Chapter 19: Towards the end of summer

Lory had feared for this to happen. Right now, Shion is sitting across him, an emotionless look on his passive face.

"What did you just say?" The older gentleman narrowed his eyes as he exhaled the cigar between his fingers.

"I'm going to where Azuma is after this week is over. Please tell me where he is now." Shion repeated without hesitation.

Lory eyed him with suspicion, "I'm afraid you have not fulfilled our promise."

Shion smiled, "No, it's done and over. It's just a matter of time for Kyoko-chan to accept Tsuruga-san's love."

"How can you be so sure?" The dark haired man distinguished the lighted cigar against the ashtray.

"Call it a guardian's intuition. In the end, it still comes to Tsuruga-san's pride as a man in love to get her. It's not my place to help him achieve that goal." The ochre haired boy clenched his fists against his lap.

"Shion, it seems to me that you're just making up excuses." Lory sighed, "Why are you fretting?"

Shion flashed a troubled frown at the question, "Time's almost up, Lory-sama."

"What?"

Shion untied the bandage around his injured hand, revealing a perfectly healed flesh without a scar. "Azuma told you, didn't he? Androids he created are not perfect, especially me. I was made out of incomplete data."

"…So I heard. What about it?" Lory raised an eyebrow.

"My wounds healed too fast for the system, which I suspect to be the start of a corruption in my database. Soon, my program will be overwritten by the virus system within me. I want to go to Azuma because he's the only one who can perform maintenance for me." Shion answered honestly, "I don't want to hurt you or Kyoko-chan, so I'm leaving."

"..."

Shion bowed his head, "Please, Lory-sama, tell me Azuma's whereabouts."

The sixth day of the vacation arrived just like that. Kyoko had never met Shion face-to-face since that night. For Ren, they do meet up for breakfast, lunch and dinner as per normal, but there was barely any conversation between them.

No matter how much she struggled against that box, it still opened in the end. She was powerless against it, even with her grudges. There were still some left due to her lingering hatred towards Shotaro, but majority of them still disappeared as soon as the inevitable happened.

Ever since that night in Ren's apartment, Kyoko had a bad premonition about what would happen to her. That's why she desperately tried to suppress the box, but still…

"Kyoko?"

The orange haired girl looks up at whoever called her, only to freeze at the sight of the handsome god's favorite staring at her worriedly just an arm's length away.

Kyoko blushed subtly, "Uhm… yes?"

Ren couldn't possibly sit back and let her go. He'd rather drop dead to Hell than do nothing. Even so, this awkwardness is still taking a toll on him.

At least she's still responding to me… "What are you thinking deeply about?" He questioned, taking steps out of the 'senpai-zone'.

"Eh? I was just… thinking about my own feelings." She answered under her breath, looking down at her lap.

Ren merely stared with wide eyes.

"Shion-kun showed me that not all men are like you, willing to wait for me even if you might be rejected." She continued, "I knew it was inevitable that I would feel this way."

At that statement, Ren swallowed dryly, feeling like an eager teenager waiting for the answer for his confession. Confessing to Kyoko is like a life-or-death gamble.

"…I…" Kyoko glared at him, "I hate you."

At that instant, his world shattered to million pieces. He knew this would happen. He knew that it was too early for him to profess his love for her. He knew that he would never be able to stand up again if this happened. He knew all this, and yet…

His lips curved down slightly. His heart died. He was rejected mercilessly.

Seeing the despair carved on his face, Kyoko immediately caught his attention with some incoherent words. Ren looks at her, confused and hurt.

"I hate you for always teasing me. I hate you for treating me so kindly despite my uselessness. I hate you for being my senpai. I hate you for being able to open that stupid box. I hate you for making me feel this way."

Halfway down the list, Ren was getting utterly puzzled. When he thought she was trying to drop him down deeper to Hell, she made some odd statements too.

"What box?" He whispered under his breath.

And then she grabbed the front of his shirt, surprising him. She glared at him right in the eyes, "I hate you for making me fall in love again!"

With that she leaned in and planted a chaste kiss on his lips.

To say that Ren was shocked was an understatement. There was a mixed feeling stirring in him. Overwhelming happiness dominated above the others though.

After she withdrew, her blush returned ten times, "I-I don't want to become that stupid girl I once was, that's why I avoided loving. Why do you have to make me walk on that path once more?"

Ren flashed his heavenly smile as he leaned his forehead against hers, "It's fine. Just remain the way you are now. I want to cherish you, not abuse you like how that cockroach did."

She raised an eyebrow, "I don't trust men."

"You trust Shion-kun."

"He's like my brother."

"He's still a man." Ren argued.

"Why are you so competitive against him?" Kyoko pouted, feeling like a proper girl once again now that she accepted this accursed feeling of hers.

"That's because he's the one who's the closest to you as a male." Ren frowned unhappily.

"Really? I thought you just claimed the special place in my heart." Kyoko smiled, "Or do you want to be my brother instead?"

The actor's face paled at the very idea, "No way."

"KYAA!"

The couple jolted in surprise at the sudden squeal. All of a sudden they were aware of their surroundings.

Kyoko flushed red from head to toes, hiding her face in her hands as she whined, "I forgot we're still at the beach…!"

Ren laughed, "That saves us the trouble to go around telling them the good news then."

It appears that the girlish scream belonged to Yashiro, who was videotaping the whole moment with the camera he brought along just for the couple. Kanae, who was standing beside him growled at the high pitched tone of the supposedly stoic manager.

Kanae huffed, "Mo! Took you two too long enough!"

Yashiro pumped his fist into the air with a loud shout, "HELL YES!"

At least I gave you readers the desired happy ending for Ren and Kyoko.

Kyoko was OOC for this chapter though, a little seme-ish, lol.

I hereby bid you farewell, readers. Thank you so much for supporting me all this while! *bows*
