Chapter 199

.

By 2pm Amy and Eve were almost out of Texas. Would Colorado accept them, or arrest them as dangerous radicals? They would soon know. But before they could make it across the border there was a roadblock. Scary enough given their crime. Scarier was that everyone here was wearing protective suits. They looked like the kind people wore in nuclear power plants. Eve remembered seeing on the news people in Illinois wearing them after Samuel detonated his suitcase nuke. Amy tried to drive away, but one of these guys shot her tires. This guard ordered them out at gunpoint Eve had seen a lot these last two years, much of it bad. But she had never been this scared her entire life, at least her entire life so far.

The armed guards in Hazmat suits took blood from Amy and Eve. They barely said anything as they confiscated their cellphones and marched them into their van. They drove for a couple of miles, until they reached the motel. This motel was called "Neptune inn." It had an ocean theme, but most of that was worn away. The entire motel was now covered in plastic. The guards forced them into one room. The room was also covered in plastic, seperated from other rooms. They had to open a zipper to get inside, just as they'd had to open the other zipper to get inside this motel/tent. By this point Amy had figured out what was happenning. There was an outbreak, some sort of virus. These people were testing their blood, ensuring they were clean. If they weren't, then one way or another, these girls were going to die very soon.

In their forced motel room, Amy and Eve had little to do, but wait and hear their fate. There were candy bars and soda, at least they wouldn't starve to death. But there was no television, a few books, a deck of cards, and some poker chips. The girls decided to play poker to pass the time. They decided that the white chips were worth $2,500, the blue chips were worth $5,000, and the red chips worth $10,000 each. Unless they both survived, If that happenned the white chips were worth a quarter, the blue chips worth 50 cents, and the red chips were worth one dollar each. This was better than just nervously pacing. Amy began wondering how to do last rites. Like Eve, Amy had been raised catholic, but had fallen in more with the Sons of Liberty. Although they had chaplains, Amy mostly just did her work. As they fell asleep together, they still didn'tknow their fate. This waiting had been hell, but at least they'd gone through it together.

Eve could understand why the guards had been rude, barely even spoken to them. They didn't want their prisoners' names, what they were like. Because that might mke it all the more difficult to do what they might have to do later. Maybe they would be nicer if they could bring back some good news. It was now Saturday November 11th, 617 days until impact. The guards finally came back into the room. They were still wearing Hazmat suits, and they didn't look happy.

.

Guard: Eve Thompson, come with me. Amy Boros, go with the other guards.

Amy: Why are you seperating us?

Guard: We ran both of your blood samples three times, they're different.

Amy: You're saying, only one of us is healthy?

Guard: Correct. Now, go to where you are assigned!
