Chapter 23: When the moon grows full
A few days has passed since Ruka revealed the truth to Kyoko. Days still went by as usual for all of them, except Lory sent Sebastian to look for Shion while he searched for Azuma.
Ren was still worried that his lady love would crumble under the pressure of everything. Though they became a couple he'd always wished for, he can't help but feel that there's still something between them—like a wall, or a gap.
Maybe it's because he still hid things from her such as him being the fairy prince she always talked about, him being a Hizuri, about Rick… but those were things he'd eventually tell her. Just not now.
"Ren." The actor snapped out of his thoughts and flashed a temporarily smile to his manager. Yashiro only returned the 'stop-that-look' face, "I know you're worried, but you need to give her space to mull over things."
Ren feigned surprise, "Eh. What are you talking about?"
Yashiro gave a disapproving glare, "What do you mean "what am I talking about"? I mean Kyoko-chan."
The actor remained silent. Of course he understood that being her boyfriend didn't give him any rights to interfere with her business, but what can he do? After that fox-girl talked to Kyoko, the actress looked so confused and lost.
"Ren, you need to focus on your work now." Yashiro continued with a sigh, "I'm sure President will inform us when he finds Shion-kun."
"I know." Ren uttered in irritation before he stood up, making his way to the set.
There was only the sound of droplets hitting the tiled floor, and the loud, laboured breathing. A man sat on a pipe chair in the middle of the dark warehouse, his hands tied to the back and his legs tied to the pipe legs.
He started resisting against the bindings, trying to bite through the cloth gagging his mouth while his frantic eyes fixed themselves at the closed door.
It was damn obvious Lady Luck hasn't been on his side, since the door opened at that moment, revealing four figures entering the warehouse.
One of them flipped on the lights, letting the man see the kidnappers clearly.
His eyes widened in recognition to the man standing before him.
"Why, is it so surprising to see me?" The kidnapper asked gleefully, his chocolate brown eyes staring predatory into the man's frightened ones. He then reached out to remove the gag.
"Hinamori—"
"Shh." Azuma puts a finger to his lips, "Let me talk first."
The man immediately shut up.
"You see, I plan to make a world perfect for my children to live in." Azuma continued, smiling innocently, "But it's unfortunate that nobody supports me for that."
"Of course not! What you're trying to do is make the world full of killing machines!" The man retorted angrily.
Azuma glared down at the man, "They are not killing machines. I will need you to help me welcome them."
"Father." The scientist turned around as a boy with cat ears approached him, "We did a rough calculation. The only siblings left are Ruka and Shion."
Azuma was surprised for a second there before tears started flowing from his eyes, "I see, I see! They survived…!"
"Stop, Hinamori. You can still turn back."
The scientist glances to the man, "Turn back? Why should I turn back? I just want my children to live a world suitable for them."
"You're insane!" The man yelled.
Azuma looked blankly at him, "True. I am insane. But who made me this way? Oh, of course, it's all of you."
"What are you—"
"Why are you asking me that? I am merely driven to the edge, because you people made my precious child eliminate his siblings, and stain his hands in your filthy blood."
Realization hit him, "D-Don't tell me, everything you planned is for—"
"Kuroto." Azuma called, and the cat-boy pushed the gag into the man's mouth.
"Father. Leo and Inui came back from surveillance. It seems that Shion is coming to Spain." Kuroto reported, barely containing his joy and excitement.
Azuma sighed, "I see. He must be getting impatient because of his corrupted data."
He then smiled at the boy, "Where is he?"
Ruka walked into the dilapidated cabin in the forest by the countryside of Spain. That was the place they hid in when Azuma saved them from being scrapped by the government. The full moon's silver light shone from the sky, illuminating the dark cabin from the windows and the open door.
"Shion?" She called out, looking around when she saw the wolf boy sitting on the dusty and damp bed, leaning against the wall.
A weak smile spread across the boy's face, "Hey Ruka, long time no see."
"Yes." She walked up to him and pulls out a USB cord from the side of her neck. She then climbed up onto the bed, inputting the cord into the socket above the place where his cord is tucked in.
Shion noticed what she was trying to do, so he pushed her slightly, "Stop. I don't want to hurt you."
"But I want to help you." She retorted, "Please don't push me away."
The ochre-haired boy sighed as he raised his hand to caress her cheek, "Sorry."
She didn't know to describe what she's feeling now… maybe it's what humans label as 'happiness'. Being useful for her special one after so admiring him for so long just makes her feel 'happy'.
She closed her eyes and started analyzing the security errors, and found that not only were there security errors, there are also corrupted data in the different components, including personality, animalistic qualities, humanity program.
Ruka knew it'd be impossible for her to fix those particular areas, but the least she could do is to fix the security errors so that he can stop himself from blacklisting the wrong people.
Though it's frustrating, but Ruka knew it'd be inevitable for Shion and Azuma to reunite again sooner or later.
I hope you enjoyed this chapter.
R&R and tell me if there's anything that changed... like my writing style... or any of the character's behavior... blah blah.
