Japanese Countryside: Mitsue, Nara Prefecture

Davis woke up cold and weak with pain in his body, the lightning seemed to have ceased outside but the rain was still pouring heavily, Lily's body still laid in the

young man's arms, her color had begun to change meaning that the time to finally let her rest was coming close. He pondered about what to do, he did not want to

bury the child, his beautiful flower was too precious to let her rot in the dirt with the rest of those that left the world of the living, the only answer was fire, he would

have to burn her body, this thought made him shudder because he had to say goodbye and because he wished he could burn away all that he felt at the moment. He

had expected to wake up and find out that it was all a dream, that somehow destiny had chosen to spare the child and that he had been fooled into believing she was

gone, even after all that had happened he still had that last bit of hope, caressing Lily's cheek he realized that there was no way back, she was forever lost and he

could never find her again.

It would have been unfair to leave the angels out of the picture, his egoism wanted him to be the only one to say goodbye to Lily, but he knew that it would not be

fair to the rest of his companions, they too had cared and loved the child while unknowingly being illuminated by her light, Davis's mind became open once again and

he spoke to his angels for the first time since he had left.

"Alexia, Victoria, both of you and Wisemon please come to the abandoned church in Mitsue." He said telepathically and then making a slight pause "It's time to say

goodbye"

He felt seconds pass as if they were hours, the angels would take very little time to get to his location but the nervousness inside of him was unbearable, letting her

go, watching her body burn into ashes, the mere thought of it made the young chosen tremble. But what could he do what could he give, even if he could somehow

use his power, even if he was a king, he was not a God, and he was truly powerless against death itself.

Footsteps began to sound in close distance, the doors to the church were opened to reveal the angels and Wisemon, all of them wearing expressions of sadness they

approached the king of darkness and took in the cruel and heartbreaking image that they were seeing. Davis looked up at them with a blank expression, he had them

approach Lily's body to say their final goodbyes, the angels cried and Wisemon stood gripping his book with force and biting his inner lip to prevent himself from

breaking down, the chosen of the dark hazard went around the church and broke the wood chairs and benches into smaller pieces to put around Lily's body, when he

was done he approached his three companions and without saying a word he began to encircle the child's body with the wood pieces.

"Master we-" said Alexia trying to get a word out of Davis

Davis did not even look back at Alexia; he continued crying with a blank expression on his eyes as he set the last of the wood on the ground.

"My lord, please say something!" said Victoria as she tried getting close to Davis before she was stopped by Wisemon

"I think that he deserves to say his final goodbyes by himself, let us leave him for now" he said to the angels and then turned to Davis "My king, we will be waiting

close by, please take all the time that you need and do not hesitate to call us if you need to talk or require anything to ease your pain"

They walked out of the church and left Davis by himself standing with Lily's body in front of him, Davis circled around the body looking at it from every angle possible,

it was torture to his finest to put himself to the task of turning her body to ashes, but he was the one responsible for her death, for the pain she had to endure during

those moments, for all the blood that she saw being spilled, he was the cause, and if she had suffered then it was only fair for him to suffer a thousand times more.

"Lily, I know that you can't hear me anymore, I know that you're life ended very soon and that the majority of it was filled with pain and sorrow" said Davis as he

began to sob uncontrollably "LILY I LOVE YOU! I WISH I COULD HAVE SAVED YOU! I WISH I COULD HAVE SEEN YOU GROW UP, GRADUATE, GET MARRIED AND

HAVE A FAMILY! I WISH YOU COULD HAVE BECOME ALL THAT I AM NOT! BECAUSE YOU WERE GOOD AND PURE! AND IT'S MY FAULT THAT YOU ARE NOT HERE! THE

WORLD WILL NEVER SEE YOU SMILE AGAIN, I WILL NEVER SEE YOU LOOK AT LIFE IN EXCITEMENT! I WISH I COULD TRADE MY LIFE FOR YOU AND FOR EVERYONE

THAT HAS DIED BECAUSE OF ME! BUT IM USELESS!" he yelled as loud as he could with his words sounding even more hurt because of his tears

"I'm sorry, I'm so so sorry"

Flashback

It was nighttime and Davis was carrying Lily from the living room to her bedroom because she had fallen asleep there. He laid the child on the bed and tucked her in,

careful not to awaken her, as he was about to turn around he heard her say in a half asleep voice.

"Nighty night, Oni-chan"

"Goodnight Lily, sweet dreams"

End Flashback

That memory came back to the chosen like a tsunami in full force; he reached for Lily's cheek one last time and said to her those same words.

"Goodnight Lily, sweet dreams"

And with those last words he backed away from the body and invoked the powers of fire, the flames circled around the wood and the fabric of Lily's dress, growing

bigger and bigger until they engulfed everything and only the flaming shadow of her incinerating body could be seen.

He stood there, not moving an inch, entranced by the consuming flames and the echoes of his past, the flames began to extinguish as he had ordered them to, only

ashes remained, it was done, she was gone. Davis went to front of the crucifix and found a small golden box that must have been used for communion based on its

design, he walked back to the pile of ash and with all the patience and care he had; he began to put the ash into the box until there was only an old church floor left.

He hugged the box close to his chest while tears fell onto it, without further or due he walked out of the church into the rainy weather.

The angels and Wisemon were a few meters away, he could see them waiting for him but instead of going over to them and getting comfort; Davis nodded and

opened a portal through which he disappeared, his three companions soon followed.

Olympian Towers: Tokyo

Davis appeared on the rooftop of the penthouse, he waited for his partners and mentor to arrive and after a few seconds they did, he asked Wisemon about Jade

since he had not had the chance to know about her fate, Wisemon told her of her death and the hazard chosen took a long sigh and paused to let it sink in, another

one to add to the list, another innocent, damn him, damn him and the day he was born.

"Go to the morgue and set up a funeral, she was a kind woman and does not deserve to end up in some unmarked grave, make up a story and tell everyone she

knew, start with the people from the bar, they should know of her other friends"

Wisemon did as he was ordered, the angels looked at Davis expecting a response from him, how would they go on from there, what to do, he did not look at them

and walked passed the two and into the building, they followed him all the way back to the penthouse and then saw him go into his room but not before saying to

them one thing.

"I can't tell you how I feel because it is as if I was dead; I don't want help because at this point, I am beyond being saved"

With that he closed the door and the angels were left staring at a door, they eventually retired to the living room to drink some well deserved tea as well as to ponder

about what they would do about their master.

Davis put the box on his nightstand and laid on the bed, it felt cold and hard even though it was made of the finest materials, his body was worn out and his mind felt

heavy, he eventually fell asleep so that his body could finally attempt to recuperate from the fatigue and beating it had received.

Wisemon returned to the apartment after having successfully completed the tasks that he was assigned, he quickly inquired on Davis's status to which the angels

responded that he had been asleep for quite some time now, they waited for a long period of time until Davis was ready to come out of the room, the three of them

had dosed off for a while but it was nothing compared to the time it took Davis to get out of the room.

The chosen walked out by himself, having left the box with Lily's ashes in his room, he headed towards the living room where he was met with his three friends,

Wisemon explained what he had been able to arrange for the passed away Jade, they all agreed to attend and since the funeral began in a few more hours they each

went to shower and change without much more words being said.

Heavenly Steps Funeral Services: Tokyo

The funeral home was beautifully decorated in white and pastel colors, flowers were put around the closed casket which was adorned with beautiful gold colored

accents, Davis had thought that not many people would attend but he had been wrong, the room was full of people, he recognized all of the workers from the bar

who greeted him and his angels with respect and then proceeded to sit down while some of them wept quietly, there were also many other attendants that he did not

recognize, this young woman had a whole life ahead of her thought Davis, she could have been so much more, she could have lived so many more beautiful moments

and yet she was confined to that cold casket forever because of Davis himself, because of his enemies, his revenge, his mere existence.

The rest of the funeral went on without anything else of importance happening, time passed and people slowly began to head back home, only her closest friends

stayed and slept in the many couches and chairs during the night, Davis however never sat down or left her side, he stood in front of the casket with a poker face for

the whole night, not moving, not crying, he looked like a statue frozen in time forever, he felt like it was the least he could do; make sure than even in her death she

would not be alone.

Tokyo Cemetery

The casket was being laid into the ground while close friends gave their lasts goodbyes to the young woman, beautiful flowers of all different colors adorned the spot

where the gravestone was being put, Davis stayed behind for a little more time after everyone including the angels and Wisemon had departed to their respective

homes. He touched the gravestone which was still warm from all the moving and handling it had endured during the burial, standing there he watched the sun set

once again into the horizon, after dark had consumed the sky he placed one final flower in front of the grave and turned around walking away from one of the few

people in his life that had actually cared.

"May your soul find the peace it deserves, for I shall never find it because of my own curse" he said

Davis came back to the apartment and was met with Wisemon and his angels awaiting him in the living room, he sighed tiredly because he knew that the reason they

were expecting him was because of the idea that they could talk to him and help him through the grief that he was experiencing.

"I'm not even going to ask why you were expecting me since I think I have a good idea of why, and before we start a mindless and tiresome conversation, I just want

to say that I do not want to talk, I do not want to share, all I want is something that I can never have, all of them back"

"We are not trying to push you to do anything you don't want to, but you need help, you need to understand that you aren't alone in this, that we will help you get

back on your feet" said Alexia

"It's hard not to miss them, and we know you wish with all your heart and soul that you could bring everyone back, but you can't and that's why you have to move

on, you have to keep your head up and live, LIVE FOR THEM AND THEIR SACRIFICES!" yelled Victoria to him for the first time raising her voice at her master

Davis did not answer to any of the words that were being said, he simply dragged his feet to his room and closed the door with a low sound, he sat on the edge of the

bed and put his hands on his face while tears fell across his cheeks, he reached for his nightstand and found a picture of him and his parents along with a newer one

of him, the angels and Lily, he let them fall to the floor and he closed his fists with so much force that his bones began to make cracking sounds, he eventually laid

down on the bed with his face facing the ceiling, his mind haunted his emotions by replaying scenes of his early childhood, along with bits of the relationship he had

with Kari and finally meeting Lily.

"If only I could get one more chance, one more chance to save them" he said before finally falling asleep

Davis's Dream

Davis was at the very peak of a massive mountain covered in snow, he didn't feel cold even though it seemed like he should have been, he searched around trying to

understand the reason behind his sudden appearance in such a place, he suddenly heard someone sneak up behind him, his instinct told him to react in a defensive

way but before he could do that he felt himself being frozen completely, he then realized that he was now face to face with what seemed like a man sized metal

clock-like creature, it's body was covered in titanium and gold and his eyes seemed to carry the image of time itself on them.

"Ahh, hello, sorry for the scare but you aren't exactly a welcoming person" said the creature

"What am I doing here? What is this place?" he asked

"This is just an illusion, I thought you would like snow since you used to like playing with Kari when you were younger" said the creature

"What? How do you know that? Who are you? Why can't I move? Are you the dark hazard again?" began the young man bombarding the creature with questions

"Wait hold up, first I am not the hazard spirit, nope, I am much more than that. My name is Clockmon" said the eccentric creature as it took a small bow "Now, the

reason you can't move is because of my own safety, you wouldn't want to kill the ruler of time now would you?" answered the creature in the most natural of voices

"Time ruler?" said Davis barely being able to keep up with what was being said

"At your service"

"But why? What do you want? What could I possibly give you?" asked Davis

"Why? Because your story is not supposed to end like this, your whole life has been a constant battle against hell itself, and just when it seemed like you had won,

you lost it all, I can do whatever I want and whenever I want and I like happy endings, that is why I am here to make a deal" said Clockmon

"Which is?" answered Davis

"I can help you save them"

"You mean bring all of them back?" asked Davis as tears of joy threatened to fall from his eyes

"Not so much bring them back as to having them never leave you" answered Clockmon "There is a catch however"

"Say it" urged Davis

"Your parents" answered the digimon

"What about them?" asked Davis

"You see kid, there are points in time, special events that can never be changed, they cannot be undone or else all of existence would fall apart, the death of them is

one of those events. I cannot help you bring them back. I know it's tough but think about what that would do to time and space, MaloMyotismon would have won

because you would have been in Italy with them, your partner Veemon would have never found you and the crest of miracles would have never existed, the crest of

the dark hazard would have fallen in the hands of evil and would have destroyed everything in its path, you see what I am trying to say?"

Davis sobbed at this revelation, he cursed and yelled, Clockmon merely watched with sadness and even he felt like it was unfair to the young man, after time passed

he composed himself and said to the time digimon.

"But Lily, will she be able to be saved?" asked the boy terrified of what the answer might be

"Yes, she and many more will be saved"

"Then I agree, I love both my mother and father but they taught me to help those that need it before thinking about me, I will honor those wishes by saving the

innocents that have died and as for them, I will cherish their memories forever.

"Funny" chuckled Clockmon "You still haven't even heard my request and yet you accept without as much as a simple yes"

"Whatever it is, I will do it"

"Fine, I don't want money, I don't want gold, what I want is your power. I want the power of the dark hazard. Now the question is, will you agree to give it to me?"

"I agree!" yelled Davis at Clockmon

"You are telling me, that you would give up the powers of a God, the abilities beyond anyone's imagination, the strength beyond comprehension, you would give all

that in order to save those you love and have lost"

Davis looked down at his feet and couldn't contain his tears anymore, he looked up at Clockmon while still crying and said "Yes, I would give that and all that I have

just to see them saved"

Clockmon was amazed at what he had seen, a normal human would have never relinquished such power, in all of his existence he had never encountered such a soul,

the boy had unknowingly passed his test, he did not need Davis's power, he was a neutral being not light or dark, not good or evil, he was simply just, and this time

justice would be served.

"Very well, you have the most selfless soul I have ever seen, your parents raised you well, you have won this round my dear fellow, I do not wish your power, I do

not need it, I am the master of time and THIS IS MY REWARD TO YOU KING OF DARKNESS! ONE MORE TIME! ONE MORE CHANCE!"

I decided to change the ending for the story, I had originally planned for a heartbreaking ending but decided against it simply because I think Davis

has suffered enough, the introduction of Clockmon was my way of rescuing the last bit of hope for a happy ending. I am still debating on whether or

not to find a way to save Davis's parents as well, that is still under debate and I'll hopefully decide by the next chapter, until then guys.
