Chapter Twenty
Jon broke the kiss and stepped back away from Chasity a little bit. He hadn't initially intended on kissing her; actually, at the start of their conversation the idea of kissing her had never crossed his mind, but in that moment it had felt right and he couldn't pass up the opportunity; he didn't want to pass it up. So when he saw it, he took it. "Sorry, I didn't intend on kissing you, but the opportunity was there and it felt right, so I decided I couldn't avoid it, and took it," Jon confessed, shrugging nonchalantly.
Chasity had a million emotions coursing through her head right now. She was happy he wanted to try a relationship, but frustrated because she couldn't control her hormones. Just the simple kiss he had just laid on her had her ready to throw caution to the wind and just go for it. But she kept reminding herself that having sex right now was a bad idea. They had just agreed to try out a relationship and they needed to take the time to make sure they had a chance to be together, and the relationship had a realistic chance of being a long-term thing before she could allow them to cross the invisible line to the more intimate part of a relationship.
The kiss hadn't even been intense. It was just a simple kiss on the lips; no tongue was involved at all, but thanks to her hormones being out of whack due to the pregnancy nothing had to be hot, or romantic; it just had to be sexual and her body would react whether she liked it, or not. She currently found herself fighting every fiber in her being not to push Jon back onto the bed and have her way with him.
Chasity hadn't moved, or said a word, since before the kiss. Jon was beginning to kick himself because he thought it was because of the kiss; in reality it was because she was afraid if she tried to do, or say, anything it would lead to them rolling around in the sheets together, naked. "Chas, please say something. I hate this shell you've suddenly drawn yourself into."
Going against her better judgment, she leaned back in toward him, pushed herself onto her tip-toes and pressed her lips against his. Jon was surprised by her actions, but despite the surprise he managed to return the kiss as Chasity used her hands to cup his face and deepen the kiss. Unlike their kiss earlier, this time, there was definitely tongue involved.
They continued their impromptu make out session for a while before the need for air forced them to separate. Instead of backing away like her head was telling her to do, and letting herself cool off, her hormones took over and she grabbed onto Jon's shoulders, trying to push him toward her bed. She didn't get far, though because as soon as he realized what exactly Chasity was attempting to do, Jon threw on the breaks by digging his heels into the carpeted floor of her bedroom. "Whoa, whoa, Chasity no," Jon exclaimed. Chasity turned toward him, a confused look now replaced the lustful one she had moments before. She couldn't understand why he was stopping her. He clearly wanted this as much as she did; didn't he? "I know exactly what you have in mind, and as attracted as I am, and as much as I'd love to, I am not sleeping with you," Jon told her, shaking his head to add emphasis to his words.
Now Chasity was really confused. Just five minutes ago he'd told her he wanted a relationship, but now suddenly he was saying he didn't want to have sex with her? Wasn't sex supposed to be a main part of relationships? He had clearly contradicted himself and wasn't making any sense. She wanted to tell him he was a jackass; that he could go to hell if he wanted a celibate relationship because there was no way she could handle that kind of relationship with him, but before she could say anything he added. "At least, not today."
Those four words managed to pick her mood back up. She still hated that he didn't want to sleep with her right now, but at least she still had hope of being with him one day and he wasn't saying it because he didn't want her like she had initially thought. Still, she couldn't help but wonder why he wanted to wait? "But why not today, Jon?" He smiled at her and took both of her hands into his.
"Because the way you want to do it is in 'one-night-stand, fuck 'em and leave 'em' style. That's not what you deserve, and for once in my life, that's not how I want it to go down. I want it to be special, and in a more romantic setting. So, I'm not letting it happen today," Jon explained. "You know I'm not a sap, and I'm not one for romance, so that should tell you how into you I truly am."
Chasity couldn't help the smile that spread across her face. While she had been shot down, and it didn't help her hormones one iota, Jon did have a point. She didn't like the idea of a 'one-night-stand' encounter. Especially not after the way she had gotten pregnant, or the way Jon had lived his life behind closed doors up to this point. "Well, if we can't have sex can we at least go watch a movie and cuddle in my bed?" Jon laughed and nodded.
"Sure, but why does it have to be in your bed? Why can't we go back to the living room and watch the movie and cuddle on the sofa," Jon questioned. Chasity smiled and led Jon the rest of the way to the bed and sat down on it; Jon remained standing.
"Because I'm pregnant and I'm tired, and the bed is a lot nicer to fall asleep on. I know for a fact I'm gonna be falling asleep during whichever movie we watch," Chasity informed him as she made herself comfortable on the bed. "So I want to watch in bed. I'll even be nice and let you choose which movie we watch this time means I'm making you watch it in my bed just to make me more comfortable."
While he hated the idea of being in her bed with her because of what had just nearly happened, he finally relented. "Alright, fine. But don't complain if I pick a movie that has the potential to scare you." Chasity chuckled.
"Pick whatever you want. Chances are, if it's in my collection of DVD's it's not going to scare me. But as I've already told you, I'm not gonna be able to stay awake anyway, so it doesn't matter whether it's a chick-flick, comedy, horror, or action because I'll be asleep before it's even halfway through." Jon shrugged and began digging through the pile of Chasity's DVD collection. Watching him dig through the cases, Chasity chuckled. "At this rate, I may even fall asleep before it starts if you don't hurry it up over there," Chasity joked. He was slowly flipping through each DVD one-by-one.
"Hey, picking the perfect movie to watch takes time, okay," Jon joked. "But if it bothers you that much, I have no problem randomly picking one without looking," Jon told her, covering his eyes with his hand as he plucked a random movie from the pile that laid in front of him.
Chasity opened her mouth to tell Jon choosing randomly, without looking, probably wasn't his wisest choice because she could see a couple chick-flicks in the pile she knew he'd despise watching. But before she could utter a word he'd already placed his hand over his eyes and yanked a movie out of the pile. The movie he was holding up for her to see made her burst into a fit of giggles. "What's so funny," he questioned, finally removing his hand from his eyes and opening them. Chasity couldn't talk through her fit of laughter, which had yet to cease, so she just pointed at the movie he had in his hand instead. Looking at the movie in his hands Jon cursed his luck. "No fucking way! Absolutely not! We are not watching this," Jon exclaimed. Chasity nodded her head.
"Oh, yes, we are. You said you were going to close your eyes and choose randomly, and that's what you did. You decided to choose randomly Jon, not me. I was only kidding when I told you to hurry it up, so the fact you chose to pick without looking it on you," Chasity admonished him. "Now, put the DVD into the player and get over here so we can snuggle because I'm tired and I want to take a nap before Kaleb starts moving and won't let me," Chasity told him, not leaving any room for him to argue.
He begrudgingly pulled the DVD from its case and placed it into her DVD player before turning the machine on and hitting play on the remote. He was definitely regretting his decision to choose a movie without looking after she gave him the go-ahead to choose the movie in the first place. He should've known she was only messing with him when she told him to hurry up; that was her nature, she was a jokester. A lot like he tended to be. He felt dumb for not picking up on that when he had a chance to choose a better movie.
"Are you gonna stand there and watch it, or come up here and snuggle with me," Chasity questioned as the previews that played before the movie began rolling on the screen. Shaking the disgust for the movie from his mind, he finally crawled up to the top of the bed, climbed underneath the blankets and made himself comfortable beside Chasity as the movie he'd mistakenly picked began playing. "You know, this movie really isn't that bad. It's a true love story. We may end up having this type of thing many, many years down the road." Jon laughed dryly.
"No offense, but if we were to end up together forever, and you ended up with Alzheimer's when we were grey and old, and you couldn't remember any of our family, I'm not sure I'd have the heart to sit with you every day like this guy did and read from some notebook," Jon confessed. "And it wouldn't be because I don't love you anymore, but because I couldn't stand to sit next to the women I love and know she has no idea who the hell I am."
Chasity wasn't sure how to feel about that revelation, but she decided it wasn't worth worrying about right now. Their relationship wasn't even a day old yet. They didn't even know if they'd make it another day, or a week, let along fifty-years, so there was no point in knit picking about it. Instead she cuddled up next to Jon and started watching the movie, just waiting for sleep to overtake her.
Jon couldn't believe he was sitting here watching this movie. A movie he never would have ever watched by himself. But here he sat. The only reason he hadn't turned the damn movie off yet is because he couldn't reach the remote. He'd laid it on the night stand after he'd hit the play button earlier and where he was he knew he wouldn't be able to reach the table without moving, which would shift Chasity, too and that would likely wake her up. In her current state she needed as much sleep as she could get, so Jon decided to grin and bear it.
After a few more minutes of staring aimlessly at the TV, and not taking in any of the movie, Jon decided Chasity had a better idea than this movie. Sliding down further into the bed to get more comfortable, he tuned the movie out and snuggled up even closer to Chasity. Before he even realized it he too found himself drifting off to dream land. Definitely a much better option than the movie he'd blindly pulled from the pile and was forced to watch about an hour before. Chasity had been right when she said she wouldn't make it to the halfway point of the movie, but that was okay because neither did Jon.
