Chapter Forty Four

Chasity's phone began ringing. The alarm she had set to tell her when five minutes was up, which signaled the test results were ready. Quickly turning the alarm off, she took a step toward the sink counter before stopping and turning around to face Tara. She had entirely too much time to think while the tests were registering the results. "I…I can't do this," she stuttered. Tara nodded her head.

"Yes, you can. This isn't like the last time. If you are pregnant, at least this time you'll have complete, one-hundred-percent support. Not only from me, but from Jon, too." Chasity shook her head.

"You don't know that. He's not here. Knowing him, he's probably gonna be pissed and think I got pregnant again so soon on pur…" before she could even finish her sentence the door flew open, cracking against the wall behind it. Gasping, both girls jumped; Tara had her hand over her chest where her heart was located, and Chasity's eyes were as wide as saucers as they met the icy blue of Jon's. And if the color of his eyes wasn't enough to tell her the story, his facial expression was good enough to tell her he was not one bit happy.

As he listened to Tara try to convince Chasity to read the tests and her reasons behind her hesitation, Jon quickly forgot about how sick he felt at initially seeing the tests lying on the sink counter and as the nausea quickly turned into bubbling anger Jon regained feeling in his legs and jumped back up to his feet. Without a second thought threw the bathroom door wide open causing it to make a sickening thud against the wall that was behind it. He could tell he clearly scared the hell out of both women because neither had known he was in the apartment until now, but at the moment, that was the least of his worries. "So that's what you truly think of me, huh," Jon asked, his anger getting the best of him. "You actually think I'd blame you for something I know takes two people?" Jon could feel his blood pressure rising, and he knew that meant his face was probably beat red, and it wasn't a good thing, but right now he didn't really care.

Chasity shook her head, but she had no words. She had no idea what to say. She couldn't defend her words; there was no way to. "If that's truly what you think, then you do not know me as well as either of us thought you did," Jon's anger quickly turned to hurt at her lack of an answer. Chasity dropped her head as she tried to stop the tears she could feel building behind her eyes.

"I have no idea what to say," she admitted, her voice shaking.

"Of course you don't because I caught you doubting me," Jon shouted, the hurt and anger blending together. Before he had been trying to control his emotions as best he could, but at this point, he was done. "But everybody doubts me; there's not a day in my life that someone wasn't doubting me. Telling me I couldn't do this or that, so why shouldn't my girlfriend be in that boat, too, right?" All Chasity could do was shake her head as the tears started streaming down her face. She had tried so hard to keep them at bay, but between the possible pregnancy; which she still wasn't sure about because she hadn't gotten to look at the tests, and now Jon letting his emotions overthrow him, she couldn't do it anymore.

Before anything else could be said, or done, between Jon and Chasity, Kaleb began crying in the living room. Chasity went to step past Jon to go get their son, but he placed his arm out; his hand resting on her chest. "No, you are in no condition to handle him. You stay here and find out what those tests say, I will handle him. When I come back I want to know what the results of those tests are. After that we'll talk further about all of this," Jon said, the venom he had in his voice tone previously was suddenly turned to an eerily calm voice.

When he heard his son start crying Jon's emotions were put back in place. He quickly realized that if both of them were upset and angry at each other there was nobody there to care for Kaleb. Except maybe Tara, but she wouldn't always be there when they had a disagreement. Not to mention, Kaleb is not her son; therefore, he's not her responsibility. Jon removed his hand from Chasity's chest and walked out of the bathroom, leaving the women alone again.

"I told you if he heard you, he would be pissed," Tara chided.

"Shut up, Tara," Chasity snapped. "I really don't need your 'I told you so' speech right now," she spit as she wiped even more tears off her chin before they could hit the floor. Picking up the first pregnancy test she heaved a sigh before she looked at the littler result window on the plastic device.

"I'm sorry, you're right," Tara apologized, stepping toward Chasity, who put the test back down on the counter, out of Tara's sight range. "What does the test say," she asked. Chasity shook her head, refusing to disclose the results to her best friend.

"I want Jon to be the first to know," she told Tara. "Can you do me a favor," she asked, looking at her best friend. Tara nodded.

"Anything," she responded.

"Go take Kaleb from Jon and send him into the bedroom, please," she requested. Tara nodded.

"Of course. But can I make one request of my own," Tara asked. Chasity nodded. "After you tell him that you're pregnant can you please officially tell me the results," Tara smirked. Chasity couldn't help the smirk that slipped across her face.

"Go get my boyfriend, please," Chasity asked without supplying an actual answer to her question, but Tara didn't need an answer because she knew she already knew the results. If they were negative, Chasity wouldn't care who knew first, so they had to be positive. Tara just sent a quick nod in Chasity's direction before heading toward the living room to take over Kaleb-duty and send Jon into the bedroom.

Once Kaleb was safely in Tara's care, Jon headed to the bedroom to talk to Chasity. Quietly entering the room, he saw Chasity sitting on the bed with three of the five pregnancy tests laying in front of her. "So, what's the verdict," he asked. Chasity looked up at the sound of his voice.

"All five said…" she trailed off and glanced back down at the tests lying in front of her. "Actually, come look at them yourself. After all, seeing is believing, right," she said, holding one of the tests out toward Jon.

A/N: Sorry this update took so long. I ran into writers block and on top of that, I'm currently training a new puppy & life in general just got in the way. But hopefully I'll be able to update this again before the end of July because who wants to be left in suspense THAT long, right? Haha. :P But I won't make any promises I'm not positive I can keep, so I'll just promise to TRY to update it before the beginning of August.
