Chapter 22
"Wherein Kendrick Makes A Discovery And Faces The End."
It's here! Goblin Nation!
Seriously, I have been waiting to write this. I've had this planned since chapter 1, and I'm so excited to finally get this out. I'm planning for this to be my biggest storyline yet, I plan to introduce many more characters here, including one character that you are not expecting. I almost want to tell you now, but I'm trying to hold it in.
Thanks to Exile037 for reviewing. I hope that's not it for Jason, as I think his character has a few more stories to tell. As for Ken losing his brother again, yeah. I think...I think a part of the relationship between Ken and his brother is kind of based on the relationship between me and my brother. He's not dead, it's just...stuff.
Thanks to Blackenergy666 for favoriting and following Spider-Man: New World 1 & 2.
Thanks to following me, Spider-Man: New World 2, and favoriting me. And thanks for following this story. Now review!
And lastly, a HUGE thank you to MarvelHero1610 for the review. Seriously, this guy was the first person to ever review this story, and if it wasn't for him, this story probably wouldn't have got to where it is today. He's also the person who came up with the name of this story (It was originally Spider-Man: Golden. It made sense at the time because Ken's costume was red and gold). I recommend everyone go read his stories. Seriously, you will not regret it. In fact, as soon as you're done with this chapter, go read his stories. That's an order! Thank you for the kind words, and I'm glad you've been liking what I've been doing so far. And if you liked that, oh boy, just wait until you read Goblin Nation.
And now...Goblin Nation!
Kendrick Durham swung through the air, a huge smile on his face.
Jen.
Man, he has wanted something to happen between them for a while, and now it has. She loved him? Wow.
Ken didn't know what it was, but the sky seemed to be brighter. The sun was shining harder. The city...still smelled like shit, but you win some and you lose some.
Spider-Man sprayed a longer web-line that sent him right above the streets of the city, earning various looks from the people on the sidewalk.
"He's real!"
"I told you!"
"Freak!"
"Mutant!"
"Mutants are un-American!"
"Trump for president!"
Ken smiled even wider as he flipped over a traffic light.
Ah New York, don't ever change.
"Hey! He's stealing that old lady's purse!"
Really? Cliché much?
Spider-Man saw a man running away from an elderly lady that he had pushed to the ground, purse in hand.
"I hope you get cancer!" the old lady called, her fist shaking. "You should only get cancer!"
Spider-Man swung and kicked the guy in the face, sending him flying. He grabbed the purse and walked over to the old lady, helping her up.
"Here you go ma'am," he said as politely as he could.
"You bastard!" the old lady yelled as she hit him with her purse. "You got your nasty infested hands on my purse!"
"Jesus lady!" Spider-Man yelled. "What do you have in that thing, cement?"
"They're my pads!" the lady yelled as she continued hitting him.
"Ewwwww!" Ken yelled as he swung away.
Okay, that was disturbing. That is, like, in my top ten list of disturbing things that have happened to me.
Spider-Man felt a vibration. He landed on a rooftop and dug in his exoskeleton. While he was digging, his burner phone fell out, along with a piece of paper. He picked up the vibrating phone and answered it.
"Yello?"
"Oh wow, that is so lame," Captain Kathryn Mosley said on the other side of the phone. "Is that seriously how you answer the phone?"
"Well, I thought we were friends, Captain Mosley," Spider-Man replied.
"My friends call me Kat."
"Okay than, Kat."
"Oh no, you can't call me Kat. We're not friends," Kathryn said over the phone. "I was just telling you that if we were friends, then you would know to call me Kat."
"Noted," Ken said. "So, what's up?"
"Right. Well, we did a blood test on the Scorpion..."
"Why?"
"Hear me out," Kathryn said. "And his blood is a match for Curtis Lance. We're about to go arrest him now."
"Really? That's great!"
"Yep. I don't know if we can tag him for Farroway's murder, but he'll probably be seeing jail time. I figured you'd want to be there for the arrest."
"Yeah, I...," Spider-Man started, before looking at the piece of paper in his hands. "I'll, uh, be there soon. I gotta make a stop."
"A stop?" Kathryn asked, obviously confused. "But you were so pumped up to see Lance get taken down."
"Some things are more important than revenge Captain Mosley," Ken said. "It won't...shouldn't take too long. I'll be there."
"All right, but we're moving now, so you'd better get here." Mosley said before hanging up.
Ken put the phone away and looked at the folded paper in his hands. It was from his brother Drake. He had forgotten about it. After Drake died again, Ken had suffered from PTSD, so he had avoided all things connected with Drake. Now Ken was cured, and he realized he had forsaken his promise. He unfolded the paper and looked at the address that was written on it. It was only a few blocks from here. He could get there and still make it to the arrest. He jumped from the building and swung.
"You're breaking up with me?" Earl asked, sadness in his eyes.
"It's...I really wish...," Jen stammered around.
"It's Ken isn't it?" Earl asked.
"I...," Jen started before she turned away.
"I get it," Earl said. "I knew it was coming eventually."
Earl started to walk away. Jen felt even sadder because he was being so nice about this.
"Wait Earl," Jen said, before holding out the expensive necklace he had bought for her. "Your necklace..."
"Keep it," Earl said, a said smile playing across his lips. "It looks nice on you."
Jen stood there, as Earl walked away, the joy he normally had, absent from his steps.
And now I feel like a bitch, Jen thought sadly.
"So," Ken said. "You and my brother were engaged?"
Ken sat in the apartment of Sean Roderick, a blond guy who's address was written on the piece of paper Ken got from his brother.
"Yeah," Sean said. "It really...hurt me when I found out. When he shot up that school...when he was found, beheaded..."
"Yeah...," Ken said, remembering when his brother cut his own head off, when he was turned into Venom. "That, uh, that hurt me too."
"And...how did you know to come here?" Sean asked. "If you don't mind me asking."
"He gave me this piece of paper," Ken said, handing the paper to Sean. "He said in case he...you know."
"I know," Sean said as he looked at the paper.
"Honestly this all kinda surprised me. I didn't even know Drake was..."
"A faggot?"
"What? Jeez! No, I was gonna say gay. I was just thinking of the politically correct way to say it."
"Gay is fine, Ken," Sean said. Sean then started unfolding the paper, which Ken only had halfway unfolded. "Hey, what's this say here?"
Sean started reading it, before he covered his mouth. Upon looking further, Ken noticed tears were forming on the sides of his eyes.
"Um, what happened?" Ken asked, before Sean ran out of the room, crying.
"What the hell?" Ken asked.
Ken saw that he had left the paper sitting on the table. Even though it was none of his business, his curiosity got the best of him, and Ken looked closer at the paper.
"Holy shit!" Ken exclaimed.
It was a birth certificate.
Drake had adopted a baby.
"Captain Mosley, we are ready to move in," an officer in SWAT uniform said as they surrounded Farroway Enterprises.
They had got a large squad to arrest Lance. If he had created the Scorpion, who knew what else he had cooked up in there.
An undercover officer had said they saw Lance go into the building a few hours before, but Kathryn was trying to wait on Spider-Man. But it wouldn't be long before Lance would get wise of them and probably try to escape.
"Okay, let's move it, I want this as quick and clean as possible," Mosley said.
"Um, Captain?" an officer said as he pointed past them. Kathryn turned and saw Spider-Man, kneeling on a nearby rooftop. He gave her a thumbs up.
"Ignore him," Mosley said. "Our main focus is Lance. On my mark."
She held up three fingers. Then two. Then one.
The officers moved in, guns ready to the door. They stood outside it. One of the officers in the front kicked the door to break it in.
And it exploded.
Flaming shrapnel and debris shot out from the metal door, piercing the bodies of many officers. What was once the wall that the door was on, was now falling rocks that fell on and crushed many officers under it. One of them landed on an officer's head, crushing it like a grape.
"Oh my god...," Kathryn said as she saw the carnage. If she was any closer to the door, she might be dead too.
In a flash of red and blue, she saw Spider-Man land on the ground, and quickly start to check the hurt officers' pulses.
"No no no no no...," she heard him mumble.
"Spider-Man?" Kathryn said. "Spider-Man, you have to go after Lance. He has to pay for..."
"No," Spider-Man said. "Not yet. This guy's is still alive."
Spider-Man picked up the body of an unconscious officer, who was bleeding from the side of his head.
"Put him in a squad car, I'll drive..."
"No, I can get there faster," Spider-Man said as he swung away.
As soon as he left, an image was projected on the side of the building. It was of Curtis Lance. And...he was smiling.
"That bastard...," Mosley said, looking at all the cops. "He's gonna pay!"
"Sorry to interrupt your Kardashians and Bad Girl's Club, America," Lance's image said. "But I think you'll want to hear this. I am fed up with you. I am fed up with your fast food, I am fed up with your complaining, and I am fed the fuck up with your obsession with One Direction. They have one good song. One! So, today, I am taking control of it. All of it. All of you..."
Marshall sat in his mother's hospital room, holding her hand. He was glad she wasn't awake to see this. Lance had started his broadcast on every television, every cell phone, anything that was connected to the Internet. Marshall shivered. Kendrick had said Lance was crazy, but this?
"So, here is how things will work now. America is dead. Your freedom is dead. And if you don't follow my commands, then you are also dead."
"Nate!" Nicki Ross yelled at her brother. "Our Netflix subscription was canceled! You said you would refill it!"
"Okay, I forgot to pay it!" Nathan said. "It's not that big a deal!"
"You swore to God, Nathan!"
"I'm an atheist!" Nathan exclaimed.
Nicki looked taken aback. "...really? Since when?"
"Since, like, ever Nicki," Nathan said. "I don't need you judging me about it."
"No, it's just...," Nicki started. "I'm an atheist too."
"Really?"
"Yes, really."
They stood there for a minute.
"That's...kinda sad isn't it?" Nicki asked.
"Yeah...," Nathan said.
"I mean, we're the only ones left in our family, and neither of us has a little faith?"
"Man, what would Mom and Dad think?"
"I know, they were, like, super Christians."
"Hey, you wanna watch TV?"
"Sure."
They sat on the couch and turned on the television, instantly, they were assaulted by what looked like a mad scientist.
"Oh man, what is this shit?" Nathan asked.
"I can't change the channel!"
"So I am you leader now. I have power. And you...you have nothing."
Nicki and Nathan looked at each other, then ran to their respective rooms.
"Any one of you who question my power, observe."
Kendrick Durham, stood in the hospital room of the police officer he had rescued. The doctor said he'd make a full recovery. Now, he was watching the feed on the television in the hospital room.
Lance took out a small needle filled with green liquid. He then injected it into his neck.
"Hold on, it takes a minute for it to work..."
Then Lance started to shake and convulse. He then fell to the floor. Ken was hopeful. Maybe whatever he'd injected himself with had actually killed him. Then, Lance got up. But...it wasn't Lance anymore. Where the unappealing scientist had once stood, now stood a large hulking green monster with horns on its head and large muscles and sharp teeth, with smoke coming from his skin. (He looks like Ultimate Green Goblin.)
"What...the hell?!" Kendrick exclaimed.
"Now there are some of you out there, who still think I am weak. Maybe you're a mutant who thinks you could take me on. Or maybe...heh...maybe you're Spider-Man. Isn't that what you're calling yourself now, Kendrick? Spider-Man?"
"No..."
"Don't worry, I won't reveal your last name. No, I'll save that for when I destroy you in front of the entire world. But for right now...I'm giving the country a little...demonstration...of my power...Foils Enterprises has 200 satellites in orbit...they power those phones you all love so much...and now...each and everyone of them...is crashing to the ground..."
"No!"
Kendrick ran and looked out the window. He could see many balls of fire, falling from the sky, ready to crash.
"I am The Goblin..."
"Lance...you crazy son of a bitch!"
"And Goblin Nation has begun..."
Boom!
I told you guys this storyline would be big!
I remember when I wrote the first chapter for this...it was, like, a year ago, but I remember. I didn't really know how much this story would grow. Seriously, this was a side project. I even said so in the first chapter. Now I've pondered stopping my New World universe and just expanding this one. I doubt I'm doing that, though.
I just want to thank you guys for reading. Oh my god, this story seriously would not be here if not for you guys. I almost quit this. It seems stupid now, but I almost quit this story. If it wasn't for the reviews I got, with people telling me that they actually enjoyed this story, I probably would've quit this by now. Maybe then we'd finally have Batman: New World. I kid of course. Even though I talk about those first few chapters, and I admit they did kinda suck, I honestly wouldn't change a thing. I mean, yeah, if a few more people reviewed maybe, but I still get emails from people favoriting and following. And that means a lot too.
Okay, I'm rambling. Just wanna thank you guys for reading. Till next time.
