaking up with Vanessa. And I would tell her; I am in love with her. But, she didn't finish the question. She instead started a new one altogether. "What happened? How did you break up?" She asked, probably the same way she would ask her girlfriends. "With details."
"There aren't a lot of details." I said simply. "I told her that this relationship would never work."
She raised an eyebrow at me. "That's it? It just 'wouldn't work'?"
"How could it, when we're BOTH in love with other people?" I said, moving closer to her.
"Umm… umm… br… breakfast!" Isabella stammered, almost falling off the bed. Well, it turns out I'm just as capable at getting her flustered as she is with me.
She stood up. I caught her wrist before she could leave. I sat all the way up. "What now?" I asked. I saw goose bumps all over her and I remembered we were half-dressed.
"Now, umm… we go eat some food and…"
"Isabella," I interrupted. "What now?" I asked sternly. What now? Are we finally together? Can we tell our sneaky friends that? Or is this something she wants to erase, and something she regrets? If she regrets it, I'll regret it all for the rest of my life.
"I don't know." She said honestly.
I let go of her hand, and she walked out. I covered my face with my hands. How many times do I have to kiss her for her to realize anything? Has she forgotten her drunken oath or her crazy attempts to seduce me? Has she forgotten about dancing in the kitchen or accidental handcuffing? What do I have to do? The "more than Phineas" thing doesn't matter anymore. Then, something Isabella once said came to me.
"I'm scared. Of change. Of… of being loved. I don't think I'm ready for things to change between me and… and…"
Me. I have to leave her be for a little while. She was upset over her breakup, even if she didn't love Phineas anymore. I sighed. It's okay. As long as it takes, I'd wait. I was good at that.
"Ferb… you want something?" Isabella called.
I went out into her kitchen and poured myself some juice. She had a robe on and stood there with a mug of coffee. She yawned.
"Tired?" I asked, as I sat down.
"A little." She replied. "Are you?"
"No." I said. I really wasn't. I felt some sort of adrenaline keeping me at full power.
She nodded. "So, are you going to miss her?"
"What?" I asked.
"Are you going to miss Vanessa?" She asked gently.
"Well, we can still be…" I made a face. Could we really be friends? I was never really her friend. I had only thought of her romantically, period.
"You can still be friends." Isabella completed.
"No, we can't." I said. "She's really more Candace's friend than mine."
"Well, now that it's not a crush anymore, can you tell me why you fell in love with Vanessa? You know, like what you asked me about Phineas?" She asked sassily.
"Well…" I thought for a moment. "She was pretty."
Isabella's mouth dropped open. "That's it?" I nodded, shamefaced. "Ferb!" She laughed. "That's worse than my Phineas story! Who knew you were so superficial?"
"It wasn't like I went after every pretty girl!" I responded.
"Huh. So, our long unrequited love stories were actually… really stupid, weren't they?" Isabella said.
I nodded. "Because, at that point, I don't think we knew what love really was." I said seriously. We were quiet for a long time.
"Ferb?"
"Yes." I turned anxiously to Isabella.
"I think we'd both feel a little more… relaxed… if we had our clothes on."
"Right!" I said immediately. Shit, I had completely forgotten. How was I supposed to make her feel comfortable if I was walking around with no pants?
She went into her room and threw my clothes to me, then shut the door. I started putting them back on.
"Ferb?" I could hear her through her door. "I think we need to talk to Vanessa."
"What! Why!"
"Because," She sighed. "She's unhappy. All we need to do is talk to her, then talk to Monty…"
"Isabella, we need to stop with the matchmaking." I said.
"But we're really good at it!" She said, as she opened the door, wearing a typically Isabella pink dress. I stared at her quizzically. "I just, I think I want them to be together, and happy, and… you saw them at the party!" I nodded. "What can I say? I'm a romantic."
"Me too." I said. "Okay, we'll do it. But this is the last time."
"But what about Adyson and Buford? I know Katie needs a…"
"Last time." I said sternly.
"Okay." She smiled. "Time for you to go." She scooted me towards the door, and opened it. "Bye-bye."
"Isabella," I grabbed her hand again. "And we need to talk. About us."
"About us?" She mumbled. "I don't know wh-"
"Yes, you do." I said firmly. "Ok?" She nodded very gently. "Bye."
