Chapter 278
.
Eve was suppossed to be released on December 25th. She was now fit enough to leave. The question was whether Dr Weber would allow her to take Hope with her. There were other babies, still in the maternity ward, whom they were trying to place in the sector orphanage. Some had been abandoned, some had mothers like Eve, barely survived being born. Before being released, Eve went to see Dr Weber one more time.
.
Eve: They say I can go now.
Weber: I'm aware.
Eve: Can I take Hope?
Weber: She's well enough to leave. I'm still uneasy about giving her to you, all things considered.
Eve: I deserve that, but I will never do that again. I will be a good mother
Weber: Did they give you the pills to prevent post-partem depression?
Eve: Yes. I will take them twice a day, as prescribed. One in the morning, one after 6pm.
Weber: I stil want to see you for an exam once a week. Maybe more over time. If you start to have old thoughts about hurting her, call me or another doctor immediately.
Eve: I will, I swear.
Weber: Okay then. You can take your daughter home.
.
When Eve brought Hope to their apartment the door was open. She became worried, was their an intruder inside? Perhaps Amanda's thugs, or sector guards out for revenge. She was going to call for help, then someone came out. She was a neighbor, a bit embarrassed. This neighbor just said that she'd heard Eve was coming home, wanted to give her some food and diapers. Eve went into the apartment, there was indeed baby food, diapers, and regular milk on the table. Eve was very grateful for this christms gift. She'd feared that people would've stolen her food while she was in the hospital. But here people were helping her and her baby. As Eve held her newborn child in her arms, her eyes started swelling. Apparently compassion hadn't been completely extinguished just yet. This new mother said "Welcome home Hope."
