Chapter 12: the truth comes to light
Danny and Yugi traveled through the void looking for the two spirits of vengeance that became a part of them. It was the first time that the two ever really got to explore the void. Ususally when they were here they could see small bits of what was happening within the really world while Atem and Phantom controlled their bodies. Most of the time they fell asleep allowing the two spirits free rain over their bodies. The void had aspects of both Atem's and Phantom's previous life but also Yugi's and Danny's modern life. Pain still rippled through Danny's and Yugi's body. Suddenly without warning Yugi collapsed to the ground.
"Yugi!" Danny shouted out rushing to his friends aid. Yugi was panting again as his large amethyst eyes became blood red.
"Danny... I am so thirsty. It hurts... This pain doesn't seem to want to go away. Please... Help me." Yugi panted as he began to rive in pain. The shadow that came to them earlier was back once again as it took on the form of a man.
"Please... He's my friend. How can I help him?" Danny asked the shadow. The shadow pointed to Danny's arm. Words seemed to echo in the back of Danny's mind.
*Feed... Blood...*Danny recalled what Atem had told them when viewing his past of how he was a vampiric demon. Danny managed to find a sharp object laying around as he slit open his wrist. The second Yugi smelled blood the teen leapt sinking his newfound fangs into Danny's wrist. Danny yelled out in pain as it felt like his back was on fire. Suddenly a pair of white angelic feathered wings ripped out of Danny's back. Yugi too underwent a transformation where a pair of demonic leather wings ripped out of his back. The shadow seemed to stay with them until Danny could see two figures approach them.
"Danny?" questioned the black wing angel that looked like him. Danny recognized the two almost instantly since seeing memories of their past lives.
"Phantom... Atem..." Danny stated as he began to feel weak. Yugi was draining him.
"Abiou (partner)... That's enough. You must stop." Atem commanded. Yugi looked up at Atem as he withdrew from Danny's arm. Phantom pulled Danny away this way he could heal his host. Both spirits knew that looking at their human hosts that their other halves been finally restored. But because of the two spirits of vengeance awakening their long lost true forms, it had not only altered both Danny and Yugi but also gave the two teens a small portion of the powers they had possessed back when they were alive. Both Atem and Phantom could no longer keep the truth from their human.
"Yugi listen to me. You must focus and transform back. The longer that you stay in this form the more its going to put a strain on your spirit."
"What Atem says is true. Please Danny try to transform back to normal. We will explain everything."added Phantom. Both Yugi and Danny nodded their heads that they understood as the forced their bodies to transform back to normal. At first nothing happened then the wings they had gotten flattened agents there backs becoming tattoo's, Yugi's eyes regained there original coloring, and the pain they felt Finlay left them.
"What... the... hell?" Danny asked breathless trying to stand back up only to fall back into Phantom whom chuckled lightly. Yugi on the other hand stayed sitting on the ground trying to regain his breath and wrap his head around the fact the he drank Danny's blood.
'Karma must hate me.' Yugi thought to himself finding it easier to breath now. "Okay please tell us what just happened. Who was that shadow anyway?" Yugi asked as he noticed that the shadow had vanished without a trace.
"Unfortunately we don't know. It just happens to appear from time to time in order to help us out." replied Atem.
"All we do know is that shadow is some how tied into the spirits of vengeance." added Phantom.
"What in the world happened to us?" Danny asked.
"Both you and Yugi are our the other halves to our souls. The lights to our darkness. Our bodies which we once lost finally reborn. When we regained our true forms, it also transformed the both of you into almost half of what we used to be."
"Because of this transformation, you will find out that even within your human forms you have gained some of our past powers. But it is no where as powerful as ours or what we are fully capable of. We will help you learn to control and use these powers along with the transformation that you have gone through."
"The millennium puzzle that you wear around your neck Yugi will help keep your more demonic attributes in check. I am truly sorry for forcing this upon you my Hikari (light)."
"It's alright Atem. I don't blame you for what happened. For a while know I have gotten used to your presence within me as it felt somehow as if the missing part of me had been found."
"What Yugi says is true as I have felt it to. Who knows maybe these things that we are going through have a purpose." added Danny. This caused both Atem and Phantom to look at the two in shock. The four of them could feel Mahad's and Marik's magic pulling Danny and Yugi back to the real world.
"When you guys come to have our caretakers explain everything. The prophecy, the millennium and mystic items, the spirits of vengeance, the Midnight Sons, and the medallion of power."
"Remember that we are always here if you need us." Atem stated as both Danny and Yugi vanished from the void. for a moment the world around Yugi and Danny was black then thing started to fill in around them becoming the crypt that Mahad worked in.
"Owww." Danny moned it felt like he had been run over by a bus and then it back up into him.
"Are you alright?" Asked a voice just to his right. Danny looked over to see Strange next to him.
"You don't want to know the answer to that" Danny stated just as Yugi woke up felling the same way as Danny.
"Remined me again why do I feel like a lead weight?" Yugi asked sitting up. everyone laugh at that just as Clockwork and Mahad entered relived that the two of them were alright
"I take it you both have a lot of question?" Mahad asked
"You got that right." Danny said wincing and rubbing a spot on his neck only to find a set of puncher wounds there.
*Atem you and I are going to have a talk later.* Danny thought earning a sheepish laugh from Atem and a full blown laugh from Phantom. Danny cut his link and stood up fallowing Clockwork to gain some expiation about the prophecy, items, and there ailes that they need to find.
*Atem what did you do?* Yugi asked having heard what Danny said and only getting laughter as an answer, Yugi sighed and fallowed Mahad.
"Yugi have you heard the prophecy that surrounds you?" Mahad asked Yugi shook his head no
"The prophecy goes like this: Light and Dark, two halves of the same coin shall come together. Both friends and allies shall gather all unite under two powerful spirits. These people will all bear a sacred mark to help destroy the ultimate evil that threatens the world. Several items will have to be collected and brought together in order for the darkness to be beaten. You will need everyone's help in order to succeed friendship is a power that all will have, making the will stronger than any power combined. The midnight sons shall rise again." Yugi blinked a few times If that was self explanatory then he didn't know what was.
"Mahad how many items did Atem own?"
"there are seven millennium items that Atem had owned in the past. Two of them are already found that leaves five still to find and quickly i might add." Mahad said just as the two of the entered a dinning room of sorts. I another room Clockwork had just fished retelling Danny the Prophecy and then asked "Daniel tell me do you remember Phantom having a weapon when he went to face Dark?" Danny thought for a moment then answered "No he didn't have a weapon on him why?"
"In truth he did have one he just didn't have time to call upon it."
"Hun?..."
"Daniel," Clockwork said handing him a Diamond necklace and when put against the light you can see the carving of a scyth and when in the dark it would glow green.
"What is this?" Danny asked taking the Necklace and put it on.
"That is one of three Items that Phantom once used and owned. Before his fight with Dark he sent two of them to a different time so Dark couldn't use them for his own purposes." Clockwork said with Danny blinking several times before realizing what needed to be done.
"Oh to Joy not only do I have to find Phantom's -wait scratch that- our allies but also two of Phantoms items as well." Danny stated sarcastically then asking as the two of them walked into the dinning room where Yugi, Mahad, and Marik where.
"Who are the midnight son's anyway?" the two teens asked.
"The Midnight Son's have always been a group of people with a strong scene of justice and each holding an item that belonged to either Atem and/or Phantom." replied Marik. Danny eye's widened considerably because of what he saw standing just behind Marik, the shadow from the void. He looked a lot like Marik only with his hair spiked much like Yugi's. He wore black leather pants with gold band around his thighs, on his wast was a feathered belt like thing that hung on his waist, black boots, a black leather open black half shirt with a red cross (see deviantart). The "shadow" smiled placing a finger to his lips and cocking his to the side.
'What in the world...!' Danny thought to himself as he watched as the shadow whispered something to Marik.
"But there is more to them than that."
"This is true. The Midnight Sons go back even farther than both Atem and Phantom combined." stated Clockwork.
"It all begins with the medallion of power, an item containing immense magical power. The medallion of power has been around, as far as anyone can tell. Many wars have been fought over it. Both blood and death surround it. The power contained within it is too much for any one individual to wield and remain the same. That was learned the hard way as many have tried to stop him. But, Zarathos... he sought the medallion to further his own evil cause. The original spirits of vengeance along with others who became known as the Midnight Sons helped to stop him. These beings of power sought to protect humanity against the dark times that Zarathos would have brought upon this dimension. They alone had power enough to go head to head with Zarathos. And in doing so... they sacrificed themselves. The essence of the spirits of vengeance, what remained of the Midnight Sons, and Zarathos were melded within the medallion of power. There was only one solution... the medallion was split in half and the powers within were placed within the descendants of two different families." Mahad stated.
"Those families where both your ancestors Daniel and Yugi. It is no mere coincidence that you two not only bear a strong resemblance to both Atem and Phantom. A portion of the medallion of power lie with you two as you both are the physical bodies of Atem and Phantom reborn." Clockwork added.
"Their other halves, their lights. But who is Zarathos?" Yugi stated.
"We don't know. But we feel that his presence will come back along with others who crave the power contained within the medallion of power. The Midnight Sons will all bear the same mark that you have." Mahad stated pointing to Yugi's and Danny's right hand. They could see the same symbol on Marik's upper left arm.
"It should be in the same place as mine. These new Midnight Sons may also possess an item either belonging to either Phantom and/or Atem. They may not be aware of it but they also have an ancient tie in to the previous Midnight Sons." Marik stated.
'Is that what I am seeing?' Danny thought to himself.
"Because of both Atem and Phantom awakening their true forms, it caused you both to become permanently bonded to the two. It also transformed your bodies and awakened powers that you both didn't have. Both Atem and Phantom along with Mahad and I will help you in understanding the powers that you are capable of." Clockwork stated. In the back of Danny's mind he could feel Phantom reaching out to him.
*Danny...* Phantom called out.
*Phantom... Is what I am seeing the spirit of one of the Midnight Sons that is a part of Marik?* Danny asked the ghost angel.
*Yes. You will possibly see the same thing within others when you meet them.* replied Phantom causing Danny to sigh softly.
"Does Atem and/or Phantom know how to get a hold of us if and when they will need me?" asked Marik. That's when Yugi could feel Atem's presence in the back of his mind.
*Atem?*
*Yugi... you are the only one who can make a connection with Marik since he has the millennium rod. Anyone who has one of my items. Phantom will be able to contact anyone with his items.*Atem stated.
"Yeah they do." Yugi replied. Marik nodded his head as he bided farewell to both Danny and Yugi.
"It was nice meeting you both. I look forward to working with you both in the future." Marik stated. Danny and Yugi nodded their head as they watched Marik leave.

Midnight Son Spirit:Zarathos is an ancient entity who wants world domination.
Dragonstar101: why is it always world domination?
Midnight Son Spirit: It's always like that when it comes to these evil villains who believe that their view of the world and how it should be is.
Scrletfyre: True they never do learn do they that in order to make any progress you have to move forward not backwards.
Dragonstar101: And when they try to accomplish their goals, the heroes are always there to put a stop to them.
