Chapter 300

.

Eve and Jamal set their wedding day for Febuary 23rd, this coming Saturday. Because they were of different faiths, they sked rabbi to officiate. It was becoming custom for people of different religion to have a neutral clergy perform the ceremony. In the days leading up to their wedding they arrested more people for non-violent sexual crimes. Eve was uneasy about this, but a lot of people in the sector liked it. Febuary 21st marked only 150 days until impact. Preachers like Walker and Barnes preached that ELE was God's punishment for humanity's wickedness. They hoped that returning to the strict ways of old monotheism would spare their communities from God's wrath. When asked about Walker Barnes admitted that Walker was his brother in Christ, but he was a fool when it came to politics. The sector wasn't alone in their opinions. Monotheistic mobs had destroyed buddhist temples in Japan, hindu temples in India. In Russia they destroyed the body of communist revolutionary and Soviet founder Vladimar Lenin. Lenin was once considered the father of modern atheism, or at least the father of radically persecuting all believers. His body had been on display, revered for over a century, until recently when it was desecrated and disgraced. In Osaze the government destroyed the ancient pyramids and pagan art. In this instance the motive wasn't entirely monotheistic rage. The ancient pharohs were buried with large amounts of honey. When certain tombs were opened in the 1920's they did tests on the honey. It was discovered that this honey didn't spoil after thouands of years. In theory they could've eaten it and it would've been as good as anything they bought at the store. The Osazian government was opening up the pyramids and taking the honey. The plan was to distribute the honey to the people, make sure fewer people starved to death. Eve figured that they must be pretty desperate to break open ancient sacred tombs and eat food that was thousands of years old. It seemed people really were that desperate.

Jamal and Eve had off for their wedding day, but no other days. The police department had no objections to a married couple being partnered together, just gave them more reason to protect each other from danger. It was a very simple ceremony performed at city hall. All wedding ceremonies these days had to be performed by clergy, a local rabbi agreed to this. In front of God and witnesses, one witness was holding little Hope. Jamal promised to be the best husband and father he could be. Eve promised to be the best wife and mother she could be. They hadn't actually talked about the possibility of having more children. With 148 days until impact, that didn't even seem possible. Even if she got pregnant, impact would occur before the baby was born. Some hoped God would protect them, but Eve had serious doubts about this. But these were the official civil vows in the ceremony in the Brooklyn sector today. When the ceremony was complete, Eve kissed Jamal. They were now officially husband and wife.
