Chapter 22: hunted
As the group headed back to the cabin, the mysterious figure who was after Duke followed them. He was determined to get Duke back by whatever means necessary. He wasn't finished with Duke yet. At that same moment the mysterious figure who was after Duke was also being hunted by a man simply known as Shriker. He was an ally to both Atem and Phantom as he was also a Midnight Son. The only thing is he didn't know it. Shriker has been following Skulker since his adamantium lab was destroyed by Duke. He even befriended Duke keeping a close eye on him. He feared what Skulker would do if he gotten his hands on Duke.
After a while Yugi began to feel better as the group pulled into the cabin's lot. The three adults were waiting for them outside. The adults ran to the teens as they hugged them. Tears were in their eyes.
"Guys we are fine." both Yugi and Danny stated.
"But we saw the news about the fire. They said four unidentified people managed to help citizens out of the blaze." stated Solomon.
"Four?" questioned Danny, Yugi, and Duke in unison. They weren't aware that there was another person there. The adults let go of their hold on the younger teens as both Jack and Maddie Fenton looked at Duke in complete shock as he looked exactly the same even despite the passage of time.
"Mr. and Mrs. Fenton... it's nice to see you guys again. I didn't get a chance to thank you for helping me out in the past." stated Duke.
"Oh it's not a problem..." replied Maddie.
"Duke Devlin." answered Duke.
"How is it that you still look the same? It doesn't even look like you have aged a day." asked Jack.
"I will explain when we are inside." answered Duke. The two older Fenton's seemed to understand his need for secrecy. The group headed inside where Duke explained what he knew keeping some of his ancient past a secret. The only ones who knew were both Danny and Yugi. "According to Professor Charles Xavier I am what is known as a mutant. I was born with the ability to heal extremely fast as a result, I age rather slowly." stated Duke.
"That explains what we saw when we found you." Jack stated.
"Why did you leave before morning?" Jazz asked.
"A part of me needed to get away from here. Mainly to keep you safe but, I didn't remember as to the reason why. All I knew was that someone or thing was after me. Now I'm back hoping to regain my memory." Duke replied. Maddie looked thoughtful before nodding her head.
"That would explain some of your injuries." she stated.
"What do you mean?" Duke asked.
"When we found you, you were running on instinct trying to find somewhere safe in order to heal." Maddie stated and with that Duke was bombarded with memories as the millennium necklace began to glow.
=Begin Flashback=
Duke remembered being experimented on as they feed the adimantium into his body. Somehow right after the feed was complete Duke went ballistic as he attacked some of the lab worker and went after a man who appeared to be dressed in armor and had a green Mohawk. Armed guards rushed into the lab to try to capture Duke.
"I want him alive. Do not harm the specimen as I am not done with my work yet!" shouted out the armored man.
"Yes sir Skulker." replied the guards. Three metal claws came shooting out of Duke's knuckles as he viciously attacked the guards. Suddenly a loud explosion ripped through the building as a man dressed in a ninja suit entered the building. It wouldn't be the first and/or the last time that Duke would see this man.
"Skulker!" the ninja shouted out.
"Ah if it isn't my favorite nemesis Shriker. You're too late as I already completed stage one of my experiment. As soon as I get my test subject I shall begin stage two." stated Skulker. Duke didn't like the sounds of that. In his enraged state he went over to the computers destroying them. "No... My work!" cried out Skulker. Duke kept ripping away at the computers causing another explosion that threw him away from the lab causing it to burn down to the ground. The only thing on Duke's mind was to get away... to get to safety... and to heal. That is when he heard the voices of Jack and Maddie Fenton.
"Oh my dear lord. Jack come here quick!" Maddie shouted out as the claws on Duke's hands retracted. He looked a bloody mess. "Its all right there son. We aren't going to hurt you." she stated calmly. Something about the woman made him feel safe. Jack came up as he helped support Duke's weight.
"Maddie is there any one else?" asked Jack.
"I don't think so. His wounds look awful. Lets get him to the cabin this way we can patch up his wounds." replied Maddie. Out of the corner of Duke's eye he could see Shriker watching as the two adult Fenton's helped him before he took off into the night.
=End Flashback=
Duke let out a low muted moan as his eyes rolled back into his head as he began to fall over. Both Danny and Yugi instantly caught their friend before he lost consciousness.
"Danny why don't you take Duke to yours and Yugi's room. He can rest there for a while." stated Maddie. Both teens nodded their heads as they helped Duke to their room.
*Abiou (partner)... I can sense that the magic in the millennium necklace is out of whack. I need to take control in order to fix the problem. It should help Dameri regain control over the item and be able for him to recall his past a bit better.* stated Atem. Thank heavens that their room was in the far back of the cabin this way no one can see what they were doing.
*Make it quick Atem.* Yugi replied as he gave the spirit control over his body. There was a very slight physical change as Atem remained in Yugi's form. Atem called upon the shadow magic that flowed within him as he lightly touched Duke's millennium necklace. Both the millennium items began to glow as the ancient pharaoh began chanting in Egyptian. Danny played look out just in case someone came to the back rooms. The magic dissipated quickly as Atem switched back control to Yugi.
*It is done. But as I was fixing the millennium necklace, I could feel and sense another millennium object close by.* Atem stated.
*Which one?* asked Phantom.
*The millennium eye. It seems Duke has met the wielder of this object.* replied Atem. Duke slowly regained consciousness.
"Are you feeling alright Duke or shall we call you by your true name... Dameri?" asked Yugi.
"Duke is fine. I haven't been called Dameri for a very long time." replied Duke.
"That's understandable considering you have been alive for over five thousand years." stated Danny.
"Gods has it really been that long?" asked Duke as both Danny and Yugi nodded their heads. The three began talking explaining about the midnight sons, the spirits of vengeance, the prophecy, the magical items, and everything else that Duke needed to know.
"According to Atem you have meet the man who owns the millennium eye." stated Yugi.
"Shriker. I have come across him several times as he has helped me out of a few jams. Your telling me that he is one of us?"
"Seems that way. So where do you go from here?" asked Danny.
"Well Professor Xavier told me to check out the compound that I used to be held up in and experimented on. It could give me some answers into my past. I can somewhat remember certain events that happened to me. I guess he knew that you guys would have some answers." stated Duke.
"Not all the answers Duke. We only know a bit about what happened to you in the past from when Atem and Phantom used to be back in Egypt. But we will be more than happy to help you find the answers." stated Yugi. Duke just nodded his head thanking the two teens for everything.
Meanwhile... Skulker entered into the underground lab that Duke had destroyed during his escape. Brand new equipment had been set up as Skulker didn't seem to be alone. Another man was with him one that was partly responsible for the resurrection of the spirit of vengeance, the man known as Deathwatch.
"I trust that everything meets your expectations Skulker." stated Deathwatch.
"Oh yes... Everything seems to be in order. I will get not only my prized specimen back but also the two spirits of vengeance." stated Skulker.
"Don't worry my associates are on their way." replied Deathwatch earning a wild grin that stretched across Skulker's face.
T.V. Announcer: And welcome back to the Riders tribute. And here are you host's Scrletfyre and Drangonstar101. *audience claps*
Scrletfyre: Welcome back everyone.
Dragonstar101: Today on the show we have Skulker talking with us about his role in this story. So please welcome him to the show. *audience claps*
Skulker *grinning*: Thanks for having me.
Scrletfyre: So Skulker why don't you tell us what your plans are for Duke and your hatred for Shriker?
Skulker: I won't revile my plans for Duke but, my hatred for Shriker is because he was the one who put me in this suit.
Dragonstar101: He put you in the suit? Okay then... I won't ask how that happened but, I will ask how dose it feel to be one of the many villains featured in this story?
Skulker *grins madly*: It's rather interesting to say the least and I've heard that you two are very rare.
Dragonstar101&Scrletfyre *pales*: N-now now Skulker we aren't some rare animals that you seemed to love to hunt *hears the soft click of a weapon being activated. Looks at each other* GO TO BRAKE! *runs off stage with Skulker on their heals* SHIT, SHIT, SHIT!
