Chapter Thirty

Chasity woke up the next morning, still cuddled up against Jon. Sitting up she pushed the blankets off of herself and got up off the bed. Just as she took a step away from the bed, Jon sat bolt upright. "Where are you going," he questioned, panic clear in his tone.

"Would you relax? I'm just going to the bathroom," Chasity informed him. "Dear lord, you would think I was running away, or something," she mumbled, shaking her head.

"Sorry, but I felt you get up and with all the excitement from yesterday I got worried."

"If I was in labor, don't you think I would've woken you up like I did the last time," she questioned. "Come on, Jon, think, would ya," Chasity chastised. He knew she had a point. This whole baby thing really had him literally on edge. While there was part of him that was petrified of stepping into fatherhood, there was another part that couldn't wait just so he could finally calm down and stop panicking every time Chasity did something.

"I'm sorry. I don't mean to be overbearing," he told Chasity as she returned to the bed after using the restroom. She shook her head.

"I know you don't, and I know you're just concerned about me and Kaleb, but you have to trust that I'll tell you when something is wrong." Jon nodded.

"I know. I'm trying here, Chas."

"I know, and I appreciate that more than you'll ever know," Chasity admitted. "Just promise me, you'll try to trust me with everything now," she asked. Jon nodded.

"I can't promise I'll be able to, but I can promise I'll try my hardest." Chasity smiled.

"That's all I ask." She leaned over and pressed a small kiss against his lips.

Chasity laid her had down on Jon's chest as he ran his fingers through her hair; scratching her scalp every so often. It felt so good Chasity began to doze back off until Jon's voice broke through the fog of her sleepy brain. "So, what happened with that bitch yesterday at the shower?" Chasity didn't want to talk about it, but she knew she couldn't avoid it forever, and if she put it off, it would only get harder to talk about later.

"Tara set up a game where all the girls got a chance to try to guess Kaleb's full name based on his initials, which were on the cake. She did that on purpose. She was gonna put his name, but then the game idea popped into her head because she knew we hadn't really told anybody his name," Chasity informed him. "Anyway, the idea of the game was to have everyone write their guesses down on little pieces of paper, fold them in half, and hand them to me," Chasity explained the gist of the game. "Well, needless to say, nobody ever did get his first name right, but Galina and Leighla did manage to guess his middle and last names," Chasity told Jon. "After I had opened and read off each and every girl's guess, I finally announced K.J.G stood for Kaleb Jonathan Good because we were going to be naming him after his daddy." Chasity felt the tears threatening to spill again just thinking about the mess that had taken place the day before, all over the name she had chosen for her son. But she refused to show any sign of weakness, and crying, in her eyes, was weakness. Jon continued to rub her back, trying to keep her as calm as possible and not to force her to talk about it too fast. Her current condition meant excitement of any kind was a huge risk, so he didn't want her getting too excited about this mess. She'd been overly excited enough the day before, she didn't need to risk it anymore.

"Take your time, babe. I know this isn't easy to talk about, and your condition makes it even harder because you shouldn't be getting too excited about these things," Jon acknowledged. Chasity squeezed her eyes shut, determined not to shed any more tears over the shit Catalina had pulled. After a few more minutes of silence, while she collected herself, Chasity finally felt she could continue.

"When I mentioned you were going to be who Kaleb knew as his daddy, that's when Catalina started. She decided it'd be a great time to take a stab at me by mentioning that you weren't his biological father," Chasity continued to fill Jon in on the pieces of the puzzle he had missed the previous day. "I wasn't going to lie, so I told everyone what all went down when Kaleb was conceived. Catalina then accused me of crying rape because I used the word 'forced' in my explanation, which caused me to go into further detail so everyone knew what exactly I had meant when I used the word 'forced'," Chasity explained to him, her voice beginning to crack. She felt Jon wrap his arms tighter around her letting her know he was listening to every word and knew how much it was hurting her.

Listening to Chasity explain what the bitch did to her made Jon's blood boil all over again. He couldn't believe this bitch had the audacity to show up to Chasity's baby shower and pull this shit. If it wasn't illegal, he was pretty sure he'd go hunt her down right now and kill her. "I told them all I didn't like what I did, but I did do it willingly because my job security was being threatened, and at the time I couldn't afford to lose it. I also told them if you hadn't come back into my life right when you did I'd probably still be there doing the degrading shit that jackass was making me do." Jon shook his head furiously. "You are essentially my hero, Jon," Chasity realized and admitted for the first time ever. Jon's anger melted a little at her words.

"Nah. You're strong, Chas. You managed to make it through ten years without me, you'd have made it even longer if you had to. Fate just so happened to intervene, that's all."

"Maybe so, but without you I never would've had the strength to tell Mr. Smith to go fuck himself. I'd likely still be there, catering to his every whim right now," Chasity admitted. "In all honesty, if we hadn't started talking again, and I was still working there, chances are, I'd have probably lost Kaleb," Chasity flinched at the realization. "There's no way I would have been able to carry this far into my pregnancy if I was still working there. Not with all the stress and shit that goes on around there," Chasity confessed.

Jon knew she was right, but he hated thinking about it, so he decided they needed a subject change. "Well, I'm glad fate threw us a curve ball and brought you back into my life. I'm also glad we decided to give this relationship thing a shot. I'm not sure what I'd do without you," Jon admitted. Chasity smiled.

"We're each others heroes." Jon nodded.

"I can live with that." Chasity lifted her head and looked up at his face, a small smile still gracing her features.

"Speaking of living, I have something I want to run by you. You don't have to give me an immediate answer if you don't want to, I'm just giving you the idea to think about," she told him. Jon nodded.

"Okay, what's your idea," he asked.

"Well, I've been thinking, I'm here an awful lot. I'm here even when you're out on the road. Hell, I'm here more than I am at my own apartment," Chasity acknowledged. "My lease is up at the end of next month, so I have to start deciding whether I'm going to renew it or give my landlord notice that I'm moving out."

Jon knew exactly where she was going, and he didn't even have to think about it. "And you want to move in with me, right?" Chasity cringed and nodded nervously. His voice was completely neutral, but she wasn't sure if that was a good or bad thing. "Sounds like a great idea to me," Jon said. Chasity was so lost in her own thoughts thinking about how she'd raise a baby between two apartments, or how she'd tell her landlord she was moving, if Jon agreed to this. She hadn't quite heard him when he was talking, so she continued.

"You have time to think about it, there's no need to…" before she could finish, she realized what Jon had said. "Wait, you actually want me to move in with you," she asked. She honestly wasn't expecting him to be for it immediately. She figured he'd need time to warm up to the idea. That was Jon. The only thing he ever jumped into head first, and without a second thought, was wrestling. Everything else required careful consideration. That was just the life they had grown up in. Jon nodded.

"I would love to have you here every time I come home from the road. And I would love nothing more than to be able to bring Kaleb home from the hospital and not have to show him two different places he would be calling 'home'," Jon admitted. "So, the answer to your question is yes, you can move in with me. And the sooner, the better," he told her. Chasity was so happy she sat up just enough to reach his face before placing a soft kiss on his lips.

Shortly after they made the living together decision, Chasity dozed off. Pulling away from the cuddling position, Jon made sure Chasity was warm enough before walking out to the living room and surveying all the baby items. A lot of it had to be put together and he wasn't sure when he'd have the time to do that with his road schedule. Sighing, he headed into what would eventually be Kaleb's nursery. The walls were already painted a light blue and the trim was painted in a tannish-beige color that Chasity had liked when they were choosing paint for what would now be Kaleb's only nursery. Jon spotted the crib and changing table that were sitting in their boxes, neatly leaning against the far wall an idea popped into his head. He had today and tomorrow off, Chasity was napping, and he currently had nothing better to do.

Once he was sure he had all the proper tools, Jon opened the crib box, pulled out the directions, and set to work, following the words on the paper step by step. Most guys would have said fuck the directions and just winged it; hoping the crib didn't collapse with the baby in it. And usually, Jon would have done the same thing. But this wasn't just any crib, it was his son's crib. So he immediately decided using the direction was the only option.

A couple of the steps listed on the instructions were confusing, and it took him longer than he would have liked, but after about an hour and a half the barred rails that had initially looked like random pieces of a fence were now slowly beginning to resemble that of a crib. He tightened the last screw into place and stood up off the floor, admiring his handy work. For having never done anything of this nature before, he had to say he'd done a pretty damn good job. Grabbing the mattress that belong inside the four walled bed, he plopped it in and pushed it down into place using all his strength. When it didn't cause the enclosure to collapse he knew he had done it the right way, and he couldn't help the proud smile that had spread across his face.

Jon was in a building mood now, and as a result, he set to work on the changing table while Chasity continued to quietly nap in their bedroom. After another few hours he had gotten the changing table, swing and bouncy seat all put together, and his next task was the stroller and car seat travel system that was still being stored in its box in the corner of the living room beside the couch. Just as he had opened the box and dumped the pieces of the stroller onto the floor he heard Chasity scream from their bedroom. Panic shot through his entire body, and he quickly shoved the stroller pieces away from him as he jumped onto his feet and took off toward their bedroom.
