Note: And we finally reached the end of TSFMS... This has been a long ride, this fic is probably one of the biggest proofs of my improvement as a writer, and it feels really weird to complete it because it feels like an era ending. When I started it, the MxM fandom was flourishing, now it's a lot less active, and it's normal the more we move away from 2007 and the initial release of Death Note. But even if I am, one day the last writer in this fandom, I'll still write, I don't care, I love them too much.
Thank you to everyone that read this fic, re-read it, reviewed, favourited, cried with me, laughed with me, your support meant a lot and still does, because thanks to you, I made of my hobby a real job, my dream job.
Goodbye and a happy life to our boys in this particular setting, and onto new adventures in my other fics!
Coming next: I will go back to Mello Of Love and complete it as well, I will try to complete other shorter fics and co-writings, and then I will be back to my other monster fic Lithium, for which I still have at least 50 chapters planned.
I also started to write in the Seraph of the end fandom and have an ongoing fic started there called Dream Scented Soldiers and a oneshot called Lullaby.
It's still hard to believe it's the end of this fic, but here is the epilogue of Too Sexy For My Shirt...
Short, but there was nothing more I could add.
Matt
My cheeks were hurting from smiling so much since I opened my eyes this morning, but the smile I had on my face right now just went bigger when I saw him arrive by the door of the small City Hall room. My soon-to-be husband. My heart swelled from the happiness that it would soon be an official thing between Mihael and me.
I had imagined that things would go very differently from the moment we began to organise our wedding, I had imagined a frenzy, forgetting a lot of things, being anxious, running errands all over town... but no. Nothing like that.
We had set a date, got it confirmed, filled a few papers, bought the rings, found best men and that was it. No fuss, just our regular lives until the big day today, Mihael working with my father, and studying at home, me working at the chocolate store, resting or going out on week ends, sex... the good life.
It was a really small wedding, because we didn't have a wide family, and to be honest, we didn't even have that many friends to invite.
But damn, the ones we had, they were surely filling the space!
Oksana and Olga, in colourful dresses, bright make up and complicated hairdos, were clapping and cheering, Miss Double D's seemed to make a contest with the sisters for the most communicative laughter, and my parents in the middle of this were looking as happy as me, although they were a lot more silent.
My father was in a suit, which was a rare thing for him, and my mother... she was wearing the dress that we had bought in Berlin, she looked stunning, and as she had walked me down the aisle, I was so proud.
All these people had had a positive influence on our lives at some point, all of them counted. It was not about pleasing people, caring for sitting plans and making sure everyone got along with their table neighbour, sugar almonds and stupid wedding traditions: it was ours, and as crazy as the room looked right now, it was perfect.
Mihael was approaching, holding his father's arm. I think this had been the most complicated of the things we had to do for today: get Mr Keehl to leave the prison for an hour and attend his son's wedding. He was wearing a tracker, and there was a line of cops right at the door, but he was there and Mihael was happy about that. Things weren't perfect between them, but they had talked things over each time Mihael was allowed to visit him, and at least, he had now something akin to a family of his own, even if things would always be complicated, since Mr Keehl would probably stay in prison forever.
Fuck, Mihael was gorgeous.
We weren't wearing suits, because when we had tried some, it really felt awkward. So Mihael was in his usual leather, his hair tied in a ponytail, his scar completely unhidden, and I was in jeans (brand new ones though, I had the decency not to wear my old shabby ones), and I had traded my usual stripped shirt for a white buttoned up one, and my feet were laced in my black Converses, because they meant a lot to me.
Perfect.
There would be a Russian lunch after the ceremony, it was Olga and Oksana's present to us, they had provided everything, and even the place, since we would all go to the chocolate store afterwards, and then we would leave for London for our honeymoon. Miss Double D's had family there that owned a bed and breakfast, and had arranged for us to stay a week for free, and Mihael and me had saved for the plane, my parents giving us a bit of money to spend there.
"I do." Mihael's voice resounded, a few seconds after I had pronounced the exact same words, and my heart and mind exploded. We were married. It was real. We were the Jeevas-Keehl, and having my name next to his on the intercom of our building now took a whole new meaning, one that I was so fucking proud of.
The madness that ensued our kiss... It was priceless. I think I swallowed a bit of confettis, the sisters and the nurse were loud and bubbly and the cops were staring in horror at the procession that slowly left the city hall, before they encircled Mr Keehl again. He couldn't join us for the rest of the celebration, but it was already a miracle that he could attend the civil union so Mihael was satisfied nonetheless.
He approached us though, before leaving, to congratulate us more personally.
"Mihael, I'm a proud father today, and Mail... I am expecting my sentence with peace because I know that my son has found someone that will make him happy."
It really touched me, because I knew he was sincere. His actions had proven that he had never stopped caring for Mihael - and although he had done some pretty bad choices - just like Mihael, I wanted to leave the past behind.
"I'm sorry that I have nothing to offer the both of you, though."
Mr Keehl had lost everything, but it didn't matter.
"It's okay," I said, "You took the burden of killing someone on your shoulders just to save him, we don't need another present, you offered us a future together and that's something I'll always be grateful for."
Mr Keehl's eyes got wet, and he hugged the both of us before leaving.
I had discovered with all the shit we went through that it wasn't easy to kill someone just because you hated them, and even to protect someone. Taking someone's life will eat a part of you, and no matter how much of an evil person Ourakova had been, I wasn't sure I would have had the guts to shoot her, if the situation required it. But he had, and with that gesture, he had made all of this happiness possible, he had saved me from a life without the one I loved, but he also had to live with the fact that he was a killer, and I knew it weighted a lot on his conscience, from what Mihael had told me.
Mello
I waved my father goodbye as he got into the police car, feeling so much relief from our relationship now building on solid ground.
I turned to Mail, kissed him, took his hand, and we walked out of the City Hall as newly weds, and it was perfect.
