Author's Note: So, first things first, sorry this chapter took me so long to get posted, I ran into writers block in the middle of it, and then last week I got sick(again) so I didn't feel like doing much of anything. But I'm feeling better now, and decided I should try to get this up so I can post the epilogue and get started on the other story, so I can hopefully, MAYBE, post a sequel for this some time down the line.
And on another note, some of you may have noticed that I deleted Unknown Secrets from his Past as well as the little 'one shots' and such that I wrote that went along with it. I honestly didn't like the way Unknown Secrets turned out. Compared to THIS story, and other stories I have read, it moved entirely too fast for my liking, and was really just blah, to say the least. So I deleted it. I may re-write it, as well as the one-shot sequels that were with it, some time later, but I'm not sure, and I refuse to make any promises anymore because I couldn't keep the last one. So all I'll say is, it may or may not come back. For now I am fully committed to focusing on finishing up this story and getting my new story Love in Unexpected Places started. For those that haven't read that one yet, so far it has a prologue posted. Chapter one is written out in a notebook, but I have to type it up yet, but given it's written out, typing it out shouldn't be too hard, so that and posting it should be happening fairly soon, so keep an eye out on that.
Now, onto the next to last chapter(not including the epilogue; so officially two chapters left) for Old Friends, New Lovers.
Chapter Forty Three
It had been a month since Jon and Chasity had their discussion about running away from their issues. He had returned to the WWE tour, and Chasity was at home with Kaleb alone for the first time since he was born. It was nerve wracking, to say the least, and on top of that she was currently battling some type of stomach illness. She couldn't seem to keep anything she ate down except ginger ale and saltine crackers, but even those made her stomach roll at times. It also didn't help that Kaleb had been cranky the past two days and the only thing that calmed him down was being held. When battling to avoid puking the last thing anyone wanted to deal with was a crying infant clinging to them; but that was the battle new mother's dealt with on a nearly daily basis, sick or not.
Grabbing her phone she called Tara, hoping she'd be willing to come take care of Kaleb for a few hours, so she could lay down and try to get her stomach to calm down. Finding her number she listened to the other end of the phone ring as she softly bounced a wide, teary eyed Kaleb in her arms, the bouncing doing nothing but upsetting her stomach further. Tara picked up after about four rings. "Hey girly, what's up," she inquired.
"Hey, can you do me a big favor," Chasity questioned, avoiding small talk and getting straight to the point.
"That depends, what's the favor," Tara joked.
"Can you come watch Kaleb for me for a few hours? I feel like complete crap and he's being a super clingy bugger today," Chasity explained. "Every time I put him down, he screams until I pick him back up."
"Sure. Give me a few minutes to get ready and I'll be over to give you a hand," Tara said, hanging up the phone after Chasity thanked her. Chasity tossed her phone onto the coffee table and sat down on the sofa to wait for Tara.
As soon as Tara knocked on the door, Chasity jumped up as fast as she could and opened the door. "Thank you so much," she exclaimed as she gently shifted Kaleb over to her best friend. "He's been cranky for the last two days, and he won't do anything if he's not being held; including sleep. Every time I'd put him down after he's dozed off, he wakes right back up and starts screaming," Chasity informed her. "I guess we spoiled him unintentionally, and now Jon is gone and I'm left here to deal with it by myself, and to make matters worse, I am battling some type of flu or stomach bug, or something. I can't keep anything but ginger ale and saltines down, but even those make my stomach roll most times. So, as you can imagine dealing with a cranky, seemingly spoiled baby is not helping," Chasity informed her.
"I'm sure you're sleep deprived, too, so that's not helping, either. Maybe you'll feel better after you get a couple hours of sleep," Tara said. Chasity shrugged.
"If I'm sleep deprived it's not because of Kaleb. He's much like his father; he absolutely loves his sleep. If you wake him up, he's a total grouch." Tara laughed.
"Speaking of Jon, when's he due to come home," Tara asked.
"He said he booked a late flight for tomorrow night after they're finished taping SmackDown, so probably around two AM, or so on Wednesday morning," Chasity said, shrugging. "I've video chatted with him a couple of times. Kaleb loves it. Especially when Jon talks to him." Tara laughed.
"Jon using technology? Isn't that dangerous," Tara laughed. "I take it that has to be a sign Mr. Kaleb has daddy wrapped around his little finger already, huh," Tara joked again. Chasity chuckled and nodded.
"He has since well before he was even born; it's just gotten worse since he's been born, that's all," Chasity responded. "I'll be honest, I never thought Jon would be a dad, but to his credit, now that he is, he's done a great job with Kaleb; especially after he found out he was biologically his," Chasity admitted. "Alright, let me go lay down. I'll be back in a couple hours. Hopefully by then, I'll be feeling better," Chasity said, walking into the bedroom and pushing the door closed.
Chasity woke up to her stomach rolling. She actually felt worse than she had before she had fallen asleep. Standing up, she mentally willed her stomach not to rebel as she walked out of the bedroom and immediately made a beeline for the kitchen to grab the bottle of ginger ale. But as she quickly learned, she should've ran for the bathroom because before she could open the bottle, or take a sip of the yellowish-greenish-golden liquid to try to calm her severely upset stomach, the smell of sour cream and onion chips - which Tara had apparently opened to snack on and forgotten about on the counter top - caught her nose. Throwing her hand over her mouth, she dove for the trash can just as her stomach gave one final roll of fair warning before the contents of her stomach resurfaced.
Hearing a raucous in the kitchen, Tara sat Kaleb into his bouncy seat, strapped him in, and turned on the vibration feature before walking into the other room to see what was going on. Seeing Chasity with her head shoved into the trash can as she dry heaved was not what she had expected to see, but she recovered from her slight shock quickly. "Oh girl. I take it you don't feel any better," she remarked, as she grabbed Chasity's hair and held it away from her face. Chasity shook her head as she took a few deep breaths to will the nausea away.
"Can you please get rid of the sour cream and onion chips that you left open on the table," she requested. Tara furrowed her brow, confused by the request, considering they were Chasity's favorite flavor chip, but she shrugged it off.
"Sure," she responded, snagging the bag of the counter and folding it closed before placing it back in the cabinet above the sink. "Boy this stomach bug must really have a hold on you. You never turn down sour cream and onion chips." Chasity had finally removed herself from the trash can and walked over to the sink to rinse her mouth out as a lightbulb lit up in Tara's head. "Chas, I don't mean to freak you out or anything, but didn't sour cream and onion chips make you nauseous when you were pregnant with Kaleb," Tara asked. Chasity nodded.
"Yeah, in the very beginning of the pregna...ncy... Oh no," she shrieked as she grabbed the calendar off the wall to see what todays date was.
"I know it's none of my business, but have you and Jon had unprotected sex since you were cleared by your doctor for sex," Tara questioned. Chasity slapped her hands over her face half out of shock, half out of stupidity. "I'll take that as a yes," Tara surmised. "Alright, well means Kaleb is finally napping in his bouncy seat, you just sit and relax. I will be back in ten minutes. We're gonna get to the bottom of this today," Tara said taking her phone and keys and walking out the door, leaving a still shocked Chasity in her wake.
Chasity couldn't believe they had been so stupid and careless. If she was pregnant; which she was fairly sure she was given she had all the signs, there was absolutely no doubt about when this baby was conceived. She and Jon had only had sex the one day because then they had the argument and once that was sorted out, all their focus was turned on Kaleb until a few days ago when Jon had headed back out on the road. She wasn't thinking about protection on the day in question; she was only thinking about one thing, and clearly that was stupid because look where that had gotten her. This had the potential to be an absolute disaster once Jon found out.
Tara came back in twenty minutes later with more ginger ale and saltines, along with three boxes containing three different home pregnancy tests. "Here, go take all three of these and let's find out if we're gonna be dealing with another baby Good or not," Tara chuckled, trying to lighten the mood with a joke, but Chasity wasn't in the mood for any jokes. Tara bit her lip when she saw how serious her friend was she grabbed the tests off the table and headed toward the bathroom. "If you are pregnant, it's not the end of the world, Chas. So you guys made a mistake, it's not the first time, and I assure you it will not be the last. Relax," Tara exclaimed.
"Tara, I can't relax. Maybe it's not the end of the world to you, nor a huge mistake, but to me, it's pretty damn close. I have a three-month-old, adding another baby to the mix when I'm practically a single mother as it is, is not what I wanted to do right now," Chasity snapped. Tara shook her head.
"You are not a single mother, and this baby; if it does exist, is not a mistake. No baby is a mistake, so don't say that again," Tara harshly demanded. If there was one things he hated, it was babies being referred to as 'mistakes'.
"My boyfriend is on the road five out of seven days of the week, so yes I am a single mother," Chasity stated, matter-of-factly. "And I wasn't calling the baby a mistake, I was calling the action a mistake. We should've used protection and we were stupid and careless enough to lose our heads and forget," Chasity practically sobbed.
"Okay, fair enough. But you and I both know if Jon heard you say that you were a single mother, he would be pissed. It's like you're condemning him for being on the road three hundred plus days a year because he's doing the job he loves," Tara chastised her. "He's not the only one to blame here; you both share fifty percent responsibility," Tara pointed out as Chasity placed each now taken test side-by-side to await the results.
"I am not condemning or blaming him, I'm just stating a fact. He's on the road five out of the seven days of the week. That, for all intents and purposes, makes me a single mother. It's just a fact. One I have come to accept; especially over the last few days," Chasity stated.
What neither of them had heard over their arguing was the opening and closing of the front door. Jon was home a day earlier than expected. He wasn't needed for the SmackDown taping, so he asked Vince if he could go home a day early to spend a little extra time with Chasity and Kaleb; to which Vince obviously obliged.
So Jon had quickly traded in his original flight for an earlier one, and now here he stood. From the entrance way of the condo he could see Kaleb sleeping in his bouncy seat in the middle of the living room as Chasity and Tara argued from within the bathroom. He creeped down the hallway, not wanting them to know he was there just yet. Peaking around the wall, and through the semi-cracked open door, both girls had their backs to it and due to its angle neither of them would be able to see his reflection in the mirror, so he stayed right where he was at as he listened to Tara ram Chasity for something she had said before Jon had entered the condo.
As he listened to them continue to argue, he surveyed their surrounding area, trying to figure out why they had chosen the bathroom of all places to hold an argument. He knew girls went to the bathroom in packs at clubs and bars, but at home? He could understand not wanting to argue in the same room as Kaleb, but wouldn't it have made more sense to argue in, say, the bedroom, or even the kitchen? Why the bathroom? That's when Chasity moved to the left just enough for Jon to see the three pregnancy tests lined up across the sink counter in front of her. His eyes bugged out of his head and he backed away from the door until his back hit the opposing wall, leaving him no choice but to stop backing up.
Now a whole new batch of questions swirled in his head. Whose tests were they, Chasity's or Tara's? If they were Tara's, why was she taking them here, and why would they be arguing about it? If they were Chasity's, why did she think she was pregnant again when Kaleb was only just barely three months old? Was that even possible?
Jon felt like his world was spinning out of control as his suddenly jelly-like legs gave out causing him to slowly slide down the wall. This was all entirely too much to process in such a short period of time.
Author's Note: Oh look, a bit of a twist and a cliffhanger. Muhahahaha.
I know, I'm evil. I'm sorry.
