After everyone had gone into their rooms and fell asleep that night, Holly and Artemis were sitting down at the table; discussing what they had found. Neither knew what to say, and they just looked at each other.

Artemis broke the silence and looked at Holly with his ice blue eyes. "What we discovered was shocking. Perhaps even horrifying. It appears we were right about our suspicions."

Holly shook her head, a grim expression on her face and her hazel eyes filled with frustrated anger. "No, no. That doesn't make me feel any better. At all."

"My dear Captain, I wasn't trying to-"

"Yes you were!" Holly slammed her hands on the table and she was almost shaking from anger. "That's how you make people feel better, if you even try at all. I don't want us to be right about something like this. This will devastate Butler, and all you can say is that our suspicions were right?"

"What do you want me to say then, Captain?" asked Artemis sarcastically. "I don't comfort people, I'm not my mother. Yes, this will devastate Butler and I'm well aware it upset you, as well. But this is not the time to let our emotions control us!"

Holly sighed. "Maybe you're right... after all, this is an investigation. We do this all the time in the LEP. But... we don't even know what caught her attention. All we know is she saw something off in the distance, in the forest, and walked off camera and off campus. There's no more footage of her. Now, that's extremely suspicious and most likely leads to a connection with the LEP... but that's all we have."

Artemis nodded. "You're right," he agreed.

"Wow. Did you just agree with me?"

Artemis knew she'd say something like this. He knew it, and yet it still irked him. "I agree with you plenty," he said.

"Come on, Artemis. No you don't."

"Fine." Even he had to admit, maybe she had a point. "Maybe I don't agree with you that often. It doesn't mean you're wrong, though, or unintelligent."

Holly's heart jumped, and she reacted with it. Did he just compliment her? For a moment she thought she'd heard him wrong. But she hadn't. It was a slip of the tongue; Artemis caught it too. He flushed, just slightly. "W-Well..." Holly whispered. She tried to act casual. "Thanks..."

"Y-You're welcome." Artemis cleared his throat and continued, "Now, let's go deeper into this lead."

Holly nodded. "Alright. The big question: why?"

Artemis leaned back thoughtfully and rubbed his chin. "Why, indeed. Why would Miss Bloom do that? What is her motive?"

Holly thought on this. The most similar case that Holly could think of wasd when Artemis kidnapped her, but that was for money to get his father back. It did not appear as if Lilac was in want or need of money. But then again, Holly would have never expected something like this of someone like Lilac. Or at least the someone Lilac was pretending to be.

"Holly!" Artemis' voice snapped her back to reality. "I can see the wheels turning in your head. What are you thinking?"

Wow, Artemis could tell that? She almost laughed, but held it in and instead said, "Well, let's assume for a moment that Lilac isn't faking her personality. Butler knew her before any of this happened and he hasn't mentioned a personality change, so it's safe to assume that. What are Lilac's ambitions in life? What does she want?"

Artemis considered this. He didn't know too much about her... but he knew basically what she was like. Kind hearted, naive, sweet... "I don't think she means any harm to the LEP," he said. "Anything bad that happened most likely wasn't meant or happened on accident." He paused. "That's assuming she doesn't have a dark side."

"Of course."

"If she discovered fairies on that day... my first thought is that she was curious."

Holly's eyebrows raised. "Curious?" she asked.

"Yes," he replied. "She seems like the kind of girl to be very curious. Her being so interested in whatever was off in the distance supports that. My theory is that it was a fairy, or something related to the LEP. She got a lead, and she wanted to check it out."

"That could be it," Holly agreed. "But why would that make her a criminal?"

"That, I do not know," he admitted. "We can think all we want, but there are a million possibilities. However... I know our next step."

The captain swallowed. "Oh no... you have that look in your eye. That look that says, 'I have an evil plan and I'm so excited to explain it'."

Artemis just smirked even more. That look... Holly made fun of it, but she could stare at it forever. He didn't seem to hear her heart pounding; he said, "If there was in fact a fairy above ground there, then he or she was probably on a mission. I suggest- no, we're going to type in the address of Madame Ko's academy, and see what records pop up."

Holly thought about it for a moment. It did(italics) make sense. But a tiny voice pessimistic voice in her was talking. What will you find there? it said. It might be worse than anything you've ever imagined. What if- Holly closed her eyes and pushed those thoughts away. She couldn't think like that, especially not now. Holly had to live up to her LEP rank, and do what needed to be done.

"Yeah," Holly agreed. "That makes sense. Let's do it."

Artemis smirked. "Are you agreeing with me now? Times have changed."

"This is one of the rare occasions where you are right," said Holly, smirking back.

"Oh, is it?"

"Yeah." Holly stood up, and accidentally made a noise with her chair.

"Perhaps we should get some rest before our next adventure," suggested Artemis.

"Yeah. Especially if you plan to challenge Juliet to another rematch, you'll have to be fully rested for that."

He shot her a glare as icy as the Siberian winter. "That won't be happening, because I refuse to soil my dignity by appearing as if I didn't win. I did (italics) win. I continued because I pitied her." Holly opened her mouth to reply but he took the words right out of her mouth; "No, I am not scared that I'll loose."

Holly pouted. That was exactly what she was going to say. "Fine. I'll do that with Foaly tomorrow, and you, Juliet, Butler and Lilac can make cookies with Myles and Beckett."

Artemis felt it was too late to argue so he just nodded. "Very well." Again, Holly opened her mouth to say something else but he beat her to it. "Yes, I'll keep an eye on Lilac. Since we have confirmed at least she is not who she says she is, I will hint at a secret not being shared and make her nervous. When you and Foaly find any information, come down immediately and we'll put everything out on the table."

"Stop doing that!" Holly exclaimed. Then she realized, quickly, that that was too loud, and lowered her voice to a whisper. "You're reading my mind."

Artemis did that smirky look again. "No, of course not, my dear captain. I simply know you very well."

Holly couldn't stop herself from blushing at that. "Whatever," she mumbled, unable to think of anything else. She turned around, and started to walk to the stairs that led to the second floor. It was late, and she was tired. "Goodnight, Artemis," she said.

"Goodnight, Holly." She left up the stairs and disappeared around a corner. Artemis went the same direction, a minute later, to his room.

The next day was Christmas Eve.
