Week 40 - August 7th

"Ed," Winry said groggily as she shook her husband awake beside her. His eyes opened quickly as he turned to her.

Now, Edward had purchased the recliner for Winry to sleep in during the night, but somehow it had found its way into the nursery as a replacement for the rocking chair that had been in there. Ed didn't mind. It was nice to sleep with his wife in their bed; spending the short amount of time together until their babies were born.

"What is it?" Edward asked as he turned to his wife.

"I'm in labor," Winry answered.

"That's nice," Ed said, turning back to return to slumber. The words she had just said finally registered to him and he was up once again. "WHAT?!"

"I'm in labor," Winry repeated. "But it's not bad; I think it'll be a couple hours before the babies are born."

"We need to get granny." Ed stood out of bed, pulling sweat pants on over his boxers and a t-shirt on before walking out of the room to get the old lady. He was quick to enter Pinako's room, shaking the woman hastily. "Granny, Winry's in labor."

"Stop shaking me; I'm an old lady for Christ sake," Pinako growled, getting out of bed and making her way to Winry. "Okay, girl, tell me, how far are the contractions?"

"About fifteen minutes apart, but they're not bad," Winry said. "I don't think they'll come for a couple hours."

"Well, you come get me when the contractions are five minutes apart. We'll do something about it then," Pinako said. "Until then, you don't eat anything. If you need something, you can have ice chips, but that's it. I'll be in the kitchen drinking coffee until you're ready." Pinako then walked out of the room.

Edward couldn't sleep now. He sat beside Winry's bed and waited for what seemed like forever until she was finally ready to push. The pain had increased and she was crying now, but at least it would be over soon.

Alphonse, of course, had come in to help when he had woken up. He really served as Ed's back-up man and substitute. Mei served as Winry's birthing coach alongside Pinako.

After hours of labor, Winry's pain finally ceased momentarily at the sound of a crying baby, followed shortly by the sound of another crying baby. Winry let her head drop back onto her pillow as Pinako got quick to work with showing Ed how to bathe the two - just like Winry had wanted.

"They've got your eyes," Ed commented while Winry was breastfeeding the boys. One on each breast, though only one of them had their eyes open, which matched Winry's.

"But your hair," Winry said. The two had tufts of golden blonde hair.

"So which one's which?" Edward asked.

"Mei made some bracelets that we put on their ankles," Winry said. "Ethan got the red one and Anthony got the blue one."

"Can you believe we're parents now?" Ed asked.

Winry smiled. "Well, that's what we are now."
