It's been a while since we opened, and Tamaki finally explained why the host club was hot and filled with jungle plants/animals. Something about the people not having to chill in the cool mid-spring season, something along that line I guess. I wasn't paying attention much. I was trying to figure out how to untangle myself from Romeo. Kim made an excuse to leave and went to the nurse's office...with the snake. As I myself ran out of time and had to start serving tea, so I was forced to walk around with a giant anaconda on my shoulders. -_- Not highly recommended for any type of public service—especially when it involves serving high school girls. After a while, they got used to it thinking it was part of my outfit. Of course the constant whispers of me having one around me was the talk of the day, I ignored it and kept on serving them.
The day consisted of dodging a flying toucan, feeding a very hungry snake, and serving heaps of tea. Other than that, the host club wasn't too eventful. Until lunch…
"Kasumi," I looked up to see Takashi walking toward me.
"Hey, Takashi, what's up?" I was a little surprised—that's practically the first time he's ever talked to me. Or even said my name…made me a bit pleased for some oddball reason.
"Kanako is asking for you," he said.
"Oh—you know why?" He shrugged. I stood up and stretched thinking to myself that she just wanted to chat or something. "Got it—thanks." We separated, but before I got to find Kanako, whom I found to be a regular here at the club, I felt two pairs of hands pull me back into the trees. Romeo hissed hatefully.
"Woah!" hissed Hikaru. "Keep that snake on a leash!"
"What was that for?" I asked angrily. Back was seething with pain from the pull they just did and I couldn't help but grind my teeth. They don't know it's bad, I have to endure not punching through the floor with their faces.
"Okay, before you get mad at us, please hear us out!" cried Kaoru. I rolled my eyes, but kept quiet.
"This is just a warning, okay? Kanako has been...Host-Hopping." As if a dreadful disease, they made grim expressions on their faces and feared the word they spoke.
"Host-Hopping?" I cocked an eyebrow.
"Yeah," solemnly agreed Hikaru. "She's been changing her favorite host for a really long time now. Last week, she was all over the Boss—but yesterday, she switched to Haruhi! And now she's asking for you!"
"So...you're telling me this...why?"
"Because we want you to find out what's going on with her! Host-Hopping is NOT NORMAL!"
And neither is a host club, but you don't see me saying to others it's a disease. "Okay, okay," I said, gritting my teeth. "Relax. And don't randomly pull me into a bunch of trees ever again—Romeo's not very happy with you two." As if he knew what we were saying, he extended his neck over my shoulder and hissed straight in Kaoru's face. Hikaru and Kaoru backed up veeeerrrrry slowly, scrambling to get away. I huffed out a satisfied breath and started to walk to Kanako, again.
"Oh, wow!" was the first thing she said. "That snake is so charming on you!"
I quickly recovered my blank expression. "You're the first girl to say that, Kanako-san."
She shook her head, smiling. "Call me Kanako-chan!"
"Okay, Kanako-chan!" I said cheerily. Though the words left a bitter taste in my mouth, I wished for some mouth wash. "Here, you wanna pet him?" I nudged Romeo's head with my shoulder. Kanako was scared at first, but she began to relax as Romeo hissed very nicely and rubbed his head against her soft hand. Kanako giggled, petting him even more. "His name's Romeo," I said. She grinned at me, but suddenly turned sober. Her gaze went downward and her fingers curled back into their hands. "Hey," I said gently, looking at her in concern, "you alright?" She had her eyes diverted, and that's when I noticed two blotches of orange hair and one blotch of yellow hair hiding in a bush. With my foot, I tapped her leg and caught her attention. I winked and made a 'shhh' noise, glancing at our little eavesdroppers just to hint that she shouldn't look behind her. Kanako got my hint and nodded, smiling curiously. I lowered my arm a little bit. Silently, Romeo slipped off and onto the floor. Somehow, he knew exactly what to do. Without a sound, the anaconda slithered across the floor and into the trees.
Smiling, I counted down. "Three...two...one..." pointing with my finger and waiting, I heard Romeo hiss.
"AHHHH!" Hikaru, Kaoru, and Tamaki leaped out from the bushes and ran away—terrified. I laughed as Romeo slithered out from the foliage and back to me. Kanako was giggling like crazy. Romeo re-wrapped himself around me, and I watched as Kanako's hands had a strong grip around her teacup.
If I had to describe it, I thought, I'd say she was holding it...lovingly. "Do you collect them?" I asked, still watching her hands.
Immediately, she started laughing nervously and pulled her hands back quickly. Flaunting her arms around, she exclaimed, "Oh! No! O-O-O-Of course not! What makes you think that?!"
Suddenly, the front door opened.
"Good afternoon!" said the boy who walked in. He was carrying a box very gently and was speaking to Kyoya—who had his notebook. "I've brought the teacups you've ordered." The boy with the teacups left the box with Kyoya and exited the room. I had my eyes on both the boy and Kanako. She was very tense and awkward the whole time he was here.
"Kanako-chan," I said, Haruhi walking over to us too.
"Are you very close to that person just now?" Haruhi asked, finishing my question.
Kanako jumped. "W-W-W-What?! W-We're not close or anything! Wh-What are you talking about, Haruhi-kun?!" Both Haruhi and I exchanged looks and stared at her. "Th-thank you for having me today!" Kanako was bumbling and stumbling the entire trip to the door.
"Haru-chan!" Came a voice. Honey was suddenly on Haruhi's back. "Did you know?! Suzushima-kun is Kasuga-chan's fiancée!"
"Eh?" Haruhi said.
"Really?" I said—though not very surprisingly, it was interesting enough to listen. Honey nodded vigorously. I cocked an eyebrow. "Lemme guess—you knew all about this, didn't you Kyoya?"
"Of course," he replied, snapping his notebook open. "They were childhood friends, and their parents decided the engagement. This information does not pose any use to me, so I just ignored it."
Tamaki had a 'oh jeez...' look on his face. Kyoya just kept talking while I grabbed an apple from a nearby tree.
"Suzushima Tohru. Grades are impressive. Family prestige is so-so. Looks are average. His strong point is his serious personality. If you had to pick a bad aspect..."
The twins chimed in. "He doesn't leave a strong impression," said one flatly.
"He's weak."
"He's boring," I added, taking a bite of the apple.
Kyoya snapped his notebook closed. "End of report."
I almost laughed at Haruhi's face. I bet she was thinking "he has no mercy on the guys".
"Tohru-kun is a nice person," said Honey, sitting atop Takashi's shoulders, "right?"
"Yeah," responded Takashi.
"Well then," said Tamaki. He stepped boldly out.
"Well then what?" I asked with a mouth full of apple. I got a real painful reply.
"Our Ouran Host Club exists to bring fortune to the ladies!" I sighed, but the rest of the club -minus Haruhi- applauded.
"And how are you going to do that?" Haruhi asked.
"The Ouran Host Club Dance Party!"
