Jay's first loss in a duel against someone other than his dad and it was against a boy he was going to see when he entered the academy. When Jay was sad he would go to his room and cover every part of his body except his face. Jay was getting in the mood, dark and sad, his heart was beating normal, and Jay was drawing his mood in a little doodle. There was him—a doodle with a frowny face in black marker, and there was a city he drew called Sad Town. Jay drew Sad Town out of all the bad things in his life. Ciel, a doodle with an evil laugh, was drawn over Sad Town with menacing laughter written in a speech balloon " Hahahaha!"

Jay would stay in Sad Town drawing more sad pictures all night. His dad knew he would do this after how heavy his loss was, and after calming down his wife, who was still crying over Ciel's rude comment, walked in on Jay.

" Before you tell me to leave, " Nuo said upon entering, " I must remind you the person who paid for the house gets to make the demands. I demand that you let me turn on the lights and talk to you father to son. "

Jay hide his picture book in his covers while it was still dark. Jay nodded before Nuo turned on the lights. Nuo sat down beside Jay, he put his hand over his shoulder and he spoke to him man to man.

" I know you don't want to hear this, but that Ciel kid deserved to win. " Jay nodded before he realized what his father said. " He may have been a weird and rude kid, doesn't even say good-bye or thank you after we feed him and let him play Duel Monsters on our house, but he was the one who won and that entitles him to say whatever he wants to you. "

" Dad, can I go to a different school? "

"Why would you want to go to a different school when your mother and I already paid for your submission? You think you just take the test and your life is great? No. We have to pay for you to take the test and we have to pay for your classes. Then again, if you won't take those tests I can still get my money back. But you wouldn't be saying this because Ciel whooped you in that duel, would you? "

"...Maybe "

" Jarret Nuo Yusui. Did I ever tell you the story about your grandpa? Your grandfather still works at an office and is worth millions of dollars. Did he get that way by being perfect and finishing score above everyone else? It's true your grandfather studied hard, but there was one course he failed in college. Now that mark will haunt him forever. Did he give up in education because he wasn't good at science? No, he repeated the course and got his credits. People fail sometimes in learning, but the smart people are the ones who finish what they've started. "

Jay didn't understand all of his father's message but he realized it had something to do with how giving up because of one loss was a bad idea. It was true Jay failed against someone instead of a course, but he was willing to give duel academy a shot.

" Dad, I want to stay in the academy. "

" As long as you try your hardest and don't slack off in your studies...your mother and I will always support you. "

" I will go on the first boat sailing to duel academy tomorrow. "

Nuo smirked. Jay froze in shock when his fathers smirk turned into mischievous laughter. " Who said you were taking a boat there?"

" If I'm not taking a boat how else will I reach the island?" Tension grew as Nuo looked at Jay and gave him a half-crooked smile.

" Answer me this: what has two wings, a tail sticking upward, and weighs over one million pounds?"

"Dad, no! I hate those things! "

" Better learn to like them, because you won't be taking any drugs on the way there."

OOO

It was Jay's worse nightmare come to life! Jay was going to the academy in an airplane. Sea, Jay could handle; in the sea if he fell off he could swim. But this wasn't the sea, Jay was trapped in a million pound death machine. Why, oh why he kept saying to himself, must he be trapped on an airplane. Jay only discovered after passing the exam that everyone took an airplane to get there in one day and a boat only came at the end of their last year. Believe it or not Jay's worst nightmare was an airplane. Jay tried not to scream in the seat trapped between two other students with hardly any room to move. Planes crash, people die, and no one survives a fall from this altitude. He cold already hear the sucking noise of the plane doors open.

"GET ME OFF THIS DEATH MACHINE! "

OOO

Land! Jay had never been so happy to be on land before. He was so happy to be on land he could worship it. Land and sea. No one ever broke their bones falling on land. Sprain their bones, yes. Scrapes, yes. No one ever died tripping on dirt and no one was allowed to swim in this academy or so Jay thought until he saw older students swimming in the water.

Jay could finally see Duel Academy and its whole structure. Students were lining up and following men with Mohawks, sunglasses, and blue uniforms directing them to follow the path. Jay should have been in the front of the line because he was the first one out, but he zoned out when he saw Duel Academy. He was the first Yusui to ever enroll here. He wished his father had come here. He wished he could say he felt guilty being the first Yusui here, but he was here and he could stay here, and learn and duel.
