As the duel began some students watched intently while others merely gave passing glances to Jay. Jay had a lot of wonder about his Aunt Carmel. " How can she be so cruel to me? Okay, Jay. Take a deep breath." Jay put two fingers on his throat. He took a deep breath in and out. Carmel, who

thought the way Jay was breathing was completely pathetic, smirked. " Since you're the rookie here, you get to go first, Jay."

" Thanks, Aunt Carmel."

" Call my Aunt one more time, you're going to lose a finger."

Jay nodded and drew his card. After a short analysis of his current hand, he played a Spell Card from his hand. The round headed monster Sasuke Samurai was on it cutting through four cards.

" Hand Destruction. With this card we…"

" I know what the card does!" Carmel interrupted. Jay was instantly silent. His father warned him that once Carmel got snippy, you better calm the "fuck" up or

she will, and shall hunt you down and "castrate" you." Must you announce every minor detail? We both send two cards from our hand to the Graveyard and then we draw two cards from our deck's. Your father taught you to play, didn't he?"

Jay nodded his head. He picked two cards in the middle of his hand and shoved them into his Graveyard. Carmel took two cards from her far right and shoved them into her Graveyard. Both Jay and Carmel picked up two cards from the top of their decks.

" I'll summon Alexandrite Dragon (2000/100)."

Alexandrite possesses a blunt round head. On the side of his head he has a small light eye. Befitting his name, he has a metallic shine on his entire body. Both his neck and arms are covered in shining rocks. His wings also possess the same shinny rocks.

" I must say, your monster is very cute, Jay?" Carmel said. Jay took this in a pleasing manor. He rubbed the back of his head and smiled. . " Thank you Aunt—I mean, thank you Carmel."

" I hate cute. I know how I must seem stereotypically. I'm a woman who acts like she hates her nephew for what his father did to me. Granted, I am very pissed off at your father, in fact the next time I see him I'll punch him in the dick until its dead, but that doesn't mean I hate you, Jay."

That last comment was so chilly, it made winter feel more like summer. There was nothing Jay could do at the moment, so he decided the best thing to do was play something defence in the meantime. In the end, he found a Trap. " I'll set one card face-down and End Turn."

Carmel didn't draw. There was already six cards in her hand, even when they started the duel, and Jay thought it was completely unfair. When she saw what she had, she smiled.

" As you already know, Jay, my favorite monsters are Light-type monsters. I play the Spell Card Photon Lead." A ball of light seemed to build from the floor upwards, a low murky shape that stood out from the darkness with a definition of its own. Jay staggered back. As it rose, first to the eight of Jay's waist and then taller, it seemed to grow outwards as well. A spiky silver haired woman appeared. The woman was cladded silver armor and carried a sword in her right hand.

" What just happened?" Jay shouted. " How did your monster appear?"

" What do they teach you at school?" Carmel asked. Her tone sounded like " What A Dumbass". " Oh, that's right, you were home schooled? Anyways, Photon Lead is a Spell card that allows me to Special Summon one Level 4 or lower Light Monster Card from my hand. And since this is A Special Summon, I can summon again."

" What? How can you do that?"

" Ugh. Special Summons do not take up the player's Normal Summon/set for the turn, and there is no restriction on the number of times they can be performed in a turn. Get it now?"

" Yeah, I guess."

" Good. This is Jain. If you're ever a student at this school you'll have to remember, it will be on a test. Of course you'll have to get into the Academy first. Sorry, Jay, but I can't let you let anarchy run in our perfect school. I tribute Jain to Summon Celestia, Lightsworn Angel 2300/200!"

Jain rose from the floor and flew into the ceiling. She was sucked through the ceiling as two giant wings floated down. When the wings touched the stadium, a woman appeared. The woman was wearing silver armor similar to Jain's, but she has blue hair, luscious red lips, and two giant wings sticking out her back.

" I'm truly sorry for this, Jay. By Tribute Summon Celestia with another Lightsworn, I send the top four cards of my deck to the Graveyard, and destroy two cards on the field. I choose your Alexandrite and your face-down."

Alexandrite exploded into a million pixels. Jay's face-down also exploded into a million pixels. Every people in the stands were gripping the handle bars of the railings, except for the one's wearing blue uniforms who just slacked off and watched the duel without any interest.

" Mirror Force? I didn't expect a rookie duelist like you to have that card.

However, if you wanted to keep it you should have set another card face-down. "

" A-Are you really giving me advice Aun…Ant Carmel?"

" Indeed I am. Heed these words, Jay. These will help you out for next year exams. I play the Spell Card Double Summon."

" Double Summon?" Most of the kids in the stands whispered.

" You don't think…" He was tall and had short blue hair, his playful green eyes looking down at the duel before him. His friend whom he was talking to was shortspiky brown hair, his cobalt eyes wondered to the duel.

" This kids a goner."

" Imbecile's," Ciel thought watching those two boys with his one eye. " They don't know what he's carded."

Carmel summoned her second monster. He was dressed like Jain and Celestia, his dark spiky blue hair shined like Celestia's wings, his abs were shown through the armor as the girls gawked at his muscular chest, and he carried a white axe with a gray blade with both hands.

" Jay, meet my monster, Garoth, Lightsworn Warrior (1850/1300). Tell me, nephew-boy, with Celestia and Garoth on my field how much Attack Points will they havetogether?"

Jay was good at Math. He could do any Math problem except Trig. He had problem's understand it's concepts. Like he also didn't understand how a hundred years agoLeucippus and his pupil Democritus came up with the idea that matter is composed of tiny particles or what soap opera Aunt Carmel watches. He figured out theanswer. " 4150."

" Correct. You are going to lose: my 4150 overpowers your 4000 Life Points.

Garoth, attack!"

Garoth attacked Jay with multiple jabs. Blood seeped from Jay's body. They weren't real blood. It was all in Jay's head. Real blood wouldn't show up in the holographic images, yet he could feel the blood rushing to his head. He looked sorely at his Aunt Carmel.

Jay: 2150

Carmel: 4000

" And now we end this duel to your factitious academy. There is no easy way into the academy, Jay. You're not ready for this. You're still just a kid. One last piece of advice. Remember that song you use to sing when you were a child? That song…It's terrible. Don't ever sing it to a girl you like. Celestia, finish him!"

Celestia charged at Jay. She conquered two balls of white light. She threw the white projectiles at Jay. Before her balls could hit Jay, a figure wearing a red mask with wayward long white hair appeared in front of Jay. The balls bounced off the figure's chest.

" Huh? What is that?"

Jay made his finger into a gun and pointed it at Carmel. He pretended to pull the trigger and shot at her. " This is my buddy, Necro Guardna. By removing him from my Graveyard I can negate one of your attacks."

" B-But I never sent him there."

" I know. I did. When I played Hand Destruction, Necro Guardna was one of the monsters I sent. To be honest, I did it so I could protect Alexandrite for a Tribute Summon, but this works out just fine."

" Hmmm. Y'know, Jay. You remind me even more of your father. I end my turn."

It was Jay's turn. He drew one card from the top of his deck. His Aunt Carmel had a monster with 2300 ATK and a monster with 1850 ATK points. Nuo only had one monster, not strong enough to take on any of her monsters by itself, maybe could take them down with a little enhancement.

" I Summon The Battle Ox (1700)

Jay summoned a monster. He charged through the walls and rushed to Jay's side. He was a brown minotaur, protected in red armor, a red helmet on his head. His eyes were red and his face was vicious. The minotaur twirled an axe over its head.

" The Battle Ox?" Carmel said. " I didn't think anyone used that monster anymore. And what do you think you're going to do with him, nephew boy?"

" Use a Spell. I play the Spell Card Horn of the Unicorn."

Battle Ox froze. A long horn stuck out of his head. The horn glowed yellow, blinded the eyes of most people in the stadium except Ciel and a few other students. The brown minotaur roared to the ceiling. Battle Ox (2400)

"Horn of the Unicorn increases one monster equipped with it by seven hundred attack points. Now, your monsters are weak. Battle Ox, attack her Celestia!"Battle Ox smacked his right hoof against the ground three times. He then leaped from the concrete and rushed towards Celestia. The angel-Lightsworn held her staff up to defend herself, but it was no use. Both of her arms were sliced off,she exploded into a million pixels. Carmen was undaunted by her monster being gone.

" You think you're so smart, nephew boy?" Carmel said. " I could have easily blocked your attack and finished you this turn."

" Then why didn't you?"

" Because, I'm not done testing you. Right now, I'm your teacher. " I set three cards face-down and end my turn."

Jay: 2150

Carmel: 3900

It was Carmel's turn. The sphere in her central duel disk emitted a red glow as a card popped out of the top. Carmel loved it. Carmel picked up a card from her deck; it was hard because everyone was cheering for Jay. He makes one good move and everyone's on his side? Carmel could see it in Jay's—egotistical. Jay was just like his father—a swine.

" I Summon Lumina, Lightsworn Summoner ( 1000/1000)."

Garoth and Battle Ox looked into the sky. The transparent image of an angel descended. Her voice echoed throughout the stadium. " You have come far, Garoth. I must confess to having had my doubts when you became Guardian in my stead. But its inhabitants' continued peace and safety is proof of your devotion. When Carmel Major bade me, ' Lumina, take Garoth as your apprentice', I never imagined I would see you bloom so."

The angel touched the stadium floor. She was a magnificent beauty. Her hair was short but bright blonde. She wore a tunic adorned with gems around her waist, and a tiara with an emerald stone around her neck. Her hands had two incarnations; two purple spell sealing's.

Carmel spoke...

" With my Lumina's special ability, I can send one Monster Card from my hand to the Graveyard and Special Summon a Level 4 or lower ' Lightsworn' in my Graveyard. I summon my Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress ( 1700/ 200)."

Lumina spoke in a Celtic tongue. Jay found it difficult to understand her at first, but the words appeared in his mind, like a feather landing in water. " I summon thee, Lyla of the Sorceress, come to me." Something extraordinary happened. Two small balls of yellow light rose from Lumina's hands. They fell to the ground, and Lyla the Sorceress appeared. She was a bright skinned, dark charcoal hair woman. A tiara was wrapped around her head, carrying a golden staff. She looked like a priestess with white robes over her body, a knight with gold chainmail, and a princess; pure dark eyes that seemed not easily stirred or moved in feeling.

The priestess smiled.

" Hahh...Hahh...Don't ever get old, my dear Garoth. You don't ever want to get old."

" I can switch Lyla from Attack mode to Defence mode to destroy one Spell orTrap card on your side of the field. I choose your Horn of the Unicorn."

Lyla kneeled down on one knee and clapped her hands toward. Her body glowed bright when she did it, a laser beam was fired from her staff and went towards Jay's card. Without Battle Ox, there was no hope Jay could win. Before Carmel destroyed his card...

" I activate my face-down!"

Jay loses.

Jay: 2150

Carmel: 3900

Jay should have lost. With Carmel's Lyla's incantation, and Jay having no cards in his hand, and the cards in Carmel's hand, there would be no way for her to lose-she was impervious to her nephew's cards.

Then why...Why did he have that card? Imprinted on that face-down he flipped was the picture of a typhoon. No, it was not Mystical Space Typhoon. This typhoon was green, and had the appearance of a glowing dragon, swaying its neck as if to mock her.

The students were silent. None of them, not one of those students had ever seen a card like that before. Even Ciel was surprised. Jay's card had that tribal-like red marking in the printing. Ciel was sweaty. This wasn't a usual sweat, one someone found from stress or change in session. This was an enthusiastic sweat.

'' I want it...''

'' I activate Geha of the Gale Storm Typhoon,'' Jay said. '' I can remove one face-up card from anyone's side of the side, but the effects of it will stay until the End Phase of this turn.''

Something about the way Jay pronounced his cards effect, made Carmel want to barrel-roll with laughter. Jay was a dweeb. He was born a dweeb and he would die a dweeb-just like his father. In Carmel's eyes there was only four things that ever happened. You could succeed, you could get married, you could become homeless, or you could die; the fourth one happened to everyone all the time.

That crummy Battle Ox was still on the field. And he still had that stupid horn on his stupid forehead, no face-up Equip Spell card. Jay must think he waspretty smart-'' Yeah right.'' Carmel still had a special card in her hand, she just didn't want to use it.

Desperate times, Carmel, did call for desperate measures. She raised her card:

'' Charge of the Light Brigade!'' Jay hardly needed any explanation of that card, even though he knew Carmel wasn't going to give him the time to say it. I send the top 3 cards of my Deck to the Graveyard and add 1 Level 4 or lower Lightsworn" monster from my Deck to my hand.

That's what Carmel did. First she nailed the top three cards, rubbed her perfectly cleansed fingernails against them, and placed them in her '' discard pile.'' Carmel then picked one monster from her deck-Lightsworn Level 4 or lower. She added that card to her hand. Do to rules, she was to show her card too Jay.

And she did.

Card: Minerva, Lightsworn Maiden

Jay didn't see the point of it. Even if she summoned that monster, which she couldn't because she already Normal Summoned Lumina, it wouldn't help her against his strong Battle Ox. Even if she summoned that dragon, Jay had the perfect counter attack.

Then he thought, '' Wait...what if it was never a monster she was looking for!'', and he was right. They appeared in Garoth's hands. Two long glowing blue sabers appeared in Garoth's hands. He had become stronger...stronger than Battle Ox.

Jay: 2150

Carmel: 3900

" You activated my Spell card. Lightsworn Sabre. You made me activate this, Jay. Because when this card is sent from my deck to the Graveyard I can select one 'Lightsworn' monster on my side of the field. That monster gains seven hundred attack points. Now Garoth is stronger than your little yak. Garoth, attack!

Spear Typhoon!"

Garoth saluted his master Carmel-narcissist and a spoiled brat. Garoth then charged at Battle Ox, spinning his spear with incredible movements. The spinning created a small cyclone, which Garoth used to rip through the red armored Battle Ox. Battle Ox gave one last powerful shriek before it exploded into a million pixels.

" Not my Battle Ox," said Jay. Jay was really sad. A tear dripped from his left eye.

" It doesn't end there, nephew-boy. Lumina, attack him! Three Sword Dance!"

Lumina raised her right hand up. A glowing white orb illuminated in her arm, then three small glowing swords floated over her fingertips. With one swish, Lumina threw the three swords at Jay. The swords would impale him! The swords were homecoming on Ian, pierce through his heart, but then a creature emerged.

The creature Jay summoned was the exact embodiment of the tale from the Trojan War about the subterfuge that the Greeks used to enter the city of Troy and win the conflict. The creature was quadrupled, a four-legged wooden horse with stubbed wooden spikes coming out its neck, and black eyes.

" I activated my Trap Card: Call of the Haunted. With this card I can summon one monster from my Graveyard to my side of the field in Attack Position. I chose the Trojan Horse (1600/1200)."

" B-But that's impossible! I've never sent that card to your Graveyard."

" I know. I did. Remember when I used Hand Destruction? Necro Gardna wasn't the only monster I sent there. I also sent Trojan-" Jay suddenly realized his aunt was asleep. Somewhere during his explanation she just dozed off. It not only dumbfounded Jay, but it also dumbfounded everyone in the stadium, including Ciel. With ten snaps of his fingers the yawning Carmel woke up.

" What?"

" Huh? I guess I did sound a little boring. Anyways, my monsters here now and your monster isn't strong enough to beat him."

" Is that so? At least your monster isn't strong enough to get past my Garoth. I'll end my turn. Do to my Lightsworns effects, I have to send cards from my deck to the Graveyard."

Carmel started by sending three cards. After that she sent two cards to the Graveyard and drew one card. Then she sent three more cards from the top of her deck, and send two more because of Garoth. Now it was Jay's turn.

Jay: 2000

Carmel: 3900

Jay nervously drew one card from the top of his deck. Jay added the card he drew to his hand and studied it. Jay couldn't believe it. A sly smile spread on Jay's face.

" This is it, Carmel," Jay said. " Because of my Trojan Horse's special ability, I can use him as two tributes for the Tribute Summon of an Earth monster."

" Those eyes," Carmel thought. " Don't tell me he's got it..."

" I Tribute Summon my Trojan Horse; Summon Usagi, Zodiakku Rabbit (2500/2000)!"

With a wave of smoke of smoke Trojan Horse shattered into a million pixels. But the incessant, the things in Trojan horse, two glowing white balls, floated off the ground, twirling together in a bright starlight, they became a whole.

A bipedal rabbit standing on two long legs carrying two boomerangs appeared. The rabbit had a red scarf wrapped around its mouth. He wore a belt with a wrench, pliers, and tweezers. The rabbit was wearing a vest obviously too tight for a normal person, brown fur trimmings covering it. The rabbit has a white underbelly with gray fur at the back, two long pointy ears with two piercings on the right ear, a bow wrapped around the left ear, short spiky blue hair on top of his head and small charcoal eyes. The rabbit would be half a foot short if it weren't for those two foot big ears.

" A rabbit?" A student in the stadium said. " Is this a joke?"

" That thing almost looks like Bugs Bunny," a female student said.

" So weird."

" He has got to be joking," Ciel thought. " That thing doesn't even have enough attack to stand up to Garoth."

" Right now you're probably thinking luck wasn't on my side, Carmel. That this monster doesn't stand a chance against any of your monsters. That's where you're wrong. My Usagi is a Burrow Monster-it gets its powers from the Burrows. For every Beast-type or Earth monster in my Graveyard, my Usagi gains 200 ATK points. (2900). Usagi, attack Garoth!"

Jay's Usagi was a powerful monster. Usagi pulled out one of his giant boomerangs. Usagi reared his tail back, swaying it, circling it round and round, then threw his boomerang at Garoth. The boomerang went through Garoth's torso. Garoth was cut in half and exploded into a million pixels.

Jay: 2000

Carmel: 3550

" But my Usagi's terror doesn't end there," Jay said. " 'cause when my Usagi destroys a monster on your side of the field he's allowed to attack again. Usagi, attack her Lumina!"

Usagi leaped off the ground as he reached for his boomerang. Usagi then reached for his boomerang, pulled it out and threw it at Lumina. Like Garoth, the boomerang sliced through her torso and Lumina exploded into a million pixels. Both of Usagi's boomerangs then returned into Usagi's paws and he put them behind his back.

Jay: 2000

Carmel: 1650

" I'll end my turn."

" That," a student said, " that was awesome."

" Completely-" another student in the stadium said. " That was the greatest comeback move I've ever seen."

" But who's that monster he's using? I've never seen it before."

" Yeah, most of the other cards he's using are really basic. Other than Usagi and that Typhoon card he's using."

" These fools will never understand what they cannot read," Ciel thought, stroking his ring like a very important item. " They're dealing with cards beyond their world." Ciel's ring projected an image. This image strode through the prism and galloped over a fence.

It was Carmel's turn. She drew the top card from her deck and added it into her hand. Like Jay she studied her card and pondered the ability it possessed. Unlike Jay she chuckled when she held it. Her laughter was high-pitch and scary.

" I'm afraid this is the end of the game, Jay. You put up a good fight, but my deck isn't some deck all the sensei's use. Mine is legit. It's what real duelists use. Garoth, Jain, Lumina, Celestia. I have over four different Lightsworn monsters in my Graveyard. I now have everything I have to Special Summon Judgement Dragon (3000/2600)!"

The entire field shook at the mention of its name. Eight small glowing balls emerged from the ground. A white dragon large in size; the upper part of its head, its back, upper portion of its tail, arms, and talons. Its underbelly and jaw, filled with very sharp teeth, are white and smooth, with its abdominals in particular being quite muscular. The Judgement Dragon, unlike most dragons, rather than having claws, has extended digits and a smooth, white patagium, making its anatomy and method of flight akin to a bat's than an actual dragons.

" Armageddon takes wings."

Armageddon did take full wings. Up close Jay mistook his aunt's monster for a sheep. It would be something Jay would laugh about if he wasn't scared of those teeth. Now he knew how Little Red Riding Hood felt when the wolf showed her its teeth - the best story was when the wolf ate grandma and little red, fell asleep, the woodsmen cut open its stomach, let them out, and filled its body with rocks, and the wolf died.

Jay: 2000

Carmel: 1650

" Do you remember the greatest quote from that video game Kingdom of Hearts I showed you?" Carmel smirked.

"Why do you hate the darkness? You accept darkness, yet choose to live in the light. So why is it that you loathe us who teeter on the edge of nothing; we, who were turned away by both light and darkness, never given a choice? What other choice might we have had?" Jay said.

" Very good that you remembered. Now by paying 1000 Life Point I can eradicate everything on your field. That includes your Usagi."

Jay: 2000

Carmel 650

The move Jay feared most of all was coming. Usagi, even if it had an ATK power of infinite, it would be no match for Judgment Dragon. The dragon unleashed a twister of golden-white wind. Usagi prepared to burrow itself underground. The wind went right into Usagi and...Judgment Dragon exploded.

" What?!" Everyone in the crowd/stadium, including Ciel and Carml, gasped.

Carmel wouldn't believe it. She was so caught up in winning she forget about the face-down Jay had set two turns ago. The picture showed Marauding Captain trying to protect someone from the green humanoid lizard Gagagigo.

" Sorry, Aunt Carmel," Jay said formally. " I activate My Body as a Shield. If you were going to use a card to destroy monsters on my field, magic, trap, monster, I pay 1500 Life Points to negate and destroy that card.

Jay: 500

Carmel: 650

" Now you've lost one of your most powerful monsters. What are you going to do now, Aunt Carmel."

" I can't bloody believe this," Ciel thought. " Blimey, this ogre had this planned from the beginning. Knowing his enemy gave him leverage; didn't matter if the deck she used wasn't a one used by teachers. But she can still set another monster."

Carmel studied the last cards in her hand. She kept thinking how could she be so blind? She just had to turn her Priestess into Attack Mode and change it back to destroy his face-down. Carmel placed every cards in her hand on top of her deck and placed her fingers over the deck.

" What's going on?"

" It looks like the teacher just surrendered to a student."

" Who could blame her? I haven't seen an introduce exam go by so smoothly since Jaden Yuki first came to Duel Academy."

" Do you think Jaden will make friends with this one?"

" I don't know. They're either going to be the best of friends or the worse of enemies."

" Impeccable fools," Ciel thought. Ciel rubbed his ring thinking about trinkets; those metal parts traders sell. Ciel was giving warmth to the pony in that ring, trotting.

" Winner: Jay Yusui!"

Some of the students, Slifer Red, Ra Yellow, and competitors who haven't made it into the academy yet, cheered for Jay. Their voices were nostalgic, like being the center of a parade. Jay smiled sheepishly to every one of them and waved at them.

" This is a little more inviting than I had thought," Nuo thought. " Maybe I'll actually make new friends at that school. But is it all because of that card Dad gave me I'm accepted? Well, it's my card now. Four years at Duel Academy with Christmas and summer off...bring it on."
