Author's Note: Whelp, here's the talk you all wanted to see(judging by reviews on last chapter). And this chapter is also pretty long. :)
Chapter Fifteen
Jon led Chasity over to his sofa and they sat in a bit of awkward silence for a few moments. Finally Chasity broke it. "I'm sorry I pushed you so hard about the baby's name. You were right about not having any obligation to naming him because he's not yours," Chasity paused and took a deep breath. Despite the impossibility of it there was no way Chasity could deny she wished this baby was his. If for no other reason than that she'd at least know who his father was. "Unfortunately, due to the circumstances in which I got pregnant, he has no father. Obviously, as a result, that makes it my responsibility to name him, and nobody else's."
Chasity fell silent, as if she was thinking about what else she wanted to say, and how to say it. Finally she looked up at him and locked her eyes with his. "Look Jon, I don't wanna lose this friendship again. I hated it when we lost touch back after high school. I never thought we'd see each other again, but now that we've gotten our second chance I refuse to let us lose touch again when I have the power to stop it."
Jon shook his head. "No, this isn't all on you. I'm just as much to blame in all of this as you are. I never should've said I'd be his father-figure when I had no idea what that term even entailed," Jon cleared up. "That was stupid of me, and I'm sorry for storming out like I did last week, and I'm also sorry I didn't contact you afterward to let you know I wasn't mad at you, or ignoring you," Jon apologized. "When I finally realized what 'father-figure' actually meant, I panicked. When I panic, I run. That's how I've always been, you know that. But I realize now running was actually my biggest mistake. I should have talked to you about this whole mess and got it sorted out before I left again, instead of running," Jon rambled. "I was a total mess all weekend. I wasn't easy to deal with; as Colby put it, I was a fucking bear. Joe and Colby both wanted to kill me. Not sure how they didn't; I was that bad," Jon told her.
He let that sink in before moving on to addressing her second concern. "As for us losing touch again, I don't want that either. I hated it just as much as you did when we lost touch after high school. I actually came looking for you when I was in Cincinnati for a show a couple years ago; before I got signed by WWE. But you had already moved, apparently. I had all but given up on us ever seeing each other again when I bumped into you in the club," Jon confessed.
To say Chasity was shocked by his admission was an understatement. She was for sure he'd forgotten she ever existed. Shaking away the shock, Chasity refocused herself and remembered what they had been talking about initially. "You're right, I do know how you get when you panic, and for that reason alone I should've made sure you understood what you were getting into when you said you wanted to be Kaleb's father-figure, but I was just as stupid as you, and I didn't. For that, I'm sorry." Jon shook his head.
"Stop apologizing."
"I can't help it. I feel bad, but I'll try to stop from now on," Chasity assured him. "But as for your little confession about coming to look for me, I have to admit, I figured you forgot I even existed after high school. I obviously never forgot you, but I assumed you had forgotten me. I mean, you didn't even recognize me at first when we saw each other in the club that night." Jon laughed.
"In my defense, I had already had three beers, the club was dark, and you grew up a lot since the last time I saw you. Last time I saw you, your hair was longer, your chest was flatter and you were quite a bit shorter. And it's not that I didn't recognize you, I did; it just took me awhile to put a face with a name."
"You actually checked out my chest," Chasity questioned, voice laced with some surprise. Jon laughed.
"Really, of all the things I just said, that's the only part you picked up on?"
"No, I heard the rest of it, and I agree; but that part took me by surprise a little bit." Jon shrugged.
"I'm a guy, of course I've checked out your chest. Kind of hard not to when we would get so close every time we were drunk." Chasity blushed a little bit. She never thought her best friend would look at her in that way, ever, for any reason.
"Well, this conversation just got really awkward," Chasity said, turning her head away from Jon trying to hide the obvious blush that prominent on her face.
"Yeah, it did, a little," Jon agreed. "Alright, let's find something else to talk about."
"Good idea."
After she agreed with him, they fell into a bit of an awkward silence until an idea popped into Chasity's head as she remembered what started this entire conversation to begin with. "I think I have a solution to the mess that started this whole conversation to begin with; naming Kaleb and you running out. Instead of me just throwing things at you about him, for you to give me your opinion, I will only make you participate in things you ask to participate in. Sound good," she questioned. Jon nodded.
"Sounds like a deal to me. So…," Jon trailed off and cleared his throat before continuing. "Uhh, are you still going to keep Jonathan as his middle name?" Chasity shrugged.
"After the drama that discussion caused, I'm honestly not sure. I have to think about it a bit more. I might, though. Why do you ask?"
Jon hated to admit it, but he was disappointed by that answer. His head dropped a bit at her answer. "Oh." He tried to cover the disappointment by quickly picking his head back up and looked her directly in the eyes. "I asked because I was curious. But what would you do if I told you I wanted you to make it his middle name," he questioned, hoping she'd change her mind about possibly not using it. Chasity chuckled.
"If that's what you want, then I'll do it," Chasity said. "I just told you, I'll only make you participate in what you want to participate in; if you want to participate in naming him, I can't really say no, now can I?" Jon shook his head.
"Nope, I guess you can't. Besides, Kaleb Jonathan does have a pretty good ring to it." Chasity smiled.
"You're right, it does. So then it's settled, his name will be Kaleb Jonathan Gains." Jon smiled.
"Perfect." Although, he wasn't so sure it was 'perfect' because babies were supposed to have their father's last name's; not their mother's, but given her circumstance, just like at the doctor's office, he decided he wouldn't mention that.
The two friends fell back into a silence after that. Only this time it was a more comfortable silence than before. They were only silent because neither was too sure what to say to the other. Finally it was Chasity, once again, breaking the silence. "So, do you wanna watch a movie, or something?" Jon shrugged.
"Sure, I have nothing better to do today." Jon eyed his luggage, which he had plopped down just inside the door earlier when he had gotten home; reminding him he had laundry to do before he headed back out on tour again. "Well, except my laundry, but I can do that tomorrow. Today I will dedicate to movie day with you," Jon responded, moving toward her to wrap his arm around her shoulders, playfully. Chasity laughed.
"Cool. So what movie do you wanna watch," she asked, walking over to his movie cabinet.
"You're the guest, you choose something," he said, standing up from the sofa to head toward the kitchen. "Although, I can tell you, you won't find any chick-flicks in there. Do you want some popcorn?" Chasity chuckled and shook her head, not at all surprised by that little tidbit.
"Popcorn sounds good. As for the chick-flicks, I never expected to. You're more of a horror movie kind of guy. If I found chick-flicks, I'd probably just assume they were ex-girlfriends, or something."
"Damn right," Jon shouted back causing Chasity to laugh once again.
"I'm more in the mood to watch a comedy or action flick anyway."
"I can live with one of those, and I know there are definitely plenty of those in there, too," Jon called from the kitchen.
Chasity was surprised he was actually letting her choose the movie. Back in the day whenever they'd have a 'movie day' he would always choose the movie just to force her to watch something she hated. It was all just to torture her. But apparently, just like her, he had changed and grown up a lot since then.
She browsed his movie collection for another five minutes or so before she finally decided on 'The Hangover'. She quickly popped it into the DVD player before sitting up on the sofa and waiting for Jon to come in with the popcorn. Jon walked back into the living room, freshly popped bowl of popcorn in his hands as he joined Chasity on the couch. Chasity hit the play button the remote and pulled her feet up underneath her to curl up. She leaned toward Jon so they could share the popcorn; while he had his feet propped up on his coffee table, popcorn on his lap, and his head resting back against the back of the top of the sofa.
By the middle of the movie Chasity had ditched the popcorn and fallen asleep using Jon's shoulder as a pillow. He could tell she was exhausted. He placed the now empty popcorn bowl on the table; most of which he'd eaten, which meant he'd have to work it off in the gym tomorrow. Good thing it was a fairly healthy snack. He wrapped his arm around the back of Chasity's shoulders to hold her in her place and make her a little more comfortable. As he let her continue to sleep he finished watching the movie.
Once it was finally over, Jon used the remote to stop the DVD and turn off the player and TV and closed his eyes. He had only intended on resting his eyes, but he must've fallen asleep because the next thing he realized Chasity was stirring beside him causing him to open his eyes. His apartment was cast in the afternoon's shadow, sun barely squeezing through the set of blinds on the far west side of the living room as it was slowly beginning to set.
Chasity woke up to light butterfly-like flutters in her stomach. Apparently Kaleb didn't like that mommy was getting some sleep and decided he wanted to let his presence be known.
Chasity glanced back over her shoulder to see what time it was, only to end up with her nose pressed into Jon's shoulder. Realizing she had been using Jon was her 'pillow', she sat up. Looking around the barely lit room she saw the sun barely squeezing through a set of blinds on the other side of Jon's living room. When she had fallen asleep, the sun had been brightly illuminating the room; now it was barely illuminating the room, which told her she'd been asleep for at least three hours or more. They had started the movie around one-thirty, and she had only made it about half way through. Now the movie was clearly over, and the sun was setting, so that had to mean it was roughly four, four-thirty, at the very least. She rubbed her arms and glanced back at Jon to see that he was now sitting up straight, silently watching her.
Jon felt Chasity moving around before she buried her nose into his shoulder causing him to open his eyes just as she was sitting up, taking in her surroundings. When she finally noticed him watching he smiled at her. "Did you have a nice nap?" Chasity smiled back as she ran her hand across her stomach. "Yeah, I did thanks. And I'm sorry for using you as a pillow." Jon shrugged and stretched his arms above his head as he pushed himself off the couch.
"Not a big deal."
Jon grabbed his phone from the coffee table to check the time. "Well, it's four-forty five. We really should eat. Are you cool with pizza?" Now it was Chasity's turn to give a shrug.
"I'll eat anything. Perhaps it'll calm Kaleb down. He woke me up when he started moving around. It's always such a weird feeling; similar to the feeling of butterflies fluttering in your stomach. But anyway, he's been moving around ever since." Jon chuckled.
"It sounds kind of freaky. Pepperoni sound good?" Chasity nodded.
"Whatever you want to order is fine with me."
Jon ordered both a pepperoni and cheese pizza and while they waited for them to arrive he decided to play a little game of twenty one questions with Chasity. "So, how'd you end up working at the club?" He knew the question was probably a little too strong for the first question asked, but he was curious, and as they say, curiosity killed the cat, so he was, in a sense, putting the noose around his own neck. And he didn't even care.
"What," Chasity questioned, taken off guard by his question. "The strip club, how'd you end up working there," he asked again. She shrugged. The annoyance at the question couldn't be hidden, even though Chasity tried desperately to do so.
"It was the only thing I could find when I first moved here. Much like now, no other jobs would hire me, so I had no choice. I had to make a living to pay my bills somehow." Jon nodded.
"But you stopped trying to search for a better job after that jackass hired you, didn't you? Why?"
Chasity looked around the room at everything except Jon. She wasn't sure she liked this game he was playing at all. Without a word Chasity just shrugged. She really didn't have an answer to that question. "I honestly have no idea why I stopped. I just did. I guess I decided I had a job and there was no reason to keep searching. So I stopped," she replied, just above a whisper. Jon angled himself toward her and grabbed both of her hands, squeezing them.
"Hey, if you don't want to talk about this, I'll stop. I'm just trying to figure out where things went wrong for you. You were so grounded during high school, despite your screwed up home life. I just never would've thought I'd bump into you again at a strip club, much less the one you were working at," Jon explained. "So, do you want me to stop," he questioned.
Chasity contemplated everything he'd said and shook her head. He deserved answers, or at least, as much information as she could give him. After all, he was helping her in her time of need and he didn't have to. He could have just let her fend for herself, but he didn't. He was definitely the definition of 'true friend' despite their ten year hiatus, so he deserved whatever answers he wanted; if she could give them. "No, you can keep asking." Jon nodded.
"Are you sure?" She shrugged and nodded.
"As sure as I'm ever gonna be."
"Okay. Why did you allow him to force you into a three-some?" Again Chasity had no answer.
"I don't have an answer for that, either. All I can tell you is that I didn't think I had a choice. He told me the two guys were to get 'whatever they wanted'," Chasity paused and rubbed her hands together, her nerves beginning to get the best of her. "I thought if I didn't do it I'd get fired and I couldn't afford that, so I did what they wanted me to." Chasity felt the tears building in her eyes and tried to swallow them, but the images of the three-some kept replaying in her head and she ultimately lost the battle.
Jon pulled her into his arms, rubbing her back. He hated seeing her like this. "I look back at it and I regret every moment of it. The whole situation makes me feel so dirty. I wish I hadn't felt like I needed that job, but at the time I believed I did; I didn't believe I had any other choice." Chasity pulled away from Jon and used her hand to wipe the tears off her face. Looking him in the eyes she continued. "But while I regret everything that happened that night, I do not regret my son. It's not Kaleb's fault he has a scumbag for a father," Chasity continued to sob. Jon pulled her back into his arms and pressed his cheek against her forehead and rocked her back and forth, trying to sooth her.
"It's not your fault, either. You didn't ask for this, it was forced upon you; they were forced upon you. You're strong, you'll get through this; I'll do my best to help you. Just let me know when you need help, and with what, and I'll do my best to help any way I can. Okay?" Chasity nodded, wiping the freshly fallen tears off her cheeks.
The pizza finally arrived and their conversation turned quiet. Despite the three hour nap Chasity had taken, she was getting tried again. Maybe it was the thoughts she couldn't get to leave her alone, as well as the stress from the conversation she'd had with Jon, or maybe it was something less obvious that was making her tired. She knew pregnancy could make you tired quickly; Doctor Mitchel had warned her of that, but she wasn't sure if this was part of that, or something else. All she did know was she wanted to eat and go back to sleep. "Jon, after we finish eating do you mind if I just crash in your spare room? I'm tired again, and I don't wanna try driving home like this." Jon nodded.
"Yeah, that's fine. Are you sure you're just tired," Jon asked, concern written all over his face. She nodded her head and gave him a reassuring smile.
"Yes. Doctor Mitchel says getting tired quickly is normal during pregnancy. I'm fine," Chasity informed him, before finishing off her last bite of pizza and walking her plate to the sink.
"Do you need anything to wear to sleep," Jon questioned, looking at her sweat pants and t-shirt. Chasity glanced at her clothes. "Nah, I'll just sleep in my t-shirt and panties." Jon gave a curt nod trying not to imagine her in panties. "Night, Jon." Jon nodded again.
"Night, Chas," he called as he watched her disappear down the hall way to his spare bedroom.
