I was with everyone as we went through our plan to get Rebekah to come back. I was doing my best to fake not having any humanity.
"So what happened?" I asked.
"What are you talking about?" Damon replied.
"I need to know the story that I am telling Rebekah." I declared. "How did we beat Mikael?"
"Well he came after Elena and we vervained him, at which point we discovered that he had a dagger that he was going to use on Nik. Instead, Jeremy used it on him." Damon explained. "Now make sure that you believe this because Rebekah is a living lie detector and she won't come back if you don't make it sound true."
"It shall be true then." Mikael interrupted as he revealed a dagger and handed it to Jeremy.
"You might me to dagger you?" He asked in surprise.
"I will do anything to get Rebekah back." Mikael explained. "Now I will say that before you decide to leave the dagger inside of me, I am the only one that knows the location of the weapon that can kill that bastard."
Jeremy then stabbed him with the dagger and I took out my phone.
"Portland's lovely if you forget about the dreadful music and way too happy people." She answered. "However, the immense werewolf population makes up for that."
"Your dad's dead." I declared.
"What?" She responded in surprise.
"I don't mean your real dad, well he is dead, but Mikael has been daggered." I explained.
"I want to see his body." She demanded.
"I could send you a picture." I offered. "Or you could come here."
"If you're lying to me, your compulsion will show through." She pointed out. I needed to make her think. "So I'm going to ask you: is Mikael dead?"
"Yes." I repeated.
"I wish to speak my brother." She declared.
"That's not a problem because he's here." I stated before giving the phone to Nik.
"Hi, Bekah." He replied. He was nervous because he found out that Rebekah had killed their mother.
"Nik, what's this I hear about Mikael and a dagger?" She asked him.
"It is true." Nik stated. "He's gone forever. So when will you be back? I miss you."
"I'll be back soon." She promised. It seemed like she actually cared about him.
"Good, I'll see you then Love." He remarked before hanging up. "He bought it."
"Now was that easy or what?" Damon asked.
"Don't jinx us." Leah chided.
I wasn't entirely sure what to do next. The hard part about playing the emotionless girl was I couldn't act like I was excited about going to Homecoming. I wanted to go with Jeremy and probably dance with him, but I had to focus on killing Rebekah. No one did seem to notice that anything was up, so I was still a great actress. I was pretty sure that part of the reason that I was doing it was that I didn't think anyone liked me anymore anyway. I wasn't sure if Damon liked me because he made his hatred of werewolves well-known. I wasn't sure if he could overcome that due to the fact that I was his sister or not. I didn't know how to talk to my mom. I was pretty sure that she still loved me, but I had been such a bitch, no pun intended, even before I was turned. It was too bad that Lexi wasn't around to make me feel better.
The next day, I went to school wearing a white blouse and black shorts with Spartan heels.
"Sara, I need to see you after class." Nik told me. I couldn't help but wonder what he had to say. I knew that he had talked to Mikael in the morning.
So after class, I closed the door and we talked.
"What is it?" I asked nervously.
"I just wanted to confirm that you have your humanity back, but it seems that no one else can tell." He replied.
"What is it going to take for you not to tell them?" I asked as I walked closer.
"Ms. Salvatore, you're trying to seduce me, aren't you?" He remarked. He must have watched The Graduate lately. "Now that would be pretty inappropriate seeing as I'm your teacher."
"Well I need to keep this a secret, especially from Jeremy." I declared.
"I would think that he would be happy about this." The Original surmised.
"Maybe I'm not." I argued. "Maybe I don't deserve him."
"Wow, you're not fun with your humanity, are you?" He replied. "I won't say a word and I will see you tonight at the dance."
I was a bit relieved by that. I couldn't help but wonder if I could get my spot back on the team. I mean Matt wasn't playing this year from some unexplained reason. I could probably compel my way to quarterback if I wanted to, even though I wasn't particularly interested in playing tonight. It was probably something that could wait until after Rebekah was dead.
As soon as I got home, I realized that I had a problem. I didn't know what to wear. Everything in my closet looked wrong for a Homecoming. It may have had to do with the fact that I hadn't gone shopping in a while. I went to Leah's room where she, Anna, and Elena were planning their attack.
"I need a dress." I declared.
"Don't you have your own dresses?" Leah asked as I began to look through her closet.
"It's a high school Homecoming. I need a better dress and I didn't bother to shop." I declared.
"You could just not go." Elena suggested.
"I still need to protect you." I pointed out. "If you're going, I have to go. With your luck at school dances, you'd probably get yourself killed by the queen."
I then found a dress and began to put it on because a vampire without humanity didn't exactly have any modesty.
"So please tell me that your plan involves better weapons than wolfsbane grenades." I declared as I looked on the bed.
"We do but we don't trust you enough to tell you." Anna remarked.
"My freedom from Rebekah relies entirely on your plan working, so you could at least tell me what it is." I replied. Technically it was still true. Even though I was no longer under her compulsion, I was still under her servitude.
"We don't know if we can trust you." Elena remarked. "Klaus compelled you which means one wrong move and this could all far apart."
"That's a valid concern, but usually when we have an epic plan failure, it's because someone let their humanity get in the way. You know that I'm the last person that would screw this up." I remarked. I had to make sure that I didn't let my humanity get in the way, but to my knowledge Rebekah didn't have any plans to exploit it because she wouldn't know. I would have to be better so she wouldn't be able to tell.
One I was done getting dressed and made up, I walked downstairs in my pink dress with a vertical line of beads down the center of the bodice with a multi-layered skirt. I couldn't help but notice that someone seemed to be waiting for me. It was Jeremy.
"What are you doing?" I asked. I tried my best not to sound too surprised.
"I just wanted to make sure that you had someone to take you to the dance." He stated.
"That's nice of you." I quipped. I wanted to cry, but I couldn't break character.
"So how long are you going to do this for?" He asked. Did he know? "Will you turn it back on after we beat Rebekah?"
"I don't want to turn it back on." I replied. "I like being what I am, so do us both a favor and stop trying to change me."
"Okay, if that's what you want." He remarked. "We should go. Tyler said that the party was moved to his house because the gym was flooded."
"You know that is a bitch move." I commented. "It's a lot when it's coming from me."
"Well to be honest, I don't really care where it is." He remarked. "Hell, I probably wouldn't even go to this thing if all of my friends weren't doing it."
"You liked going to dances last year." I pointed out.
"That was because I knew that you liked it." He replied. I wasn't sure if he was trying to be indifferent to get me to care for him, or if he was telling the truth. I was a little bit concerned.
Once we got there, I realized that there was a definite problem with the dance being at Tyler's house. Mikael hadn't been invited in, so technically, all Rebekah had to do was wait inside and the plan would fail. I hoped that Damon was reworking the plan in response to the new development.
When we got to the dance, I noticed a lot of unfamiliar faces. I knew that I didn't really anyone from the senior class, but they still didn't look right. They looked like they were older, even though I had seen some pretty old looking high school students on TV.
"I need to go find Rebekah." I told Jeremy.
I headed outside and saw that there was some crappy band playing. I couldn't find Rebekah but I did see Tyler with a box of beer and decided to say hi. He had some kind of sire bond that made him want to serve Rebekah. She probably didn't need a sire bond to do that because she was hot enough to make almost any guy listen to her. I didn't have any desire to serve her. I couldn't figure why that was, but I didn't care.
"Hey Tyler." I greeted him.
"Hi, Sara." He replied.
"You know this is a nice party." I commented.
"Thanks but I'm not the one who's throwing it." He answered. Did he know where she was because I still couldn't see her? "It's not a party. It's a wake."
I then looked on the stage to see Rebekah there. I almost expected her to start singing or crowd-surfing, even though I didn't know if she would be good at either one.
I found her a few minutes later.
"That was a little flamboyant, don't you think?" I asked. "Also you could have any band in the world. Why did you have to get one that sucked?"
"What's got you in such a grumpy mood, Darling?" She asked as she grabbed my chin.
"I don't really want to be at some high school party." I declared. "I don't even know most of these people."
"Well you probably shouldn't because they're like us." She explained. "As for the band, they were playing in Portland and I decided to pick them up with the rest of my crew. They definitely know how to party."
"So I want you to make a deal with me." I declared. "Since I helped get rid of your father, I want to be free of all of your compulsion and your servitude. I think it's fair."
"I suppose that it is and I don't really like only being friends with me because you've been forced to." She remarked. "As soon as I see Mikael's dead body, I will grant you your freedom. So if you want it to be quicker, you should bring him."
"He's at the boarding house." I replied.
"I said bring him here." She repeated.
"Fine, I'll go get him." I remarked.
I headed back to the house to find Damon and Mikael were in the living room.
"So, Rebekah isn't going to come here." I stated. "I hope that your master plan didn't depend on that."
"It doesn't. Like I said, we have a plan." Damon stated. "It just doesn't involve you."
Without warning, Mikael came over and bit my neck. He started to drink my blood and before I could even bite him back, I was unconscious on the floor.
When I came to, I found that I was with my mother. It was at that moment, Elena entered. Well, I thought it was Elena at first, but upon closer inspection, I realized it was Katherine.
"Sara." She told me.
"What are you doing here?" I asked her.
"I don't have a lot of time." She replied. "I don't want anyone to notice that I'm gone from the party, but I have something that I need to tell you."
"Out with it." Mom told her.
"Rebekah has hybrids all over the house and if he dies, they'll go after Damon." Katherine explained. "If there is any part of you that cares, it needs to come out or Damon's going to die."
She then ran off.
"I have to stop them." I replied. My humanity was definitely getting in the way, but I couldn't let my brother die. "I have to save Damon."
"That did it." Mom stated. "You're back."
"I don't have time to talk about this." I declared before I rushed out the door.
I got back just in time to see that Damon had start to stab Rebekah with a white stake. I lunged at him and tackled him, causing the stake to come out and Damon to fall to the floor. Rebekah took advantage quickly and grabbed the stake and stabbed Mikael with it. Mikael screamed as he began to burn up and soon nothing was left.
"What did you just do?" Damon asked me.
"She's earned her freedom." Rebekah declared. "You are no longer bound to me and can do whatever you want for fulfilling your end of the bargain."
I decided that since Damon was extremely pissed off, it wouldn't be a good idea for me to go home. I went and found some people and compelled them to go with me to Rebekah's truck and got them to help me move the four coffins inside into the witch house. Even though I had saved her, I knew her weakness and I was going to make her pay.
In the morning, I decided to give her a call.
"There's my girl." She declared. "You know I never probably thanked you for saving my life. We should get a drink together."
"You know you took everything from me, Rebekah." I stated.
"Let bygones be bygones, Darling." She suggested. "Resentment gets old."
"I know something that never gets old." I said as I heard her opening her truck. "Revenge."
"No." She replied.
"I suppose the family reunion will have to wait a while." I quipped.
"I will kill you and everyone that you have ever met." She threatened.
"Then how will you get your family back?" I proposed. "I have to admit, you taught me well, but now it looks like the student has finally become the master."
So we got a scene with Sara and her mom and she managed to sell her apparent lack of humanity to everyone but Klaus. Please don't forget to review.
