Author's Note: Alright guys, I've been working hard on this story for the last week; I'm up to Thirty Five in a half chapters(so almost thirty six). I'm gonna attempt to post one more chapter before I leave for a week to go to Florida for my cousin's wedding. We're staying in a hotel, so I should have internet access. But in case I don't, I'll try not to leave you guys hanging. So here's this update, and with any luck I'll have another posted by Wednesday night before we leave. Maybe I'll post it after I get home from the taping of Smackdown this coming Tuesday night; that is, if my muse cooperates and I manage to get the rest of chapter thirty six complete by then. Here's hoping!
In any event, just wanted to bring you up to speed just in case I should fail to get it posted and can't post while I'm away. Want to make you sure know I didn't forget about this story, I just didn't have a way of posting.
But anyway, for now, enjoy chapter thirty three!
Chapter Thirty Three
It had been six hours since Kaleb's unplanned early birth. Jon and Chasity had officially worked out their little lover's quarrel; wherein they had actually verbally apologized to each other for everything they'd each said; Chasity more so than Jon, obviously. Chasity, knowing how Jon had a tendency of apologizing just to avoid a situation he wasn't fond of and just wanted to forget about decided to keep asking him if he really had forgiven her; not believing he truly had let it go that easily; that was never Jon's style.
"Are you sure we're okay," Chasity questioned for what had to be the hundredth time in the past four hours.
"YES," Jon griped through clenched teeth, as loudly as he could inside the confines of the NICU. "If you ask me that question one more time, I'm going to leave for a few hours. You've asked at least a hundred times in the last four hours, and I have given you the same unchanged answer every single time," Jon pointed out, emphasizing unchanged. "Now, stop asking, or I'm leaving, and I really don't wanna do that because Kaleb needs us both here, but I can't take the questioning assault anymore," Jon admitted. With that, Chasity realized he was being honest with her and quickly backed off as they sat watching Kaleb as he continued to adjust nicely to his new surroundings despite his prematurity.
Once she was finally content with Jon, Chasity had gotten the nurses to update Kaleb's charts, adding his first name onto it as well as having them add it onto the little ID card attached to the side of his isolette. She wanted to make sure all the nurses taking care of him knew his name. She refused to have him called 'Baby Boy Good' the entire time he was here. Not because she had anything against Jon's last name, but because her son deserved his own identity, and having him go by his last name only wouldn't allow that.
Due to the Cardiac Respiratory Monitor they had Kaleb hooked up to prevented Chasity and Jon from being allowed to hold him. Cara explained that if the wires of the Cardiac monitor were jostled it could cause the monitor to become detached. But she also assured them that as soon as they were able to remove the monitor, the proud parents would be able to hold him as much as they wanted for as long as they wanted. So instead of holding Kaleb like they had hoped they'd be able to, they were taking turns just talking to him and rubbing whatever extremity their hands could reach through the holes on the sides of the isolette – his arms, legs, feet – no extremity went untouched. They wanted him to know they were there and didn't plan on going anywhere any time soon.
Kaleb had just awoken again after a nice long three hour nap when the new nurse on duty, Sara, came to tell them that the maternity ward nurses were requesting that Chasity please return to her room so she could eat her dinner; we'll also feed Kaleb and administer any meds he needs while you're eating. Chasity frowned at that. Not only because she didn't want to leave Kaleb at all, but also because thanks to her last stay she knew just how gross the hospital food was. But she kept that fact to herself, instead inquiring about visiting her son again tonight. "Are we allowed to come back after I eat dinner," she questioned.
"Of course," the nurse exclaimed. "We never discourage parents from visiting their babies. In fact, we do the exact opposite, we wholeheartedly encourage parents to visit their babies as often as they'd like, and as often as is possible, of course," she informed them.
"Even after visiting hours have ended," Chasity questioned. Sara nodded.
"Numerous studies have shown that babies tend to fight to live and ultimately thrive when their parents and other loved ones are constantly around, so we encourage parents, as well as close family members to be here as often as they possibly can," She told them. "Parents are the only ones allowed in after visiting hours end, but loved ones – such as grandparents – are allowed in from eight in the morning when visiting hours start until eight at night when they end," she advised. "It lets the baby know they're loved and wanted, and therefore gives them the strength to battle whatever medical issues they may be having," she told them. "As of now, Kaleb doesn't have any major issues, but I'm sure he still loves knowing you love him enough to be by his bed side as often as possible. So yes, after you finish eating you can come back until it's time for bed if you'd like," she assured. Chasity thanked her before Jon wheeled her back to her room so she could eat.
While Chasity absolutely hated the idea of leaving Kaleb's bed side, she knew she had to eat something. She hadn't eaten anything since dinner last night, and even that wasn't very much. So even if she did despise the crud the hospital liked to pass off as food she was going to force herself to eat it even if that meant choking down every last bite.
Looking at the mushy mess before her on the tray she wasn't even sure what it was supposed to be it was so deformed looking. The menu she was given said it was chicken pot pie with a side of apple sauce. The apple sauce at least resembled apple sauce, but the other thing she was looking at did not look anything like chicken pot pie. However, she had to admit she was hungry, and she definitely knew she had to eat as best she could to keep her strength up if not for her own sake, than for Kaleb's, so she began force feeding herself the goop before her.
Means he wasn't eating at the moment, Jon decided to excuse himself to go outside and call Paul and Stephanie. When Paul answered the phone, Jon made sure he was with Stephanie and then requested to be put on speaker, so he could quickly fill the both of them in on what had happened and what was currently going on. Being parents themselves, they totally understood.
"Don't worry about work right now, Jon, just focus on your girlfriend and son," Stephanie told him.
"I'll let Joe know what's going on so he can get the PR team working on a write up to be released through our official website," Paul said, referring to WWE's head public rep, Joe Villa.
"Thanks guys. I'll keep you up to date as best I can with everything that's going on," Jon told them.
"No problem, Jon," Stephanie said. "Oh, and I wanna see a photo of the little guy ASAP," she quickly added. Jon chuckled.
"As soon as we're able to take a few, I'll be sure to text you one. It's been so chaotic, we haven't taken any photos with him, or of him yet," Jon informed her.
"Well, send one as soon as you have one," she said. "Maybe, if you send it before the press release, and with Chasity and your permission, of course, we can include it with the release online," Stephanie said, voicing her inner thoughts out loud. Jon grimaced not liking the idea much.
"I don't know about that, Steph. You know how I am about keeping my personal life out of the spotlight," Jon reminded her. "I'll tell you what, the best I can do for you right now is agree to think about it, run the idea by Chasity and get back to you in a couple days. Sound good," Jon asked. Stephanie knew the idea was a shot in the dark, and being that she herself had done her best to keep her three daughters out of the public eye she knew and completely understood where he was coming from. However, it was still worth a try.
"You know I totally understand where you're coming from about keeping him out of the public eye, but I'm sure you know I still had to give it a try," Stephanie chuckled. "But yes, think about it, run it by Chasity and get back to me with a definite answer when you're ready. In the meantime, please do keep us up to date on the baby's progress and let us know how everything is going with Chasity. For our part, we'll take care of writing you out of the storylines for the next few weeks," she told him.
"I will. Thanks," Jon said before hanging up the phone.
His sudden, unplanned, absence would likely complicate The Shield's television spots, but creative would have to come up with some good, creative, reason why 'Dean Ambrose' had just randomly disappeared on-screen. Though, most fans would know the true reason, thanks to the statement released online about where he truly was; however there were the odd "old school" fans who didn't pay attention to internet releases about backstage, real life issues, and only went along with what the storyline said. So creative would have to find a way to write him off TV for a few weeks and make it believable so fans weren't calling them out about it. But that's what creative was for; to help the superstars and divas tell 'stories' in the ring, and fix things in sudden situations, such as this.
Speaking of The Shield, Jon realized he hadn't called Joe or Colby yet. Figuring Chasity was probably still trying to figure out a way to choke down the disgusting mush hospitals liked to pass off as food, he decided to three-way them and fill them in at the same time. Finding both names in his contacts list, he quickly set up a three-way call and hit send. Hearing both of them answer at the same time was kind of comical considering it was a three-way call and they weren't together on speaker phone, but he managed to suppress his laugh. "Hey guys."
"What's up, uce," Joe asked, using the Samoan term for 'bro'.
"I just wanted to let you guys know I won't be on the road for at least the next few weeks. Chasity's water broke this morning, obviously triggering labor again; only this time, it wasn't stoppable due to the fact her water had already broken, so she delivered the baby early," Jon told his brethren. "Kaleb Jonathan Good weighed in at five pounds, seven ounces and was seventeen in a half inches long. He weighs as much as a small full-term baby, so his weight isn't an issues; however, he's currently in the NICU due to respiratory prematurity. But he's doing quite well, right now. Only on oxygen, no respirator, and Cara – his nurse – says he's actually been improving more since birth, which is odd for preemies because they usually regress before getting better, but the first twenty-four to forty-eight hours are always the toughest because anything can happen at any time, so he's not technically out of the woods yet," Jon informed them.
"Holy shit, dude. I'm guessing Chasity is a mess," Colby asked.
"She is, but she was a lot worse earlier," Jon told them. "We actually ended up having an argument after he was born because she sent me to the NICU to make sure he was okay, and while I was there Cara clued me in on all the machines they have him hooked to, as well as informed me of everything that was going on with him, and instead of reporting everything back to Chasity immediately, I sat in the NICU with Kaleb for nearly an hour," Jon told them. "Needless to say, when I got back to her room she wasn't happy; and I knew she wasn't going to be, given her hormones being out of whack due to giving birth, and of course the seriousness of this entire situation doesn't help anything," Jon said, remembering what he'd read from the book Chasity had, as well as what Joe had told him when they talked a few weeks ago after Chasity's first premature labor scare. "So my initially plan had been to go into her room and just let her yell at me until her heart was content," Jon told them. "But then she decided to throw the fact that Kaleb isn't biologically mine back in my face," Jon said, fighting back the anger at the pain he had felt when that sentence had left her mouth.
"Wow dude, that's fucked up," Colby said, with Joe mumbling an 'Uh-huh' in agreement.
"Yeah, that's what I basically told her before I left the room to go back to Kaleb. I was afraid if I stuck around her room I'd end up saying something I'd really regret later; much like she did," he said. "But yeah, it's been one hell of a roller coaster filled day." He ran his fingers through his hair, pushing it back out of his face.
"Yeah, I'd say so," Colby chimed in.
"So I'm guessing she has since apologized," Joe questioned.
"She's apologized and asked me if I was sure everything was okay so many times it got to a point where I got fed up with it and told her if she apologize again and asked me if I was really okay one more time, I was leaving the hospital for a few hours. After that, she finally backed off," Jon told them. "Now she's eating dinner, which is why I'm on the phone. I came outside to call Paul and Stephanie to fill them in so they could get me off the road and let creative start working on writing me out for a bit. After I hung up with them I realized I had yet to fill you guys in. So I decided while I'm outside I might as well call you, too because this effects you as much professionally as it does me," Jon said.
"It affects us personally, too, uce. You're family to us," Joe said.
"Yeah, what he said," Colby added, agreeing with Joe.
"Thanks, guys."
"Don't mention it. So what did Paul and Stephanie say," Joe asked.
"Not to worry about work. They'll have Joe get the PR staff to release a statement through the website and creative will somehow find a believable way to write me off TV for a few weeks. They also want me to be keep them informed on Kaleb's progress and how Chasity is doing; which I'll most definitely do," Jon said. "Oh, and Steph wants to see a picture of Kaleb, but I don't have any yet."
"You didn't take any in the delivery room," Joe asked, a little surprised.
"I was so worried about what was going to happen to him next, I never even thought about it; you know how I am with technology. It's the furthest thing from my mind on a normal day, so you can imagine how far out of my thought process it was today," Jon said.
"Well, that's true," Joe admitted, chuckling.
"Well, keep us informed too, dude," Colby chimed in, changing the subject.
"Yeah, for sure," Joe added.
"I will," Jon responded. "If you guys can and you want to, feel free to come out here and drop by the hospital. You know, if you have free time. I know work is hectic and it doesn't leave much time for extracurricular stuff, but if you can squeeze it in, feel free," Jon said. "But for right now, I better get back to Chasity so we can get back to the NICU. I'm afraid if I keep her waiting too long she might bite my head off again," Jon chuckled.
"Alright uce. I'm definitely gonna try to make it there before we have to head out on the road again. I'll talk to Galina and see if she wants to come with me. I know she'd love to see the baby and Chasity. If so, and my mom can keep JoJo for a few days, so she won't miss any school time, I'll send you a text message letting you know we're coming," Joe said. "Even if Galina can't come because my mom can't watch JoJo, I'll still stop by on my own; if for no other reason than to make sure Stephanie gets to see a picture of the little guy," Joe half joked, trying to lighten the mood a little. Jon shook his head – even though neither of his teammates could see him – but remained silent.
"Yeah, and I'm gonna go talk with Leighla, see what – if anything – she has going on, and maybe we'll be able to come out. I'll text you and let you know," Colby said. Jon smiled.
"Thanks, guys. I'll talk to you later," Jon said. They agreed before they all hung up and Jon headed back into the hospital to see how Chasity was doing.
