Chapter 265
.
Monday October 22nd. 272 days until impact. Eve was also hoping just barely two months until she had this baby. She feared what would happen if this child was born after the new year began. Like other Eve was still hoping that ELE was somehow diverted. Either way, she might be spending the rest of her life in this concentration camp. But the pilot ecucation program gave her hope. This baby would have a better life on the outside. Maybe he or she would come here sometimes to visit it's mother. Then Eve heard the news. There was a bombing at an integrated school in Colorado. Seven children, and one teacher, were dead. The authorities were attributing this to a radical loyalist group. This bombing quickly took away Eve's sense of hope. Eve saw news footage of the school bombing. Seeing children killed like this never got easier. Rescue workers were bringing frightened and hurt children out. Whatever loyalist group was responsible, their goal wasn't simply the murder of children. That had merely been a means to an end. The end, was to stop the integration of schools. By the evening the president was again addressing the nation. He swore that this wouldn't stop the pilot program. Like Eisenhower 80 years ago in Arkansas, president Mason would send soldiers to protect these children for as long as it took. A part of Eve still hated George Mason. But seeing him like this, fighting for children's futures, Eve also remembered why she once admired this president.
