Chapter 323
.
Jamal woke Nadia and Eve up around 3am. The plan required an attack just after sunrise. The guards would be closer to the end of their shift, more tired, less alert. The plan was for Nadia to try and sneak into the compound, rescue the slaves, try to steal Amanda's guns for the escape. Nadia volunteered because she knew the compund, Jamal and Eve didn't. By this point Jamal and Eve would be stationed in nearby abandoned apartment buildings, in case Nadia was caught. Should trouble arise, they should kill Amanda first. One advantage they had was her goons had no cause they were willing to die for. Chances were, with their boss dead, and believing they were under siege with greater numbers than they actually were, they would surrender. Eve hoped so, they had limited bullets. It seemed hard to believe that Eve had said goodbye to her daughter barely two days ago, but it was still only April 4th. A whole 107 days until impact.
Jamal and Eve seperated, took up positions in two different apartment buildings. From her viewpoint Eve could see Amanda's compound. She saw several armed guards, even Rocky. Nadia said the slaves were kept elsewhere. Eve couldn't see Amanda, doubted she'd have much trouble shooting her. Maybe Barnes shouldn't have let her live, they should've killed her instead of banishing here from Brooklyn. If nothing else, Amanda was a survivor, would always be hurting innocent people for her own selfish gain. Eve was nervous, with radio silence she had no idea if Jamal or Nadia were in their designated spots. She prayed that they were okay, and that they'd all be together again soon. Eve hoped she could still bring her husband and best friend to Christ, but that required them all surviving this. Waiting was making Eve nervous. The longer this lasted, the more likely Amanda's thugs would fing her, and shoot her on the spot. Amanda was certainly angry yesterday, and Eve's group no longer had the protection of the flea-market. Then Eve saw some movement. Rocky and the other guards got ready for trouble. Nadia was brought out, she'd been caught. Amanda came out too. Eve wanted to shoot Amanda immediately. Not just to protect Nadia, but for all the innocent people Amanda had hurt. But Eve also feared missing, killing Nadia by mistake. And what if Jenkins was right, and Eve hurt Nadia while she was still un-saved. But Amanda seemed ready to murder Nadia. Eve cared far less about sending Amanda to Hell. She had to take the chance, or Nadia would be killed either way. Eve pulled the trigger, shot Amanda in the head. She seemed to have died instantly, her brains were now splatterred on the ground. Amanda's goons looked around, weapons at the ready. One held Nadia, using her as a human shield. Eve feared hurting her friend, she couldn't pull the trigger again. But one of the other goons then went down, that must've been Jamal. Nadia was saying something to her abductor. Eve couldn't hear the words, but seemed to get the gyst of it. This goon let Nadia go. She then raised her hand, telling Jamal and Eve to stad down. The thugs surrendered, and released the twenty or so slaves. Eve rejoiced, her side had won.
From her vantage point Eve saw the slaves armed and the tables turned upon their captors. Some clearly wanted vengeance, but Nadia urged calm. They were eventually released. Nadia gave Eve the signal to come down. Whe she did, Nadia and Eve hugged, they'd won. Jamal hadn't come down yet, most likely he was making absolutely sure they were safe before giving up his protective position. Eve went up to Jamal's place to tell him the good news herself. In this building Eve called for Jamal, one thing Amy had taught her, and the collective army reinforced, was not to suddenly sneak up on someone with a rifle. But Jamal didn't answer. When Eve finally found him, he was bleeding. Eve immediately rushed towards him. But it was too late. Maybe one of Amanda's goons did this in revenge, maybe some desperate looter. Whoever specifically did this, it didn't matter, Jamal was dead.
