Chapter 25: The Forgotten

In his deep slumber, he felt something important slip away from his consciousness. Something… very important… but he can't seem to remember.

His repaired systems whirred to life, and he opened his eyes. Everything seemed new. The white ceiling, the bright lights, the hard bed.

He glanced around, and saw his maker sitting in front of the virtual computer, typing away. His maker noticed him waking up, and he smiled. "You're finally awake?"

"…How long… have I been asleep?" Shion asked. There was something missing.

"Around 2 days?" Azuma smiled as he stood from his seat and approached him. "How are you feeling?"

"I feel that… something is missing." The ochre haired boy looks down at his palms, "Something… very, very, important…"

He didn't notice the cold stare of his maker as he continued his attempts to remember.

"I can't remember."

"Let me give you an overall scan again. We wouldn't want any viruses to lurk around." Azuma pet on his head as he returned to his seat.

Shion only nodded obediently and laid on the bed once again. As he stared at the ceiling, Shion was also revising his own personality.

The machine started scanning his body, and he realized that Azuma had made revision to his personality, but he didn't know what he revised.

It must be an essential revision if Azuma changed it.

"Alright. There's nothing wrong with you." Azuma smiled again as he turned around in his chair. "Shion, you can go upstairs and find Ruka. She's waiting for you."

The wolf boy nodded with a slight smile, "Okay."

Ruka kept thinking. Was it really a good idea to help that thing with his idea? From their points of view, what they did might have helped him, but what about Shion?

How would he feel?

She sighed, uncharacteristically.

"What is that sigh?" She stiffened when Shion's face appeared before hers all of a sudden.

"S-Shion, you're awake?" She touched his forehead, "Are you okay?"

"Mmm, yup. I just feel a little groggy. It must be a system lag." He replied as he sat beside her.

"Oh."

He looks around the relatively empty house, "Azuma has been living in such a pitiful place?"

"Well, he's somewhat a wanted person."

"Ruka, I keep having this feeling that I forgot something important." He admitted with a confused frown.

She glances at him, "If you can forget about it, it must be something that's not as important as you think."

"…You think so?"

There was a brief awkward silence before a loud helicopter sound rang in their ears. The leaves of the trees outside swayed violently and the old, tattered windows rattled. The two of them stared in wonder as a bright, neon pink helicopter descended from the sky.

"Wow. That is one disgusting shade of pink." Shion commented blankly.

Ruka was glaring at the helicopter that has landed and the chopper slowing down. Why did those humans come after us? Are they one of those selfish creatures who want to monopolize Shion?

She stood up, "Shion, go get that thing in the basement. It's his guests."

"Hm? Oh, okay." The wolf boy retreated back into the basement without much thoughts.

Lory alight his proud helicopter and strikes a pose. "We are here!"

Ren thanked the heavens that the house is deep into the forest, and not in an urban city. He would've been embarrassed to death if he was seen with this peacock man.

Kyoko only had her eyes on the dirty and old wooden house before them. Her long lost father is inside, Shion is inside, and all the answers she want will be inside there.

She swallowed the lump in her throat.

Before Lory could knock, the door squeaked open. Ruka stood there, a death glare positioned on her pretty face.

"Why did you come?" She demanded fiercely.

"We have come to visit, of course." Lory replied nonchalantly with another pose.

"Lies." She stepped out. "You're here to take Shion back."

A brief seriousness drifted across the older man's face, "Not only that. That idiot too, I have come to take him to where he belongs."

"And where is that? Jail?" She scorned, "Or Hell after his death sentence?"

The three of them were slightly astonished by the obvious hate displayed in both her words and facial expression.

"Shion doesn't need to suffer as long as Azuma is around. Being with you guys will only hurt him." Ruka's eyes glowed when she got angrier, "Just like any other humans! You are all selfish creatures that only want us as tools for your own gains!"

"Ruka." Azuma's voice stopped her from raging further. She looked back and saw his pained expression. She knew he understood her. Behind him was Shion, who looked somber as well.

Kyoko beamed when she saw Shion, "Shion-kun!"

The wolf boy scowled. "Who are you?"

"Eh?" Her eyes widened at his question. "W-What are you saying? I'm Kyoko—"

"I don't know any humans by that name." He interrupted with an annoyed tone.

Ren felt his blood boiling over. Why did he have to hurt her more than he already did? If he is playing around—

Before he knew it, Ren had already raised his fist and swung it down towards the boy. The knuckles collided against the cheekbone with a loud bam.

"Ren/Ren-san!" Kyoko and Lory called out in surprise at his violent action.

The wolf boy only stood there, unmoving. His fingers twitched and his blue eyes glowed in swirling anger as he glared at the human. "What… are you trying to do…? Are you trying to make me angry?"

"Oh? I think you've already angered me enough." Ren retorted with a smug-mixed-scornful grin. "How dare you hurt Kyoko the second time?"

Shion growled and kicked him in the stomach and sent him flying back onto the ground, "I don't know what you're talking about!"

"Shion!" Azuma sounded displeased. Shion looks back at him and folded his arms.

Kyoko was helping Ren up when she heard an apology from her supposed father. She looks at him. He was smiling at her with fond eyes.

"Kyoko… right?" He then scratched his cheek in embarrassment, "I… didn't think you'd grow up to be so beautiful..."

"…I… I really want to call you "Father", but I need to know the truth before I decide to do that." Kyoko said while averting eye contact with the scientist.

Azuma smiled bitterly, "I understand… I will hear your questions."
